My mind is still in a jumble so if this comes out in a jumble please excuse me. I'm still dazed from last night. Here goes:
Lyle Lovett opened but I didn't get to pay much attention to him beacause I was trying to find the fan who bought my spare ticket. By the time we got to our seats there was only a couple songs left. I don't care much for Lyle so I don't think I'm qualified to give a critque of what I heard of his performance.
Sting came out about 9:30 and me and the rest of the crowd went bezerk, as though that's who we were there to see(HA! HA!). The setlist was the same as far as I could tell (I took a copy with me but forgot to refer to it during the show. I wonder why) except I don't remember hearing 'Mad About You' and I really wanted to hear that one. (I may have spaced it on that one because my camera gave me a hard time). 'Fragile' was awesome. The dancing horn section had me chuckling off and on all during the show. And I really missed Dolette(sp?) and company backing vocals.
Sting was in prime form: voice was great, he interacted with the crowd and band quite a bit, he was EXTREMELY animated and was as gorgeous as ever---even with the goatee. When he did ISHICSC he didn't get a guy from the crowd, he had Lyle come out and sing with him, which I thought was fitting. I was surprised how good they sounded together and how much they seemed to enjoyed singing together. What a contrast--those two side by side. Lyle is not good looking at all IMO, and I think Sting is absolutely gorgeous. (I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of that because of the camera messing up on me.) I saw Sting in '88 and this show was much more 'lively' than that one. He left the stage right about 11:00 so it was about an hour and a half.
Never fear, I did get 7 pictures, of which 3 are really good. One of those 3 is absolutely wonderful, if I do say so myself. I can't wait to get it enlarged.
I took a banner with me that I held over my head at appropriate times which I know Sting saw because he looked straight at me and once pointed at me and mouthed 'I see it', once waved and cocked his head sideways, and once gave me a look like he was saying 'Sorry'. The banner said 'Please may I have a hug'-------hey,you never know what's going to work until you try. At least, I know he saw me.
I'm extremely please I took the long round trip to see him---it was definatley worth it. And besides that I made a new friend from this list: Thank you, Carolyn, for being such good company during the show.
