FUTURE
OF CLOTHES STORE IN DOUBT
16th Jan '99 :- The future of Ale's new clothing store
'LaGuzman por Larios' has been thrown into doubt after it's
closure just days before Christmas '98, due in part to poor
sales. The store was only first opened for business a few
months prior to this major setback (see News Archives '98). It
was reported that the last day of business was on 23rd December
and was only open for half that day, with some items being sold
at up to 50% off sale price.
Rumours are circulating that the store is being sued by its
employees, though this has yet to be confirmed. According to
magazine sources, the store was selling very little and prices
were far too high and beyond the reach of many people - a fact
that would have been helped by the hash economic climate
prevalent in Mexico at the moment. The store was closed whilst
Ale was on vacation. In the meantime, Lario himself will have
to wait to discuss the matter with Ale and decide on the
store's future.
LATEST ON MARRIAGE AND
CAREER.
26th Jan '99 :- In a recent interview in Miami, Ale has said
that she will never marry again. In light of her disastrous
marriage to Farrel Goodman (currently on enforced holiday in
Germany!) this is perhaps understandable. On the subject of
marriage, she stated:-
"I won't marry again, even if I met the man of my dreams, I
would be really stupid if I married again. Marrying was the
dumbest thing I have ever done. I wanted to do it because I had
never experienced it. I had many illusions but I paid a high
price for being stubborn. I'm not divorced yet, but I will be
soon. Besides, I don't need a wedding to love and to give
myself to a man. I won't make the same mistake again. God will
understand. It's better to live freely, if things don't work
out, you can always say Bye!'
On her current beau, Mauricio Robles (lucky man!), she
said:-
"We go out together, we travel and spend a lot of good times
together, we live in our own house and sleep in our own bed -
but I won't tell you more, I don't want the Press to get into
my private life. My family suffered a lot with my wedding and I
don't want them to suffer more. I'd rather be a single woman in
love."
...and on finance:-
"A person has to do a little bit of everything to earn money
because my daughter's (Frida Sofia) education is expensive and
I have to pay for it."
At the moment, Ale is working on her new album - the follow
up to her successful live album 'LaGuzman'. And, apparently
unfazed by the troubles currently blighting her present store
in Mexico, she is also considering opening a clothes store in
Miami. There is no further news as yet of 'LaGuzman por
Larios'. The Mexican economy is currently feeling what is
quaintly termed as the 'Samba Effect' (thanks Arturo!) - i.e.
the knock-on effect of the Brazilian economic crisis which is
having it's effect on Mexico, and on many other countries
around the world. How much of this can be atributed to
'Laguzman por Larios' current plight is, at the moment, hard to
say.
And on the musical 'Gipsy' -- In a recent phone interview
with 'El Universal', Ale's mother Silvia Pinal said:-
"There's a possibility that Ale might come back and join the
cast of Gipsy, but it all depends on her singing agenda. From
the very beginning of the play she had told me that she would
give me a hand every now and then when the play is on tour. Our
Mexico City season will be over by March and we are talking
about the possibility of working together once again in a
national tour of Gipsy. "
Iran Castillo (the latest actress to assume the role of
Louise, previously played by Ale) will soon end her
participation in Gipsy, and so Silvia has to decide what to do
next.
"The play had a very special flavour when Ale was in it
because she is aggressive - especially the striptease scene.
But Iran met all my expectations, since I was looking for an
actress with the same aptitudes as the character. I was never
looking for someone to be the same as Ale. I have always said
that it's not good to compare people. The character requires a
certain level of timidness and Iran performed it well!"
Gipsy has proved to be one of the most important stage
musicals in recent years, and made all the more remarkable
because it brought mother and daughter together in the same
production - something that doesn't happen often in a
production as lavish as this in - any country!
"It was wondeful to work with Alejandra - it was an
idiscribable sensation because we played mother and daughter
who loved each other - just like us! I think this play was
another door in Ale's life because this type of work is very
solid and Ale did extrodinarily well. She now has more points
in her favour. That is why I feel very proud to have a daughter
like Ale - a rocker, crazy, fun, with a lot of vitality, but
successful and intelligent overall. She knows what she wants
and how to get it. I admire her as a daughter, woman and
artist!"
NEW ALBUM ... and
GIPSY?
24th Feb '99 :- Earlier this month, Ale stated that she is
about to begin work on her new album. There is no title as yet
but it will be her first studio album since the successful 1996
platter 'Cambio de Piel'. At the moment she is still choosing
songs and finalising details with her producers.
Ale has also stated her interest in starring in a TV series
about the life of her famous mother, Silvia Pinal. But only
days after this interview, Silvia told El Universal that she
had not had the chance to discuss this with her daughter.
