Blockbuster Desert Sky Pavilion - Phoenix, Arizona, United States

by Nathan S. Brooks on September 5, 1996

If any of you went to the Phoenix show, yes, I am THE Nathan. If you didn't happen to get to the show, not to gloat or anything, but I SANG WITH STING!!! This was one of the greatest moments of my life, and I highly recommend doing it if you get the chance.

First, the concert. Sting was wearing some kind long blue shirt, leather pants, and combat boots. Kenny still has the cane, and the rest of the band basically looked the same from the last tour. I can't really remember the set list too well, sorry folks.

OK, now on to the big moment. I had made a big sign earlier today, but when we got to the venue, the security said I couldn't take it in, because it was bigger than a sheet of paper, so I had to take it back to the car. I still had my license place, STNG FN, with me and I made a sign with a piece of paper. During the fifth song, Sting saw my plate, and mouthed "Thank You" to me. Then when the moment of truth came upon, I was jumping up and down and waving my sign. Oh, I should mention that I was in the 3rd row. Sting narrowed it down to me and another guy, and finally chose me. I almost ran on stage, all the while getting high fives from everyone. I jumped my the stairs and behind the curtain. At this time, he was picking a person to play bass for him. When I came out, 14k people were screaming for me. What a rush. But then I went over to the man and shook his hand. He asked for my name, and I told him.

Me: I have been a fan for 10 years.

Sting: Thank you. This song is about divorce, are you divorced?

M: Nope

S: Are you married then?

M: No

Sting: Do you have a girlfriend?

M: Not really...

S: Ladies, this guy is single. (cheers, etc. Real ego booster)

S: Do you know how to sing?

M: Not a lick

S: Good, I like that. Do you at least know the words?

M: Yeah, I do.

S: Do you want to sing lead or the chorus?

M: The chorus.

S: Mike, do you know how to play the bass?

Mike (the other guy picked): Yeah...

S: F-Sharp right? (laughs)

Mike: Yup.

Then the band started up, and I sang very weakly, and Mike played the bass very well. I kinda got the crowd on its feet and clapping, and I had a really good time. Best musical moment ever. I would recommend it, if just for the moment you walk off stage, and people are cheering for you, and when you leave for the night, all of these strangers come up to you. It rocked!!!

Umm, two more things:

  1. Did anyone tape the show?? If so, I will pay for a copy.
  2. Nate, or someone else, do you have Kim Turner's mailing address, the sound tech said I could probably get a copy of my preformance if I wrote him.

Thanks for listening. Good luck!!!

The concert in Phoenix seemed much the same. This time Sting wore a long blue silk top bellow his knees and leather pants with combat boots. He was looking pretty sharp. He kept telling us how hot it was and we where all laughing at his bad choice of Arizona clothing. By the end of the night he had his shirt off of dancing around on stage. Does anyone know if you can get any of the concert stuff (shirts etc.) on the net somewhere? I bought a Mercury falling T-shirt but I would love to have the others too.
