Gotta say, this concert was one of Sting's best ever. Thought that it was a bit slow in the beginning, but then they clicked in and man did he kick ass.
Great interaction with the audience.
The set list was about the same as for the Beacon Theater as previously report by Josh, whose post I repeat below.....I HOPE YOU DON'T MIND JOSH, YOU JUST HIT IT SO DEAD ON IN YOUR REVIEW!
All is the same except there was no tribute to Kenny at Oakdale.....at least not that I noted and the opening act was M'shelle (not Cheb)......don't remember her name but she is on Brand New Day....she was great with an incredible guitarist and unbelievable keyboardist....while no offense is meant to Sting's current keyboardist, I wish Sting would steal away this keyboardist.
Kenny and Branford are sorely missed on stage. Though he is playing with competent artists on stage, there's just nothing like the music that the old Blue Turtles crew turned out.
I was struck by the fact that this concert sounds quite a bit like the Bring On The Night concert, similar set list and similar song structures! Perhaps that's what made me miss Kenny and Branford so much.
Now Kenny's gone, what are we to do?
I was a bit disappointed that the audience banter that Josh mentions in his review of the Beacon show, was verbatim what Sting said to the Oakdale audience, ostensibly extemporaneously! The "I can hear everything you say" line and the "Tantric shopping for Trudy" comment were exactly the same.
Come on Sting! We love ya, you can risk making unscripted comments to your audiences!
Again, great show. If you haven't seen him yet and are waiting, ticket in hand, for an upcoming show, you are in for a great treat. I'd go again if I could manage it!
