Just back in from Austin, and thought I would do a recap of the last couple of days. This really is a tale of two cities and two shows, one limp, one fully erect. Deb and I hadn't really planned on going to this one at all until some 3rd row tickets appeared in our hands at 1 in the afternoon on the day of the show. After a 300 mile drive across Texas, we found ourselves in the 104 degree sauna that was Dallas.
Austin, Texas July 26th 2000
Went to the venue around 6.30 today, just to see how our newly aquired path of darkness Compaq VIP passes would help us on this fine night. Well after many months of pathetic, wimpy and self defeating poor me behavior, we decided to re read Celestine prophecy and decided.... If you can't beat em... join em..... Deb and I did some major flirting...sucking up..... soul selling things to aquire some compaq passes from a few drunken folks walking out of the meet and greet in Dallas.... yes we did do that !!
Well, oddly enough the passes enable you go more or less anywhere you want.
The seat we had for tonight were less than wonderful (crap !!) and therefore the show ....in the immortal words or Eric Cartman "Sucked Ass".
It really makes all the difference in the world where you sit, if you are in the front few rows then.. the show is only for you.... nobody else matters..... but just the same in reverse.. if you are not in the front three rows... then the show is for everyone except you.
A few funny point included the woman behind us saying three cheers for Compaq after discovering that she had pretty good seats for the night. Also met a girl named April who won the local radio contest for tickets etc, and she managed to get into the soundcheck and sang EBYT with the band.
For those of you who were in Nimes, the song that was played in the soundcheck that was slow and nice and (not All but Envy Fred !!!) was actually a song from the upcoming Disney stuff..
Setlist was the same as last night, didn't have the same enthuisiasm in the crowd...lots of sitting down etc.
All people that are completely fed up with the decisions that Miles has been making might want to look away now.
This isnt 100% yet, but according to Kipper tonight, the Universal Amphitheater DVD may only be around 10 songs.
He said that he wasn't totally sure on it, but he was pretty sure it was around 10 songs. He did however say that it looked fantastic, sounded even better and we would all love it. Had a nice chat with him about the next leg of the tour, the Malaysian dates scheduled for October have ben cancelled before they were even publically announced, but the tour will continue into November in Australia, and through Tunisia, India and others in March.
We've got 2nd row tix for Houston and Birmingham, so expect some enthusiastic reviews to come in the next few days....
Hi...just got back from concert. The crowd was kind of lame! They didn't know that they could sing along and Sting said that he has only ever been to one town before where they didn't sing along. I think they were a little put off by the lack of participation from the crowd. Lots of older people there but the floor was jammed with young people like me. I wish that they had played a different set! It is an exact set as Darien Lake in upstate NY on July 8th!!! if you have heard the Sting bootleg like I have from the Hollywood Bowl concert at the beginning of the tour, It is the same set song for song. The keyboard and saxophonist are phenomenal! I think Sting knows talent when he sees it! The band looks tired! I am glad I caught them a while back. Granted they put on a good show, but there were arguments going on with band members and stage crew DURING the concert. At one point, I saw the back up singer arguing with someone off stage during a song! I thought this was bad but I think they must be tired from the almost year and a half they have been on the road. Dominic Miller is as good as usual but he seemed to be a little distant. I am wondering if this is going to be one of his last tours with Sting. The opening act here was Jonny Lang. Glad I got the sweet seats though!!!!! Enjoy the upcoming dates!!!!! Looking forward to the next tour.
