Rolling Cef Concert Reviews

Volume I, Issue #1 (8/23/97)

The Nixons w/ Local H and Drain STH
August 15, 1997
Guadalupe Park, San Jose, CA

These guys are excellent. They had a song on 102.1 about a year ago which was pretty good. Their live show has the energy of the rock concerts of the 80's. Definitely worth checking out. Opening up, was Local H who weren't nearly as good as I expected. There was also a group of 4 girls from Sweden called Drain STH. Their music wasn't bad, but the best thing they have going for them is their sex appeal!

Our Lady Peace w/ Maypole
August 20, 1997
Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco, CA

What a treat it was to see OLP in a small club. Attendance was somewhere between 50 and 100 people. OLP are just starting to get popular down here, with Superman's Dead getting airplay right now. The band was hanging out in the crowd before their set and were virtually unrecognized. The live show is better than I remember. They're extremely tight and the lead singer has amazing range. Opening up was band called Maypole. This band is also signed to Sony and one of the guitarists used to be in the Wall Flowers. They had a pretty good sound, something like Cracker. Well worth the $7.

Sammy Hagar
August 22, 1997
Concord Pavilion, Concord, CA

We just decided to see Sammy on the spur of the moment. We drove up to the Concord Pavilion and got there about 30 minutes before the show. We stopped at one scalper on the way in. He sold us 2 tickets at cost and the seats were center stage, about 25 rows back. We really got lucky cause the place holds about 12000 people. It was an incredible show. Sammy proved that he doesn't need Van Halen to draw the crowd. As always, women threw their bras at him and he had a collection of about 20 by the end of the show. He was on stage for about 3 hours playing a wide collection of songs and showing the crowd how to mix a 'Waborita'. For a 45-year old he's full of energy and shows no signs of slowing down. Here's the list of songs performed, that I can remember.

Montrose:
Bad Motor Scooter

Solo:
There's Only One Way To Rock
Heavy Metal
Eagles Fly
Three Lock Box
I Can't Drive 55
Returning Home
Eagles Fly

Van Halen:
Why Can't This Be Love
Dreams
Finish What You Started
Right Now

New CD:
Little White Lie
Salvation On Sand Hill
Who Has The Right?
Kama
Both Sides Now
Marching To Mars
