THE BANDChris Collingwood: Lead Vocals, Guitars, and KeyboardsAdam Schlesinger: Drums, Guitars, Bass, Keyboards, and Vocals Jody Porter: Guitar Brian Young: Drums ![]() From L-R: Brian Young, Chris Collingwood, Adam Schlesinger and Jody Porter The lead singer for Fountains of Wayne is Chris Collingwood who is a Pennsylvania native. The band got its name from a store selling fountains in Wayne, New Jersey named ironically, Fountains of Wayne. Chris Collingwood named the band Fountains of Wayne because he liked the store so much! Collingwood spent some years in Boston with his country side project, the Mercy Buckets. He eventually moved to New York, where he ganged up with Adam Schlesinger, an ex-bandmate and roommate from a few years earlier. Schlesinger, who was also part of Ivy, yet another band they were in, soon joined up with Collingwood and so, Fountains of Wayne was born. They started writing songs and before long, they basically had an album out. The self-titled album came out in October of 1996. Collingwood and Schlesinger basically were the band while recording. They did get some help from Danny Weinkauf who played some bass and Dominique Durand who has the backing vocals to "Survival Car." Schlesinger also produced the album which was recorded at The Place in NYC. Their new label, Scratchie Records, is run by James Iha and D'arcy of the Smashing Pumpkins. Other great bands on the label are Fulflej and Chainsaw Kittens among many others. So far the band has released two singles. The first was "Radiation Vibe." . In March, they released "Sink to the Bottom." The band also toured with the The Smashing Pumpkins on their last leg of their Mellon Collie tour. Fountains of Wayne may well be the next "BIG" band the hit the earth so if you haven't got the album yet, make sure you get it! Page layout and design by Terence Lin ® 1997 Terence Lin |