Silvia said that for such a project to go ahead she would have
to give up the rights to her life story, and at this moment in
time she is not prepared to do this. She is keener to publish
her story in book form - which, if this should come about,
should be a fascinating read (the author of this Homepage hopes
that there will be an English version in print!). Silvia is
also involved in various other projects, which includes
producing a TV soap opera 'La Bastarda!'.
Further to any future mother/daughter collaborations, these
will now 'not' include Ale's return to the stage musical
'Gipsy', as was first rumoured. This is mainly due to Ale's
work commitments on her aformentioned new album.
FRIDAY NIGHT ON THE
TOWN!
24th Feb '99 :- Friday night on the 7th and Ale attended the
opening of a dance club called 'Acustica'. She was invited
along by her long-time friend Kenny (of Kenny y los
Electricos). Kenny performed most of his popular standards and
also invited Ale to come up on stage with him. Ale sang 2
numbers and, by all accounts, these were the highlights of the
set. Ever the exhibitionist, Ale performed some of her raunchy
dance routines and also showed off her tattoo, apparently the
one behind the small of her back just above her... er, (yes),
to the audience! Acompanying Ale on this night out was her
current beau Mauricio Robles who together (when Ale was not
otherwise entertaining her audience) were entertaining each
other! A good night was had by all!
'GIPSY'S SEASON ENDS WITH
IT'S 200th SHOW
1st March '99 :- 'Gipsy' ended it's season with a
celebration of it's 200th performance. Among the guests of
honour were Ale herself - Saul Hernandez (Rock legend
singer/songwriter formally of Caffianes, now with Jaguares).
Here is what she had to say to the press:-
'In order to be rational, I need to be in peace with my
heart. Right now I am realy happy. I went back to taking
classes in tap, jazz and singing (refresher courses of course!)
so that my audience could see that I give my best and that I
return to the scene with a good image!'
...and of some of the more unsavoury stories that have made
the Mexican tabloids, 'I believe the media has overexposed me.
It's true that I created a heavy and crazy image of myself, but
there are things that should never have come out in the
papers.' Abviously refering to her marriage problems, Clothes
store problems, apparently also a drink problems - Ale seems to
have her problems!. But as she also said 'All is valid in love,
war and Rock! I don't regret anything that I've done. I've done
good things and bad things, but there are errors such as
getting married - something which I won't do twice,' she says.
Technically, she is still wed to Farrel Goodman (he on extended
holiday in Germay) but it seems only a matter of time before
the marriage is finally dissolved. She was accompanied at the
Gipsy celebration by her current beau Mauricio Robles.
On her forthcoming album, 'I've written some things, but
other people are writing strong lyrics for me too about my
life. I can assure you that I am in the best time to sing with
pain and emotion... it will be like a catharsis (it's in the
dictionary!) for me. Singing is most genuine when you are
sad!'
....And a few of her more recent quotable quotes:-
'The whole Farrel thing is over. One must move on and try to
be happy. I no longer believe in matrimony, after what has
happened to me I don't want to get involved in those problems.
Men are the other half of our lives, every woman's passion. We
need them in order to feel good. Things change when you get
married, I don't know why but nothing is the same after it. And
even though I only had the opportunity to be married for a
month, everything was different after I signed the paper!'
'I always like to give my best no matter what people do to
me, as you may recall, this is not the first time it has
happened to me - either way, one must keep on trusting others.
I will find something some day!'
'I had a great U.S. tour. I was able to see that Rock still
sells. I will work on my record where no one will bother me.
I'll be in Corijo... it's like a big palace in Malaga near
Marbella, Spain!'
ALE & SILVIA AWARDED FOR
'GIPSY'
8th March '99 :- The stage musical 'Gipsy' won official
recognition as 'best musical comedy' at an awards ceremony in
Mexico DF. Silvia Pinal won best actress in a musical comedy -
and Ale won best upcoming actress award, also in the musical
comedy catagory.
After recieving the award, Ale said, 'I want to share this
award with my mother, of whom I am proud. I believe that now I
am demonstrating that I can do things right in acting, even if
I am a Rocker. 'Mom, here is this award - I believe that I
learned something good by being by your side!''
She also made the follow comments to the press:-
'This is like getting a Ten at school - it's even better
than that. This is a gift that one will always remember. It
makes me feel big and full of enthusiasm to keep going ahead.
My career is something that I love with all my soul.'
'I learned theatre by going to school. It's like my mother
touched me with a magic wand. She made me take dance and
theatre classes... and I think that that is the best gift in my
life!'
She also stated her intentions to combine her acting and
music careers. Of her music, her for immediate plan is to
finish her next album - 'The album should be out in about two
or three months, although I don't have everything ready yet. I
am still waiting for more songs to chose from and a date to
begin recording.
