Just wanted to share with you all - I was at the Today Show this morning with some friends and we were right up front for STING!!!!!!
Judy - I got a great photo of Dominic for you!!!! He came over and I asked if I could get a picture of him - and he said SURE! I also got a great shot of Trudie posing for me!!!!!
Sting was amazing as usual!!! The sound was incredible. I also got a great shot of Chris Botti - and his CD by the way is great.
We arrived at Rockafeller Center at 3am! After waiting three hours, the band came out and did a sound check - it was a mini concert. There weren't many people there yet....They did Desert Rose a few times, Englishman in NY, If I Ever Lose My Faith, Brand New Day, and at the moment I can't remember what else - My mind is shot after only about 5 hours sleep total now.
The actual broadcast was at 8:30 and he did about six more songs...another mini concert.
The trip in at the early hour was WELL WORTH IT!!! Tomorrow night I will see him in Camden NJ and then again on Tuesday in Homdel, NJ.
I just got my photos back a few hours ago and I will have to figure out a way to post them for everyone to see.
Judy - I will send you the one of Dom!!!
Have a great weekend...
I'm back from the Today Show. I'm way too tired to actually write a review (I'm seeing pandas throwing biscuits at me - that's how tired and delusional I am...) Quickly, Sting was in good spirits, played Desert Rose, Englishman, Brand New Day, Fields of Bore + encore: Faith, Every Breath. Thanks to Miles, the derbouka player was temporarily replaced by a wee little Arabic Leprechaun. The guy looked like he just came from a bar mitzvah... Very out of place. Mini Cheb, we miss you!
We got to talk to Danny, who denied the use of the magic button during Tomorrow We'll See. ("There are no enhancements on the lead vocals. It's all him.") He did say that he tweaks the background vocals though, and he's actually the one who starts the programmed loops, not Kipper. Chris talked to us for a bit and was extremely nice. He remembered us from last week and even managed to remember our names...
The main reason for this email is actually Camden tickets. Five of us are going to Camden tomorrow. We have one extra ticket. If anyone would like to come with us, please let me know ASAP. Some of us will be leaving from Jersey, some of us will be leaving from New York. You can even ride with us if you wish. Hope you can join us...
Hey all! Just got back from the Today Show and had to say it was great! It was nice to meet some people from the list. Hope everyone enjoyed the show! Got to meet everyone in the band except Sting (as usual) I have some pics that I can e-mail to anyone who wants them. Just e-mail me and I will send them to you! Later...
Here is my spin on the today show! We got there around 5:30 am and there was a lot of people there. So I started walking around trying to scope out a spot to see Sting. I was walking by the studio entrance when this large arm got thrown up in front of me. Low and behold it was a security officer and Sting was no more than two feet in front of me. I was so dumbfounded I just kinda murmered and stuttered. My friend thought that I was having a seizure! He looked really sleepy poor guy.
We scoped out a spot, right up against the rail across from the platform where Katie and Ann were standing. Did anybody else notice how beautiful Ann Curry is in person??? The thing that sucked was that we were behind the boom camera so we never made in onto T.V. But I did get to dance with the Today show egg because he was standing next to me the whole damn concert. I met Florence Henderson, She is really nice. Typical me, no Sting just Mrs Brady.... I really regret not meeting anybody from the list, maybe next time! I thought the show was great, but I was really surprised he didn't sing After the Rain has fallen considering that is the next single off the album.
I am looking forward to Camden tonight!!
P.S. Miles was there for the concert he was standing behind me near the doors just kinda hanging out. I took a pic of him.
After an exhausting two days, I'm finally caught up on some much needed sleep.
Like Fred and Steve said, we arrived at the Today Show mucho early, only to encounter Jim J. Bullock/Ned Flanders and his merry group of missionaries. Fred and I (yes, Fred too has mustgetfrontrowitis!)were having a wee mini-breakdown of sorts, but somehow knew we would get our spot. We encountered Cherl, whom we haven't seen since the Beacon shows, which was cool, and pretty much hung around for 10+ hours. Dawn and Steph joined us early on. (Great to see you guys!)
The soundcheck was pretty relaxed and informal, but of course there were numerous cacaphonous screams when his royal Stingness emerged from the studio. I, for one, was pleased when Chris came out and gave me a huge smile and wave. We were directly next to the stage, right in front of Chris (which was the best spot, I think, for us non-VIPS). We had an unadulterated view of the entire band, and even though that Fabio-looking-photographer was there, this time he did not obstruct our view.
The show was great, but our little section let out some audible groans when the first grating sounds of Fields of Gold began. (sorry, but that song has GOT TO GO!...it's pretty, but enough!)
During the commercials, Katie and Anne were discussing the fact that "Sting weighs about 105 pounds...he's so slender!"
Trudie, Anne and Al (go AL!) were grooving to the music, but like Steve said, Katie just stood there. Weird, given the fact that she said she loves the album.
And, during EBYT, the camera was on Fred, Steve and I for a good chunk of time, but unfortunately they didn't even air the song. We did get on several times, though.
All in all, I'd say it was a good day, indeed!
I got home yesterday from a whirlwind tour, starting with the Today show, including the Camden and Bristow shows. As I write this, I should be packing for the Hartford show. Almost too much fun!
I finally met my intenet friend Margie (who I had corresponded with through the newsgroup) on Thursday night. She and I and her mother got to Rockefeller Center at what we thought would be the perfect time to get a great position to see Sting up close: 4:40 AM. However, we ended up in the second row behind the barricades, which was not bad for the sound check at 6am. But once the VIP's showed up for the show at 8:30AM, we really couldn't see much at all, except for on the television monitors!
Sting seemed to be in a good mood, although he looked a little tired, like he'd just gotten out of bed (complete with "bedhead" hair!). He made a few jokes about playing the set backward (he made the sound effect of a tape being played backward), and about his carrot juice ("try Sting's new carrot juice"). Trudy was there, as were the entire band, and also Cheb Mami. His new back-up singer was there - his name sounded like Russ Elway or Irving. The set list was as printed in other reports; however, he also sang Every Breath You Take when the show was over. He looked and sounded great, and seemd to enjoy himself. We met some great fans standing there all that time - particularly Joe and Jessica, who videotaped the entire event. And we were interviewed by a woman who worked for Compaq.com, who said our remarks would be played on the website. It took me awhile to recognize Florence Henderson (Mrs. Brady), who came out to do the show after Today - she looked alnmost as young as her 30 year old co-stars, and was very friendly with the crowd.
Next time we'll have to bring our pillows and blankets, like the group from the Catholic school did. It would be worth it!
