ALE'S CHAUFFEUR COMMITS SUICIDE!

 

June '98:- Ale's chauffeur, Carlos Fonseca, committed suicide at Ale's home in Mexico City. He was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

It was understood by the police that he had had serious family problems during the last few months leading up to this final desperate act, and had finally resolved to take his own life in Ale's home.

Ale was understood to be distressed by the tragic event but made no official comment to the press.

'GIPSY' IS A HIT!

 

June '98:- The classic Broadway musical 'Gipsy', which stars Ale and Silvia Pinal - Ale's real-life mother - is proving to be a critical and commercial success!

Premiered in Mexico City (June 10th) Gipsy, a burlesque comedy based on the life of Gipsy Rose Lee, was performed before an enthusiastic audience. It has also receive very favorable reviews from the press. The performances of both Silvia, who played the central character, and Ale, who played the character of Louise, won critical acclaim.

The lavish production involves a total of 17 set changes and boasts a cast of 40 actors, all of whom rehearsed for 12 weeks prior to opening. The show was directed by Enrique Reyes, the sets designed by David Anton, the choreography was by Roberto and Mitzuko, and the director of music - Jorge Neri.

Our leading lady, Silvia Pinal is very much a living legend these days and is much adored by the Mexican public. A veteran of film and theater, this fine actress has enjoyed a highly prolific and successful career which began back in the late '40's. It is a career which is still going strong today. Silvia is, not surprisingly, no stranger to the stage.

For Ale however, Gipsy represents something of a departure. Although primarily known as a rock singer, she appears to have slipped into the role of stage actress with remarkable ease. This shouldn't really come as a surprise however because Ale does have a background as a TV actress and, more notably, was the star of the big screen movie 'Verano Peligroso' (Dangerous Summer), a lighthearted comedy released in '89. One of the highlights of 'Gipsy', apparently, was when she performed a striptease:-).

The show was also to have featured Stephanie Salas, Silvia's granddaughter and pop star in her own right, to make it a real family affair. She was to have played the role of June, but unfortunately she quit the show with barely a week to go before its premier, saying that she didn't have total faith in the project. However, her role was admirably filled by Maru Duenas - a highly talented singer and actress.

When asked how long the production would run, Silvia hinted that it would be for as long as the public wanted it. Judging by the response it has received so far, it would appear that there is a very healthy appetite for 'Gipsy'!

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF FRIDA

 

Late June '98:- 4 men are charged with the attempted kidnapping of Ale's only child, Frida Sophie, aged 6.

Ale's personal secretary, Victor Bonilla Calderon, was escorting Frida on a visit to some friends of her Grandmother when the 4 men approached. Victor was asked to offer no resistance, but when he refused and tried to prevent the abduction of Frida, one of the men beat him over the head with a baseball bat, leaving him unconscious. The men then took Frida into a waiting car and drove off.

Fortunately, police in the area were alerted to the incident, and after a high speed chase, the kidnappers were apprehended. Frida was later returned safely to her mother. Both Frida and Victor survived non the worse for their ordeal.

All 4 men are currently awaiting jail sentences.

AIDS CHARITY ALBUM

 

July '98:- The album 'Una Mundo Una Esperanza' (One World, One Hope) is on sale. Intended to promote AIDS awareness, the album was officially launched from the Hard Rock Cafe in Mexico City. All profits from the album will be donated to the foundation against AIDS. So far, the album is only sold in Mexico, but it is hoped that it will be available in other countries soon. All artists, including Ale, volunteered their services for this album. The track listing is as follows:-

ALE'S HUSBAND IS ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES.

MARRIAGE SET TO END IN DIVORCE.

 

July '98:- Ale's recent marriage to Farrel Goodman looks likely to end in divorce.

Farrel was arrested in last month in Germany for possession of narcotics. He was waiting for his flight to Miami when police made the arrest. He was found to be carrying about 1000 'Ecstasy' pills. He is currently in custody and awaiting trial. If found guilty of drug trafficking, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

The first that Ale and her parents knew of the incident was through the media, and at the time she refused to make any official comment. It was only later, after having the full facts confirmed to her by Farrel's father - Harvey Goodman - that she spoke of her profound disappointment, stating that she now realized that Farrel was not the man she thought she married.

She has now filed for divorce.

Harvey Goodman too was said to be disappointed and has spoken of the shame that his son has brought upon himself and his family.

Ale and Farrel - a Jewish American - married earlier this year on March 7th, after a whirlwind romance and amid much media interest in Mexico. The big day was attended by parents of both the bride and groom - a somewhat remarkable attendance in the case of Ale's father - Enrique Guzman - as he has subsequently voiced his public disapproval of Farrel. Ale was quoted saying at the time that she didn't give a damn what her father thought. She went on to say:- "My Dad is not a bit jealous... he is extremely jealous! He can think what he wants to think, that's his problem. What matters to me is what 'I' think because I am not going around telling people who they should marry. I believe that if he does not like my husband, then he should not have gone to our wedding!"

But, as they say, that was then...!

RECENT INTERVIEW

 

Aug 12th :- "I am a Human Being!" declared Ale in a recent interview. "Being an artist does not mean that I'm no longer a human being... I am a woman who loves intensely and I'm not afraid of making the wrong move when I am in love!'

In an open and frank interview, Ale went on to admit that she had made a mistake in marrying Farrel (Goodman). She is divorcing him at this present time and has stated that she does not want anything else to do with him, vehemently pointing out that he had lied to her. But she also went on to say that she was living with some beautiful things in her life. She was now evolving as both as a mother and as a woman.

