Wrap yourself deeper into the metal scene of the Midwest and you will discover the hub in Minneapolis, MN, and more importantly SOMA 220. Actually residing in the soon to be suburb of Elk River, SOMA 220 has been perfecting the specific breed of metal they have twisted for five years. Performing with such up and coming acts as American Head Charge and Smakdab, Soma 220 is knocking on the door to be the next dog on the block. Consider a five man assault on the senses with an array of crippling time signatures that still drives the listener to crank the speakers. Nate on lead guitar traps a manufactured tone in style, which may only be topped in levels of intensity by his scream that you can see comes from his entire body live. Nate is backed by Troy hammering out rhythmic chugs on his guitar for the foundation of the beat for the mosh pit to follow. Lance beating his bass and compiling the rage, answers Nate in throaty, thrashing growls, making for an intense dual vocal attack. J.,follows his band mates by keeping the wrecking levels of anger and pain steady on his drums. This undermining concentration of aggression is brought to a halt by D. who carries the melodies and thickens bass lines on his keyboard giving SOMA 220 an air of beauty and layered complexity. Loyal to their calling to bring others to the level of insanity these five have achieved, they have concentrated their energy into the Minneapolis area. Efforts such as this have earned them the respect and selection for the up-coming release Midwest compilation disc on behalf of Streetwise Marketing entitled "The Midwest Movement" as well as online promotion agency DLP Records compilation "Midwest Mayhem." Not excluding any of the Midwest, SOMA 220 is willing to travel as they did when selected for Buddafest 98' and Buddafest 99' as well as club dates in Eastern Iowa and Northern MI. Also an online band, SOMA 220 is gaining virtual recognition maintaining a web site, an e-mail list numbering into the hundreds of dedicated followers, and a developing street team. They have also reached a growing international audience by posting songs off of their three song EP entitled "Starting Over" onto the web site MP3.com, each of which has marked the charts. SOMA 220 is no stranger to radio play either being well aware of the promotion, and advertising connection to their fans. Minneapolis housing 93X, holds a slot for a local metal show sees SOMA 220 requested weekly. Also, college station WMTU in Northern Michigan have been known to play SOMA 220 on a regular basis. Now heading into the studio once again, SOMA 220 is looking forward to releasing one of the most anticipated releases in the midwest by 2001. In the meantime, SOMA 220 will continue playing shows in and around the Midwest and working hard on enlarging the continually growing SOMA 220 fan base. So submit to the aggression within because... "There is nothing to wait for anymore!"
