Alejandra Guzmán: Naturally Explosive!
Sep. 20, 1999 Reforma - Alejandra is back with a new album in
which she sings with maturity and her songs are a reflection of
what she has lived in the past two years.
"Algo Natural talks about the desire to live, love, and also
strong things that have happened to me in the past two years,
things that were a learning experience for me. I had to see the
good things that those experiences taught me, but it did cost me a
lot of work (pain), it was not easy"
"The album is about what people say about me, about what I've
lived, but it talks about those things in a positive way, without
resentful or negative feelings... it is a real deep cleansing of
my soul"
Oscar López and Juan Carlos Calderón were the
producers of this album. The combination of the two producers
created and album with hip hop, dance , reggae and tango rhythms,
even though López is more on the rocker side and Calderon
is known for making ballads.
"There are songs for adults, there are also songs for young
ones, there's something for everyone. I like the album because I'm
able to be diverse and I can also use the music onstage in any way
I want, it has broad ranges of rhythms and I love being able to
play with the music and my voice"
"There's a tango called '¿Por qué tengo que
amarte?', it talks about superficial love, it's like when you say:
Why do I have to love you? when we loved each other it was just a
game and that was all, bye"
- But in life one cannot be so cold, specially in love matters,
or is it possible?
"Well, in this times all of this is really hard, now that I
lived in the U.S. I realized that people don't really get
involved, now young people have their vary own individual ways,
they set their goals for their careers but they don't really
become sentimentally attached, and in a way that's good because
you don't suffer as much"
- Can you be cold and not really give get deeply sentimentally
involved?
"I cannot, even though bad stuff has happened to me, I never
stop believing in love. I wish I didn't have feelings, I want to
get them out, I want say them, but as long as you get them off
your chest and are clear about what you want, there is no reason
why they should affect you. Bad things don't stick around forever,
there is always an open window for every closed door"
Ale is probably the Mexican singer who has been involved in the
most number of scandals, some of them created by her and other by
the people around her, but Ale is still hopeful that in the
future, the press will talk about the good things in her life and
not just the negative ones.
"Last year no one in Mexico talked about my last tour, but it
was mentioned in the U.S. and I received really good reviews and
constructive criticism. I hate it when they only talk about the
negative things, they don't talk about the positive things,
because I have done many good things... but one day I will hire
someone to say good things about me (she says this with a
laugh)"
- How do you recover from all this type of scandals created
around you?
"You want me to tell you how?, I do it by being clear about
what I want and what I am, and when something happens around me,
the first thing I do is give it time, and second, well I don't
know, I give you time, I guess I get close to those I love, I
can't really give you a resolution, I really can't give you a
formula because I don't have one, it doesn't exist, but the desire
to live does exist, there exists a light, something that will
never live you alone, something superior... I really don't know
what to tell you"
"What happens is a learning experience, a step, and you have to
step over it... and if you can't, you'll stay there until you do,
and that's the point, overcoming the obstacles, there are a lot of
people who can give you a hand. You have to look for a vision that
will not degrade you, and that will not make you feel bad"
- Do you learn to live with all of this?
"No, I can't live with them, but I do learn to put them
aside... because many times you can't tell when they are with you,
not until you are freed from them... sometimes it's better to have
you enemies by your side, because when they come and surprise you,
is when things get tough on you, but you never know what's going
to happen"
Ale prefers not to talk about her love relationships and her
ongoing divorce because there are always people who take her
statements and make things seem worse.
"Why should I speak, when the news are quite heavy the way they
are, right?, I just see everything happen around me... but every
now and then I still say: Haven't I had enough?.... for example,
two years ago I used to say, stoooooop!, thank you.... but that's
when it starts pouring even harder, and you ask for it to seize,
but they don't even give you time to dry up.... but I completely
dried myself, I had enough time (She says this smiling)"
"[For the new millennium] We will start over, and we
are going to start with a really disgusting world, because that's
the way we are making it, the generation of the year 2000 is ware
of this, but not us, we have lived and seen that there are still
wars, that there are a series of political things that only get
worst, and our country does have it really bad, more than any
other places"
"But I feel that there is energy and desire in our people to
survive, this is what keeps Mexico alive and able to cope with all
the hits the country has taken in all sorts of way... you can see
this energy when we win soccer games, and when you do something,
you really show your willingness to survive"
Ale is proud of being Mexican, however, she recently purchased
an apartment in Miami Beach, she had to get away to be able to
grow as a person, but that doesn't mean she she rejects her roots.
She says that when she's over there, what she misses the most is
Mexico's food, and above all the good vibe in its people"
In the last months, Ale took advantage of her stay and bought a
whole new wardrobe, which she will us in her new concerts. New
York and Mexico were also on her shopping list.
"I also recycle things, I'm very creative; yesterday I was
cutting up some pants and I add things to them... I see magazines
and get some ideas. The make up is something that I can't really
describe, I put on temporary tattoos, I have body piercings, but
I'm getting rid of them... unlike ink, they can be removed... but
I must say I do love my tattoos, I want to get another one, I like
them in the hand, but they sure hurt horribly"
Ale is eager to start her live show, she will be start around
the end of October, but not without giving the album the
advertising it deserves.
"It's like starting all over again, and I want to do it, and
you know why?, because my last album (live) did not get consistent
promotion, there was no video.... and that's why I'm making sure I
do one for this album. It is really important for me that people
see how I'm really are deep inside"
Since she hasn't worked for a long time, she says she wants to
do a concert on new years' eve instead of going out partying with
her friends.
"I want to start working now, that's why I'm also dying to give
this album good promotion, because I've been laying around for
eight months", but the truth is that she has spent all this time
on her new album Algo Natural.
"I like to take my time, now that I'm doing things this way, I
feel more sure of myself, I'm not doing thins in a hurry, I can
take my time and meditate, I can concentrate and talk about things
that I want and like"
