This is a report of the 3 shows in the south of France last weekend.
First of all, I want to present my friends who made the Tour together. Xavi Martori from Barcelona the first singer in ISHICSC (Pau Zenith 20.12.96), Xavi Gascon (the vague man!!, but the best man!!!), Miquel Martinez the second singer on ISHICSC (Toulouse Palais des Sports 21.12.96), Xavi Vilaseca (the tape recorder & photographer) and finally....me, Toni Carbó the last one who sing with STING ISHICSC. 3 concerts & 3 Catalan citizens singing in France.
Montpellier....the show was in the Zenith...bigger than the one of Pau, but great quality sound!! Sting had some serious problems with Vinnie. (More info about this from Guido from Italy. Guido...remember to send me the photocopies of the backstage papers!! And report your meeting with STING and band before the show).
The setlist was the same...with Noa singing on Fields Of Gold and with a big long version of When The World.
....and the moment!!!....ISHICSC....and me on the stage!! Well, I don't have words to explain what I feel during this long, long moment...but short when end!! Just say what I say in that moment, "Thanks STING", "Merci Montpellier".
I was in Montpellier with Barbara on 22 Dec. and it was the best Christmas present I have received ever...... At 11:00 in the morning a man working on stage (I can't write the name) has given to me 2 local crew passes and I had the chance to speak with Dominic. Kenny and specially Vinnie who told me incredible facts...
Sting didn't come at 17.30 for the soundcheck because he was in his friends castle not far from Montpellier. We were sitting in the backstage from 15:30 to 21:30 so we had enough time to contact all the band member except......Sting.
Sting arrived at 20:30 (with his friend family) just in time to join a little Christmas party held in the catering zone close to the kitchen. We were present for all the party.......champagne, cake and kisses but personally I wasn't enough strong to go in front of him with my glass asking champagne because I was petrified about the situation.
The only thing I have ask to him was a photo but he replied to me: 'LATER' and not so gently so I decided to wait until he feel like giving me 2 second for a photo but suddenly a French organizer come to me asking to move away from the catering zone reserved ONLY to the stage workers.......
A french guy from Montpellier (I don't remember the name) with a man of radio NRJ were present too but Sting didn't accept any interview with nobody.
We felt that the humor of Sting was very very bad and I am sorry for what happen to this french guy who won the NRJ contest to interview personally Sting but has been refused even to say hello to him...... Now I wish to know what radio NRJ will say to his fans who are waiting to hear this interview never started.......
Anyway we have talked for more than 5 minutes with Vinnie who had an italian girlfriend from Napoli and we discovered many things:
1- Vinnie is playing in this band ONLY because the contract is signed.
2- 2 months ago he taken a ride with Sting because he is still convinced that Sting hate him and don't want to give him a drum solo as he did with Omar Hakim during The Dream of.... tour for the song I BURN FOR YOU.
3- He was very hungry (and little exaurited) to play more than one year and half and spend the 23 December on the other side of the planet leaving his family in California.
Anyway I have asked him when he will be ready to recorder the next new album with Sting and he answered.......Who?? Never, I will probably make my personal album during 1997 but I need a very long break until summer. I have asked when the Mercury Falling tour will end and he has confirmed in GENEVE Switzerland in February so NO SOUTH AMERICA ANYMORE!!!!!
The concert was great with Antoni Carbo singing (with a mistake) ISHICSC but my dream to talk with Sting has vanished even with a passes.....
