Here's the review of Sting at Irvine Meadows. I won't bore you with the set list because it hasn't changed from previous gigs. But I will fill you in on the highlights of the show.

Biggest news of the evening is that the goatee is gone!! However the Man still pulls on his chin, pondering as if it is still there.

First of all, I have to mention that we had front row seats and we were no more than 2 feet away from the Man. Irvine is a small outdoor venue and the stage is small and intimate enough to make the concert even better. The band is not removed from the crowd so Sting interacted with those in front during the whole show. The weather was a cool mid 70 degrees with a full moon out. It was a fantastic evening.

The biggest hit of the evening is when Sting pulled from the crowd a guy sitting just behind me to sing ISHICSC as he's been doing with other shows. Well this guy Matt is holding up sign asking to sing (must have see the List) and also saying that it is his birthday. Sting brings him up and Matt was just awesome. He had his wife and mom and dad with him at the show. After some on-stage chatter about the song being about divorce, Matt grabs the mike, jumps up and down and shouts; "My name is Matt, it's my birthday and this is my moment!!!!" The crowd went nuts. To top it off, Sting was ribbing him and he just rallied back with the best comebacks. He had Sting totally off guard and didn't know how to respond to this guy's great comments. The absolute best part was this guy could sing. In fact, Sting let him on his own a few times and he just ripped it up!! The crowd loved it. What was very touching was that Matt's wife had tears streaming down her eyes watching her husband up there singing with Sting. When he was done and came back, he got high-fived from everyone. Sting was so impressed he said "Wow! This boy can sing!" Great moment.

Sting wore his typical tank top, army fatigue pants and boots. His voice was in very good shape and the band was very tight. One thing I have to say, being a musician myself, Kenny Kirkland is a very underated musician. This guy is extremely good. Not to take anything away from the others, they are all excellent muscians in their own right, but kenny offers his own flavor that just fits so well with Sting. The sax and trombone players were not only great additions to the band, but they are so animated and are out there running around the stage, dancing and getting the crowd into the music, it was a perfect blend of music and theatre.

I can see if a band is not working well with a crowd or if the crowd is just not into it how difficult a concert can be. But tonight was different. The entire crowd was up on its feet the entire time, dancing and just going off to Sting. You could see the band was responding back and was more into the performance because they were just feeding off of the crowd. I have seen Sting numerous times and as far back as The Police in Europe in 1978 and this was one of his best shows ever.

Tonight is the San Diego show. For those who are going, make up your signs to sing and get on stage for "Your Moment!" I can only say that it was worth waiting for and spending the money to see The Man front row.

Thank you Sting!!!!!