ALE SINGS FOR 'CRI -
CRI'. FARREL GOODMAN A 'FREE' MAN. (Round-up of recent
news)
20th May '99 :- A various artists compilation album entited
'Ellas Cantan a Cri Cri' should be on sale at your favourite
online CD store any day now. Loosely translated the title means
'The girls sing for Cri Cri.' This album should be of
particular interest to Ale fans becuase she perform one of the
tracks entitled 'El Ropavejero.' Cri Cri is a fictional
charactor created by the late popular Latin American childrens
entertainer - Francisco Gabilondo Soler. His legacy, 'Cri Cri
the Singing Cricket' still endures 8 years after his death. As
the title suggest, the songs on the album will be performed by
some of todays popular Latin American female artists.
End of March '99 :- Ale's husband, Farrel Goodman, is now a
free man after spending a total of 9 month in a German prison
on drug trafficking offences. The sentence was cut short from
an earlier reported 10 years after psychiatric evaluation and
is co-operation with police in helping the bring his
accomplices in Mexico and Holand to book. He was initially
charged with possession of a large quantity of drugs, namely
the pills 'Ecstacy', and attempting to smuggle them through
customs.
Speaking of his reasons for smuggling, he said that he was
motivated by financial debts and the desire 'not' to live off
his wife's earnings. He was reportedly offered 5,000 dollars to
deliver the drugs.
Divorce papers await him in Mexico!
With divorce proceeds pending, Ale has attempted to carry on
with life. Several times recently she has been seen out with
her daughter, Frida - most recently on the Miami beach soaking
up the sun. With a little help from Mum, little Frida recently
celebrated her 7th birthday with a party which included a ride
on a Go-cart race track and all the candy she could eat. Among
the guest was proud Grandmother, Silvia Pinal and her Dad,
Pablo Moctezuma. A good time was had by all:-)
Throughout it all, Ale was subject to inevitable media
attention, and not surprisingly, certain sections of said media
chose to dwell on Ale's general appearance and various scandals
surrounding her private life at this moment (such as the
divorce) rather than any positive aspects of her life. Fans are
anxiously awaiting news of her follow-up album to
'LaGuzman'.
MARIA LUISA HIDALGO
16th June '99 :- Maria Luisa Hidalgo, the mother of Silvia
Pinal, passed away on the 13th of June after a long illness at
the age of 89.
**One of the main aims of this Newspage, and one of
the reason for retaining news in the News Archieves '98
page, is to chronicle the public life the Alejandra Guzman
and to try and keep fans informed of up-to-date developments
of her life and career. Also the idea of retaining 'all'
news items is to provide of continuation of Ale's life story
- to continue where the Biography-Part Two (found elsewhere
on this Homepage) leaves off. But obviously the passing of
Silvia Pinal's mother is no ordinary news item and it is
difficult to know what to say at this time, for myself or on
behalf of Ale's fans everywhere. Our prayers and deepest
sympathies are with Silvia and her family at this difficult
time.**
Maria is survived by her only daughter Silvia Pinal, her
grandchildren Alejandra Guzman, Enrique Guzman and Silvia
Pasquels - also her great-granddaughters Frida (Ale's
daughter), Stephanie (Silvia Pasquels daughter), and
Stephanie's daughter Michelle (Maria's great-grandchild). The
funeral service took place at the Funeral agency Gayosso Felix
Cuevas in Mexico. It was a private ceremony attended by family
and close friends.
'The light of those we love will continue to shine for as
long as we continue to remember those we love. Never forget
those we love!'

AND IN OTHER NEWS...
Ale's older sister, actress Silvia Pasquel has spoken on
T.V. about the death of thier Grandmother Maria Luisa, who
passed away last month. The family had decided to take time-out
from their various activities and spend some private quality
time together in Miami. Silvia also said that Ale's latest
album is coming along fine, athough no completion or release
date has apparently been set as yet....
...and also from what Silvia has said, it might not be
advisable to start and argument with the sisters - apparently,
they are learning the art of 'kickboxing'! It is not known if
Little Frida is also taking up this noble art but, as they say,
you have been warned!!!
Silvia Pasquel herself is an accomplished actress who has
featured in many movies and television soap operas. At this
moment she is taking a break from her comedy play 'Mi Amiga La
Gorda', but she hopes to ressume her work in Mexico very
soon.
ALE ALBUMS... AND LATEST
NEWS
28th July '99 :- Yet another Ale compilation album is set
for release - street date 10th August. This time it is on the
Univesal Music Latino label and will be a 2*CD set,
concentrating mainly on her Melody years (again!) plus a few
tracks from 'Libre'. The full track listing is:-
CD 1 - Mirala Miralo, Provocacion, Cuidado con el Corazon,
Popotitos, Cuenta Conmigo, La Playa, Rosas Rojas, Buena Onda,
En el Calor de la Noche, Reina de Corazones. CD2 - La Casa del
Sol Naciente, Eternamente Bella, Hacer el Amor Con Otro, Mala
Hierba, Di Que Si Di Que No, Vivir Contra Corriente, Sin
Limites, Me Cuesta Mucho Amarte, La Gata en el Tejado, Llama
por Favor.
