AmSouth Amphitheater - Antioch, (Nashville), Tennessee, United States

by Sarah Gregory on August 31, 2000

Here's my review of the Nashville/Antioch concert at the AmSouth Amphitheater on August 30th, 2000.

It was a fantastic show! Johnny Lang opened up and did and excellent job of warming up the crowd. Johnny sounded great, and I could watch his facial expressions all day long. The sound guys were doing their job, and it showed through the whole concert. The sound was clear and vibrant the entire time. Sting was in A-1 form. He's even better in concert than on his cds. He played some of the best songs from his new cd (though he didn't play "Tomorrow We'll See" which I like and he did play "Fill Her Up" and " Perfect Love Gone Wrong" which I don't care for, but they did sound better here than on the cd and I liked his voice on "Perfect Love Gone Wrong" here) as well as several of old solo and Police songs. He gave off a very relaxed mood and even joked around with the audience and trumpet player. I was disappointed that the crowd didn't seem as enthused as I was, but still most of the crowd were nice (except for some Yuppies who called friends on their cell phones saying, "Guess where I am?"). This was my first concert with a major star, and it was a real treat. Sting sounded great! The guitar player looked like he was addicted to heroin, but he did give his pick to a fan. It was a real treat when Johnny Lang came out an performed one song with Sting *though I forget which song it was). I guess my favorite song that Sting played was "Message in a Bottle" in which he played alone ( as in no drums, keyboards, ect) the guitar and sang. I would have liked a little warnings as to when the show was over because he left the stage three times! As usual, from what I've read, he played "Fragile" as the encore. It was the sort of show that I'll remember forever. Admittedly I had great seats, partly thanks to Eric who traded my fourth row seat for his front row seat (ahhhhhhhh! it was great). Sting was very friendly at the end and shook several audience members hands (yes, I was one of them!). I don't think any other concert will ever top this one, and I would definitely see him again. The most disappointing thing was that Sting didn't look at the audience so much. It seemed like he was looking at the ceiling half the time, but maybe he was looking at the people on the grass. Also the Arabic guy wasn't there to sing "Desert Rose", but it was kind of funny to see Sting try to sing them. I didn't feel as if they used as much stage space, especially with Johnny Lang. Overall it was a great show, Johnny Lang was great and Sting pushed it over the top. I'd give it an 11 and would recommend seeing him if you ever have the chance, Great show!!!! 5 stars!!!!! Sting was in fine form and is a sharp dresser).

John Mellencamp was here in Nashville yesterday doing one of those concerts in the downtown area around lunchtime. Sting was also in town.

We had excellent seats for the Sting show and he performed better than the last time. I know for a fact his voice is better than I've ever heard it. He did two encores to close out the night. Most of the people around us seemed to be scared to stand and have fun. At one point I turned around to all the people and asked them if this was they're first time at a concert, which brought a few smirks and a few people stood up after that. Overall a wonderful time in Nashville last night!

I came out of the show in Nashville thinking it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen but I would have given anything to be at that show with fans like the two of you or any of the other fans on this list for that matter.

I was so irritated by the idiots all around us. Our seats were amazing. I was 10 feet away from the stage in the second row. It was awesome except for the dumb asses in the front row for goodness sake that wanted to sit the whole time. My husband and I didn't give a damn - we were up the whole time. This totally irritated me -- why don't they sell the best seats to the best fans. It is such a waste to see such a tremendous thing bought and paid for by people who couldn't care less about such an amazing person like Sting. Anyway - I'll quit griping.

I could have never prepared myself to see him. I was in tears when he came on stage. It was amazing. We were all nervous about our seats being crappy after paying $100 for each but we were about 10 seats from dead center in the 2nd row. He put on an amazing show, I don't think I've ever done anything that meant as much to me except get married. It was our big one year anniversary and it could have never been any more special. We'll have a hard time equaling this one.

I am totally 100% fascinated with Chris Botti now. He was the only thing that took my eyes off Sting. OMG - He is just amazing, gorgeous, mysterious, awesome. I will be buying his CD this weekend. I never knew how sexy and intriguing the trumpet could be.

Well - I feel like a new person after seeing Sting in person. You guys that get to go more than once in a lifetime are truly fortunate. Give a kiss for me too please!!! I did get to hold his hand for one second but a kiss would have been better. It was so awesome, all of it, and I'm glad that I can share it with all of you.

OH Yeah, I almost forgot. I've been trying to remember to tell all of you about an IMAX show I saw a couple of weeks ago. Hubby and I took his 6 yr old to see the Dolphins IMAX movie. I couldn't believe what a great choice it was until I heard the music. Music composed and performed by Sting. It was amazing. GO SEE if you get a chance.
