L.S.U. C-Stone 93
press confrence
M.K.: Let's pray, God help me please, alright. Amen! This is Time Edding. He is our booking
agent; he booked the little 3 week extravaganza we are about to do. This is Brian Diodge. He is the guitar
player of LSU. This is Eric Coomes; he is our new bass player. And Ed is not here, he's in the potty. My name is..uh..Jim.
So does anyone have any questions before we leave?
What are all the changes in the band? Give us a rundown.
MK: That might take a while...OK we are coming out with a new record next month...As you probably know
Blonde Vinyl went through some troubles over the last 6 months because out distributor filed bancruptcy. That was Spectra. I personally lost $116,000...of other people's money.
So anyway, all of our product is being held at Spring Arbor, about 45,000 units, which is half a million in retail sales.....Thats Ed, he's the drummer.
How'd it go Ed?
It went well.(laughs)
M.K.: Anyway what I'm doing is reforming the company. I got distribution through Diadem, which is a co. out of Nashville. And instead of
of calling it Blond Vinyl, we're still going to have Bonde Vinyl that is going to do side projects on other labels, this one's going to be called Siren Music. We're releasing an LSU album called
Cash in Choas World Tour next monthand then a new Michael Knott called...Liquid(he said liquid, not Fluid). The month after that, a new Dance House Children. Instead of doing 50,000 albums a year like we were doing, we're just going to do 8 and it will be a lot ewasier. I'll just run it out of my house and it will be a little bit smaller. Anyway this is the band for now and we're going to keep these members together for LSU. The truth about the title of the album is that we are changing the name in a sense to Cash in Chaos. The reason for that is that we were talking to some secular majors and the have trouble with
the name that is Louisiana State University. Personally we thought that if we were going to keep it LSU we'd have to change the name to Lesbian Students Union. (laugh)...that wouldn't go over so..anyway, any questions?
Does the name Cash in Choas have ant personal significance to you?
Diodge: Yeah, Chapter 11
Is that your prayer?
MK: It's my plight in life, I guess that Cash will always be in Choas. I think that it represents me and my Shallow views on money and the world at large. So many things rely on money and we never have enough of it, and we always waste it on...burgers or something. It's a kind of anme that has a few diffrent meanings...I dson't know...it means nothing actually...no.
Doidge: Basically we are changing the name again.
MK: To Poor.(laugh) We'll still be called LSU in this community because that's what we are known as. I don't know if you noticed it, but if you look at the cover it has an L and then the bungee guy from "Shaded Pain" and then a U. So someone sho doesn't know who LSU is will think that the band is Cash in Choas and the album is World Tour. People who don't know anything....could care less, so it doesn't matter. The reason the album is called World tour is because it deals with all the things in the world. The whole struggle of "in the world, but not of the world." and all that.
What's with the "Shaded Pain" re-issue?
MK: Shaded Pain is coming out on Metro One. What happened was, for the last 6 months we have been so broke and we didn't have money for diapers and stuff. So what I decided to do was call up the bands that I had on contract and see which ones would let me sell them and make some money. so Wally Shaw of Dietiphobia was nice enough to let me sell him, and I thank him dearly. So in return I got the Saded Pain masters from Frontline and I was all excited about putting them out myself and then I ran into financial troubles. So I leased them out to Metro One. So that's coming out in September. We were going to sign LSU to Broken records, for a bundle of money, but we decided not to do it because we had other people interested in the secular community. So we didn't do that, but we are still LSU or Cash in Choas or whatever it is. I don't really own Shaded Pain anymore, but it will be cool. It will come out and we'll still be able to put out LSU records.
Is the Secular deal pretty much secure?
MK: No, not at all. It's all in Chaos as well. Every time we meet with company people they ask us "What's with this name, LSU?" They wanted us to do something that would change it on our own without really asking us to do it. I don't know if it's going to work or not. I don't want people to think that we're not LSU anymore because we still are. It's just for the fact of doimg something a little bit further.
Is it a continuation of The Grape Prophet?
There are a lot of Jane's Addiction influences, and because of Eric there are some Primusinfluences and Eric helped with a couple of the songs and put his love of Primus in there. That was good. Yeah it's an extention, I guess, of what we did on that album. It's not a concept album though. It's just a bunch of songs all kind of dealing with the same things, but it's not a concept album.
Is Shaded Pain remixed or remastered?
It is going to be remastered, probably not remixed. I tried to get some cds for the festival, but the master was all messed up, so we didn't get it done in time.
more to come!!!
