ROBOTS & ELECTRONIC BRAINS

MJ Hibbett, Born with the century (Artists Against Success) 7"

First from Mark Hibbett that I really like---a more accomplished and moving version of his Billy Bragg acoustic vingettes. This time the song covers the life of a man who was born at the turn of the century, lived through both wars, loved several women and watched his kids grow up and away. It's heavy stuff (with the odd gag), the peaks and troughs of the story mirrored by the music which starts slow then bursts into life courtesy of trumpet (Rob, White Town) and militaristic drumming (Tim, Prolapse) and closes quietly as the story ends.