Perhaps better news for Ale fans is that her new album
appears to be progressing nicely. As yet untitled, it is
pencilled in for release around late September. Producers are
Oscar Lopez (who produced La Guzman) and Juan Carlos Calderon.
The album will feature a diverse range of musical styles
including hip-hop and reggie. Ale has said that a lot as been
written about her recently (some of it pure fiction) but few
people know of the emotional effect it has had on her. It is
hoped that this new album will redress that balance. (If the
album is anything like 'Cambio de Piel' then it should be a
corker!).
And speaking of the written word, Ale has spoken of her
outrage at soon-to-be ex-husband Farrel Goodman's plans to cash
in on her popularity and write a book about her. Apparently,
being married to her for about a year - much of which was spent
being detained in a German prison for drug trafficking -
qualifies him as an expert on Ale. We will see!
On a happier note, Ale has recently bought an apartment in
Miami. She has moved in with daugther Frida and is enjoying
life by the sea, enjoying the ocean breeze, fresh air and
whizzing around in her new red convertable - (Ah! the
tranquility of it all!). She is also attending gym classes and
is apparently looking great! After the traumas of recent
events, this sounds like exactly what she needs right now!
LATEST ON ALE'S
FORTHCOMING ALBUM!
2nd Aug '99 :- Ale has recorded 16 new songs for her
forthcoming but as yet to decide which of the ones will finally
make it for release. 9 of the 16 song were produced by Oscar
Lopez and the song 'Grita' (Scream) is being tipped as the
first single. She has also written one of the songs herself,
entitled 'Volare' (I Will Fly), which is about a girl who falls
in love and lives on the stars.
The cover of the album (still as yet untitled) is in the
final stages of design. She has already finished the album
shoots which will feature Ale in various types of poses, some
in funky clothes, other more natural - and apparently there is
one shot of her coming out of the oceon wearing a transparent
(wet?) dress! We can't wait!!!
It is planned to have the albums premier in either Los
Angeles or Miami. Ale also spoke of the need of having support
from her record label so that her work and the work of those
who participated in the album will be gratified.
....And the latest on her soon-to-be-annulled marriage to
Farrel Goodman - she is on the final steps to finalizing her
divorce!
L.A. CONCERT
CANCELLED!
11th Aug '99 :- Ale has been forced to cancel of concert
that was due to take place at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los
Angeles due to commitments on her long-awaited new album (which
has been pencelled in for release at the end of September).
Cancellation was sadly confirmed by Ticketmaster and the
Amphitheatre box office, despite ticket sales going very
well.
Refunds are available for ticketholders at the place where
you originally bought your ticket.
Naturally, cancellation has disappointed many Ale fans
(including Jose Centeno at the USA Homepage, who happens to
live in L.A. - Bad luck, mate! It's not the end of the world -
yet!). However, there are some dates still scheduled to go
ahead at The House of Blues in Hollywood on the 14th and 15th
of October. Fingers crossed - eh!?
NEW ALBUM 'ALGO
NATURAL'!
1st Sept '99 :- Ale's first studio in 3 years was released
this week - entitled 'Algo Natural', and is available from all
good online CD stores (it is currently listed as a 'backorder'
item at CD Universe!) The album contains 14 songs in all, among
them are the title track, 'Volare', 'Cuerpo a Cuerpo' and
'Grita'. A total track isn't available to me as yet but as soon
as they are, I will list them here as soon as possible. What I
can tell you is that the album will cover many different
musical styles such as rock, blues, ballads, r&b, and areas
she hadn't previously explored before, such as reggae and
hip-hop! Lyrically, it will chronicle many of Ale's life
experiences, both personal and professional. Reading through
this newspage and new archives '98 should give you some
indication of what to expect!
There are also 'two' new 2*CD compilation albums out at the
moment, which may be causing some confusion out there. Both
draw tracks from her years with Melody Records. However both
have different track listings. One is entitled 'Serie Millenium
21' which is out on Universal. The track listing for this is
already listed a little further down this page. The other
compilation is entitled 'Hacia El Milenio Con 21 Exitos -
released no Fonovisa. The tracks are as follows:-
CD1 - Guante de Seda, Rosas Rojas, La Cuidad Ardio, Di Que
Si Di Que No, Verano Peligroso, Hacer El Amor Con Atro, Guera,
Riena de Corazones, Sheriff, Dame tu Amor. CD2 - Satisfaccion,
Un Grito en la Noche, La Plaga, Bye Mama, Luz de Luna, Soy Tuya
Mi Amor, Popotitos, Eternamente Bella, Llama por Favor, Cuidado
Con el Corazon, Buena Onda.
