Target Center - Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, United States

by Angel C Little on July 18, 2000

Opening Act: Tracy Chapman

Start - 7:30 PM CST

MAN IS SHE B-O-R-I-N-G! Okay the first few songs were halfway intereSting but then every song sounded the SAME over and over. I kepted remarking to my mother who I took with me to the show when she was finally going to be done. Well one hour after she took stage she was finally done, which puts it around 8:30ish.

Then about 30 minutes later... The Man took the stage. The crowd here was very good, very upbeat and most of the show stood up and dance - something that very few Sting shows I've heard lack. Only one noticeable screw up during the show was right after the first rap part during Perfect Love everyone seemed to lose track of what was going on, even Sting seemed lost for a moment.

One thing I really noticed at the show is how damn active the front row people folks were - I didn't notice any Compaq suits, that is for sure. Maybe cuz Compaq doesn't have many operations in Minnesota.

The Setlist (to the best of my memory - if anyone can correct me who was there please do so hint hint James)

  1. A Thousand Years
  2. If You Love Somebody
  3. After The Rain Has Fallen
  4. We'll Be Together
  5. Perfect Love Gone Wrong
  6. All This Time
  7. Seven Days
  8. Fill Her Up
  9. Fields Of Gold
  10. Tommorow We'll See
  11. Every Litte Thing She Does Is Magic
  12. Brand New Day
  13. Desert Rose
  14. Roxanne
  15. Bring On The Night/When The World

Encore 1:

  1. If I Ever Lose Faith In You
  2. Every Breath You Take

Encore 2:

  1. Message In A Bottle
  2. Fragile

Excellent show overall, really had a good time. If anyone who was near Section 110 during Roxanne heard someone screaming along with Sting loudly during the Roxanneoh part - that was ME you heard!

Oh and I bought the following things too!

I'm already looking forward to his next show here... whenever that might be. I'll post more stuff tommorow after work.

Well, my brief tour with the band has sadly come to an end. Last night was Minneapolis, me and Angel's hometown. Here's the lowdown.

Crowd:

It was really interesting coming off of seeing 4 outdoor shows and how the crowd was in all the different cities compared to mine. The Minneapolis people were by far less stoned/drunk per capita than the others. Desert Rose got a HUGE ovation, probably because we have 2 sh!tty stations here that play it 24-7. NO Compaq exec's in sight; all the middle front rows were taken up by contest winners and people in the music biz.

Music:

Wow. How do I put this into words... The band tonight was playing on a different plateau. Not that it was 'good' per se; Angel already explained about how Sting forgot some lyrics. In fact, he forgot almost the entire verse!! Really funny. He was just kind of humming along making up some melodies with a big smile on his face. Since I was about 20 feet away from him, I tried to sing the lyrics to him but I don't think he heard me. We DID do this in Europe though when he forgot, and it was really funny. At the beginning of the show, Danny forgot to bring Sting's bass out, Sting saying, "I need my bass, Danny." Chris forgot to pick up the tambourine on Fill 'er Up for the first verse, and looked really ashamed because of it.

So the vibe was really laid back compared to the other shows. It almost felt like a rehearsal. Sting was the most playful I'd ever seen him, not even sticking to the script of saying "Hello [insert city]" when he usually does or saying any of the other regular things. Chris and I kind of know each other by now, and since I was on his side we would have little conversations when he wasn't playing. I kind of made the motion like "What's up tonight?" he just laughed and made a drinking (alcohol) motion. Whenever Dominic sees me in my Police shirt he breaks out laughing too! Sting thinks I'm a big dork...which is probably pretty accurate.

Lastly, I talked to the main sound guy again and Kipper's keyboard guy, and they said that it's 100% certain the Central Park thing is happening on Sept. 12. I said it was wierd to have it on a Tuesday, but I guess that's the next 'day' that they would have open, as he's playing that previous weekend and always has off Monday's. They're all looking forward to it and were confident that it will happen.

Sting and the band are walking off stage every night and into the van to go back to the airport. He's in Chicago by midnight.

I wish everyone well who continues the tour...I've had a great Seven Days.

See you in NY!
