Went to the MA show last nite and lucked out with 3rd row center seats!! At the end of the show I went right up to the stage while he sang Fragile and was able to get some close pics!! The guards at the Tweeter Center are very lenient! At the end of the show the band members came and shook hands with people standing at the stage. I'm short, so my hand wasn't as easy to reach as most, and Sting missed mine and I was horrified for a split second, but then he backed up a step and shook my hand, and I yelled,"Thank-you!" but I don't think he heard me. I also shook Chris Botti's hand and told him great show, and he said thank-you and smiled. What a hansome guy he is!! He seemed genuinely pleased someone wanted to shake his hand...I think I was the only one on my side of the stage to put my hand up when he came by. Shook Jason Rebello's hand and said the same thing and he said thank-you, too. Not a lot of people were holding their hands up when the band members came by, so they could take their time and shake my hand and hear what I was saying. BTW, how old is Jason Rebello? Up close the guy looks about 20, a mere babe in the woods, but so talented! My favorite, besides Sting, of course, was Manu, when he shook my hand he held on to it, really giving it a good shake, smiled, when I said great show and said thanks and winked and gave me the thumbs up sign. He seemed very nice, very sincere and very happy-go-lucky. Missed Dominic altogether, unfortunately.
Sitting that close was a real treat...you can see little things go on between the band members. Right during one of the songs, Dominic called some guy in the front row to come near the stage, and flipped him his pick!
This show was good, but not as good as the CT show...not nearly as much energy from the audience, which I think in turn doesn't help the band. The people in the first 3 rows (with the exception of a few clusters here and there) were more into getting up and getting beer than watching the show. It was most annoying! 2 guys in front of me kept talking thru the show. A lot of people were just standing there, with deadpan looks on their faces! Even when Sting or band members wanted the audience to clap, the people in the first 3 rows hardly did!! I couldn't believe it. No one was singing along, let alone moving their bodies, ie, swaying, arm moving, or God forbid, dancing, only for the Police songs. I think most of these people were there more to party than to enjoy a Sting show. People right next to me left 3 times to go get beer during the show!! Now, I can't speak for the rest of the arena, as I didn't turn around much, but in general, I think there could have been more audience response.
One last thing, I met Donny Fitzsimmons, the drum roadie, outside the ticket booth before the show. I recognized him from a concert I have on tape from Sting in Vietnam. So, I went up to him and asked him if he knew anything about released seats for the performance, which he didn't. So, we talked a bit. After the show, when they were breaking down the set, I called him over and he remembered me, and I asked him if I could have something from the show. He said what do you want, I said, how about the setlist off Sting's stand or a towel or something? He said which one do you want? Since I already have a setlist, I said the towel. But Sting's little table was already taken off the stage by then, but he handed me another towel. I said, no, this wasn't Sting's, his was green. He said, I'm sorry, that's the best I can do, this is the one Chris, the trumpet player used. So, I said thank-you and took it. It's a memento, albeit, I'd rather have had Sting's towel, as he had used it a few times to wipe his face that nite! My hubby says I'm a sick person to want his towel! I guess I am!
Well, sorry to have run on that long, but it was great to have been up that close to the man!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
I had a GREAT time at the show on Friday. Met Linda and her husband again. She was so lucky to get a 3rd row seat. I have to say though I was not dissapointed with my seats even though they were in the second tier from the stage. (There were no scalpers selling front seats, I was planning on trading up but they only had lawn. One guy told me they were all gone, Sting is hot again! his own words) I had a clear shot of the entire stage. With my binoculars it seemed that Sting was only a few yards away. He looked great, I mean REALLY great. I say this for the umpteenth time, Sting looks soooo much better in person than he does on TV or in some of his photos. The woman sitting next to me borrowed my binocs, said he was gorgeous and then proceeded telling me how when she was a teen, her parents moved to England for four years. She went to school with a girl who lived on the same street as Stewart. She said they would constantly walk by his house and hang around. Then one day they saw Sting come by to rehearse, they only got a chance to say "hi" to him but still it was a thrill for her.
About Friday's performance, Sting's voice was exceptionally great, he held that very long note on Tomorrow We'll See. I missed Scream but my husband missed them more, so he didn't borrow my binocs much, lol. MOBS, imo, was even better than his November show. Sting talked a bit about the chess game but other than that, he didn't talk much, not nearly as much as he did in November. Dominic wore the 'lips' pants again. My husband was trying to see whose mouth was on his ass, but Dominic wouldn't oblige.
This venue was packed, Sting really drew a huge crowd that night. It's going to be a long time before I get to see him again, (sigh).
I know this is slightly late, but I haven't been near a computer in days so....
The Mansfield concert was full of energy, and to my pleasant surprise, most of the crowd stood for pretty much the entire show. I was expecting another PNC-type audience, what with all the VIP passes for Compaq people I saw, but the front rows set the mood for the rest of the crowd to stand. I loved it! I was sitting next to Fred, waiting for someone who had the actual ticket for my seat to banish me to my real seat all the way on the side. After playing musical chairs for a wee bit (Aerosmith's drummer and his chick somewhat rudely informed me that I was in their seat), I settled in. I mistakenly held the notion that I was safe there, considering Sting was singing Tomorrow We'll See at that point, but some couple came and told me to scram, so I hopped back a row and luckily found a spot (behind the Aerosmith dude). He and his gal pal where not enjoying themselves, or at least appeared that way. They left after Desert Rose. (Fred and I believe his jealousy over Sting's talent and ability overwhelmed him).
The entire show was great, Sting was in a very playful mood, and the standouts were Bourbon Street and BOTN/WTW....Jason really rocked out on his solo. But Cheb's absence on Desert Rose really brings the song down a notch, in my opinion. It's just not the same song without him. On Englishman, Sting kept up with the "Be yourself, no matter what they say" for longer than usual, I think because of the audience reception.
It was one of the better shows I've been to in the States. It definately was the best crowd so far. (Well, aside from some highly intoxicated women behind us, and some rather horny people to my left.)