"Of course I was hurt after what happened... and I'm also sure that I would have been hurt if this had happened in another time. Now I have someone to live for, someone who loves me without conditions - my daughter, Frida Sofia. She gives me the most sincere love of all, and that is why I am moving on with my life."

And on her future plans:-

"I have already started rehearsing for my new show. I will first finish my season at the theater (currently, she is staring in 'Gipsy' - see news round-up) and I'll start touring again in October. We are still promoting LaGuzman (her latest album) but I don't know if I want to record an another album now, or after the tour."

She also admitted that her stillborn TV show 'Aire' was a waste of time. She accused the TV network of being afraid of airing something new and crazy! 'Aire', a chat/variety show, was piloted but was never broadcasted.

ALE FINDS NEW ROMANCE!

 

Aug 17th :- It is rumored that Ale has found new man in her life. Although nothing seems definite at the moment, she has been seen and photographed in public with a new partner. Little is known of him as yet, but his name is Mario and he is aged 24.

Given the recent problems with her marriage to Farrel Goodman, and the problems he appears to have caused (see news round-up) she seems determined to put all her troubles behind her and get on with her life!

'LA GUZMAN POR LARIOS'

 

Sept 1st :- Ale was finally able to announced the opening of her new clothing store in Mexico City - to be called 'La Guzman por Larios'. The clothes are all designed by top fashion designer 'Javier Larios' - some of the designs promise to be as sexy as Ale herself (it says here - thanks Jose!:-).

"He was the one who designed my miniskirts and everything else I use. We always wanted to go into business and now we are finally making it a reality!"

Apparently, there had been a delay in opening the store due to incompletion of the necessary paperwork required by the Mexican authorities, but now things look set for launch on Wednesday the 9th of September. It is hoped that among the fashion items, fans will be able to purchase items of clothing that were worn by Ale herself - at reasonable prices!

ALE TO LEAVE 'GIPSY'

 

Sept 1st :- It has been confirmed that Cynthia Klitbo and Margo Lopez will replace Ale and Silvia Pinal (Ale's Mother) in the comedy musical 'Gipsy', currently enjoying a successful run on stage in Mexico City (see further down this page for more details on 'Gipsy'). Both replacement actresses are due to start rehearsals in a few weeks.

"I am exiting 'Gipsy' to record my next album", she explained, "There are a lot of ideas for it but I must confess that I have no title or songs just yet - but it will be a great record!"

Flushed from her theater success, she went on to say, "I have found that I can also make it as an actress. Theatre critics have given me an award for being best actress in the musical. It is a great honour to be awarded on only my second play!"

She also made a welcome return to the rock stage recently, which took place in Reynosa (Mexico) - at the time of which she also made the following comment:-

"Well, I have been hit hard by the past events (read some of the news items further down this page and you'll see exactly what she means!), but what keeps me going is my career, my daughter and me..." She went on to explain the old adage of what doesn't kill you will make you strong - and Ale it seems is proving to be a very tough cookie indeed!

And as for her future 'ex'-husband - "No, I don't miss him (Farrel Goodman) at all. Why should I miss the man who *$!%... (...something I, err... accidentally 'lost' in translation here!)".

KIDNAPPING LATEST -

ALE VICTIM OF EXTORTION ATTEMPT

 

Sept 10th :- Law officials arrested two men on extortion charges in connection with the attempted kidnapping of Ale's daughter, Frida (see news item further down this page). Pedro Gonzalez Tovar, aged 21, and Juan Romero Martinez, 18, admitted that they had received 140 thousand pesetas from Ale in order to prevent the kidnapping.

At the time (in June) Ale and her family denied any involvement, but it had been confirmed this week by city officials upon the arrest the two men. They confessed to be part of a kidnapping ring, extorting Ale and being actual particpants in the attempted kidnapping.

It was also discovered that they had an agenda in which they had listed all other victim whom they were extorting. Under Ale's entry, they had all her phone numbers, including one at Silvia Pinal's theater, her house and several other entries.

DRUG SAGA LATEST!!!

 

Nov 17th :- Latest on Farrel Goodman's drug conviction - Ale has denied having any relations with drug dealers after her husband Farrel, in an apparent bid to reduce his jail sentence, said that it was Ale who had introduced him to the dealer he was working for. He gave his detailed account of his involvement and stated that he involved himself in drug trafficking because he had no money of his own and was living of his wife's earnings. He also went on to say that their marriage failed because of his failed business, and his wife's alcohol problem!

Naturally, Ale had a lot to clarify after these accusations thrown at her and stated that she had know knowledge of what was going on. She went on TV to say:-

"I'm ashamed that all this has happening and I hope that it ends soon. I cannot understand why a person who said that him loved me would say such things. I have never had relations with people who want to harm me. I believe his testimony is just his way of trying to get a shorter sentence. I am not involved in drugs - my conscience is clean!"

Farrel currently remains behind bars in Dusseldorf, Germany! Divorce proceedings are under way.

ALE - PREGNANCY LATEST!!!

 
Nov 17th :- The 'is she/isn't she' pregnancy rumors that have been circulating the past week or so can now apparently be laid to rest. Ale is 'not' pregnant. She stated this emphatically in an interview with Pepe Barreto on Mexican TV during her shoot for her forthcoming appearance on the cover of 'Latin Style' magazine - and looking as slim and sleek as ever!!!
