Previous and Upcoming for The Divine

Hello. I re-did the page so that instead of having all the Divine news and rumours on the main page of Bette's, it would have it's own special page and would therefore hopefully not take so long to load. So, let's see...

Bette's 2 movies are out, the first of which with Nathan Lane and the all-star cast is "Isn't She Great?". Go see this movie! It is hillarious, and it is not getting the respect it deserves! It's a GREAT movie, worth critical and commercial success and it's not happening. Support the dream cast so that future intelligent movies with as much talent, heart and enthusiasm present in this wonderful picture will continue to be made! The other, which is with Danny Devito, Jamie Lee Curtis and Neve Campbell is scheduled to open on March 3rd and looks hillarious. Best of luck to Bette on this one as well.

Bette's fall tour is underway! Audiences that have seen this show say it is Bette's best tour ever! She sings many of her greatest hits as well as some older songs, like 'Marijuana' and 'Otto Titsling' and 'I Think It's Going to Rain Today'. I will be seeing her in Chicago on November 6, so look here for a review! Best of luck to Bette. Bette's latest film, 'Drowning Mona' with Danny Devito has supposedly wrapped shooting and should be released this Spring, right on the heels of 'Isn't She Great?'. This film co-stars Neve Campbell, and Jamie Lee Curtis as well as Bette and Danny.

As for the other film, 'Isn't She Great' which we've all been waiting for for over a year which co-stars Nathan Lane, David Hyde Pierce, Stockard Channing, Sarah Jessica Parker and John Cleese is that it will be released January 28th, 2000!

I was at the Meryl Streep on-line page last night, and as I was looking at the films upcoming for this wonderful and talented actress, I came across a page with a possible project coming up entitled 'Boys R Us'. It was a quote from a magazine of some sort saying Meryl, Bette and Emma Thompson were all in talks to star opposite each other in this film. I've always thought Bette and Meryl would have wonderful chemistry, and if you threw in Emma Thompson (fantastic in 'Primary Colors'), this could be a HUGE film. More as info arrives.

Bette has recently been hailed again for her efforts with the Manhatten Restoration Project. She donated $250,000 of her own money to keep areas in New York from being sold to realtors and developers. She has been called a 'saint' as she truly is. Congratulations, Bette. You never cease to amaze us.

Bette recently made a cameo appearance on former Harlette and longtime friend Jenifer Lewis' new film, 'Jackie's Back' which was aired several times on lifetime.

The latest about 'Isn't She Great' is a release date of September 3rd.

The main event floating around among Bette fans is Bette's New Year's Eve concert and fall tour. Of course Bette is legendary for her special New Years concerts (she always comes up with creative ideas to bring in the new year with) and we now know she is not going to allow the millenium to slip by without a performance by her. She will be playing the Mandalay Bay theatre, which is in Las Vegas, December 31st and January 1st as part of her fall tour. Tickets will go for $95, $300, and $500 on December 31st and $95, $200 and $500 on January 1st. This is quite cheap considering the prices of other star's New Years performances--Rod Stewart going for a couple thousand, and get this--Barbra Streisand tickets will cost a cool million each reportedly! Makes you feel a little better about Bette's prices, doesn't it? And hey! Bette actually has talent, too! :) (Sorry Barbra fans, but a MILLION dollars?) Other stars reportedly making special New Years Eve performances are Bonnie Raitt, and an Elton John/ Tina Turner concert. More dates will be posted about her fall tour (and YES, it has been confirmed a fall tour is in planning!) here. Hope all of you that go to the New Year's show enjoy yourselves...as if you couldn't. Write and tell me what it's like.

Bette has signed on to do another movie! This summer she will reportedly film a movie (as yet untitled) with Danny DeVito and Neve Campbell. It is supposed to be a 'whodunnit' film, I guess somewhat to the degree of Campbell's 'Wild Things', except not as sexual. A great film to check out, 'Wild Things', it's a breakthrough for film. The plot twists and suprizes and a deep plot make it a great film to watch. Bette and Danny have been wonderful friends for years and have played on film twice, both to critical and public acclaim, in 'Ruthless People', one of Bette's primier flicks and during Bette's cameo in Danny's 'Get Shorty' film. They have wonderful chemistry. Best of luck to all involved with this film!

Bette was on David Letterman a while ago with her good friend, David Hyde Pierce, with whom she just shot 'Isn't She Great'? the life story of the 'Valley of the Dolls' author Jackie Susann. David had wonderful things to say about Bette, adding that when he works with the big stars, he always let's them know who's boss right away, and therefore called Bette 'boss' pretty much from day one. :) Bette was on the show promoting her album 'Bathhouse Betty', which was released in September. She was quite hilarious discussing flashing people, and complaining about the coldness. She also sang one of the more meaningful songs of the album (and probably of her career) when she sang the beautiful 'Lullabye In Blue', about a mother's reflections years later after giving up her baby for adoption when she was 17. Over-all the interview was exteremely well-done and was a lot of fun. Bette also co-hosted the 'Rosie 'o' Donnel' show rounding up her latest television interviews. She's done a lot of press for the album including Rosie, Jay Leno, The View, Larry King Live and the Roseanne show, which reunited her with several of her old back-up singers the Harlettes and her former piano player Barry Manilow.

The film she shot with David Hyde Pierce, 'Isn't She Great', which also co-stars Nathan Lane, Stockard Channing, Sarah Jessica Parker and John Cleese was to be released by next October in theatres, however it is reported that it will definetly play beginning September 3rd. The MPAA rating is R for language. Expectations are exteremely high for this picture because of it's incredible talented cast and a supposed role of a lifetime for Bette. Let's all show our support when the film opens! I can't wait. Ok, it's a ways off yet, but still...

There isn't much else news at this point to tell you. Come back soon for updates!

Come back soon!
