Chapter Ten

Sidney picked up the phone and started to dial the number. She couldn't wait to hear his voice. Sidney had known Lance Bass for about 5 years and he had helped her through her hard times. She could always count on him giving his honest opinion about anything. But they had lost touch a little while ago when Lance moved to Tennessee to start his business. He was now the manager of some of the top country singers. Sidney's heart began to race as the phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Lance, it's Sidney!"

"Hey Sid, it's great to hear from you!"

"Same here, I was so surprised to see that you paged me."

"Yeah, I have some fantastic news."

"Well, what is it?"

"I'm getting married!"

"Are you kidding?! Who's the lucky girl?"

"Her name is Amber Harless, she's 21 and a student at the University of Tennessee."

"How'd you two hook up?"

"Well, I was at a talent show about a year ago on the campus and she happened to be the chairman of the event. We started talking, I asked her out and you know the rest!"

"Lance, that's wonderful! So when's the wedding?"

"It's next month here in Tennessee. Please say you'll come, it won't feel right if you're not here."

"Well, I'm supposed to be in Spain next month but what the hell, my best-friend only gets married once right?"

"That's right!"

"So, what about her family, where are they from?"

"The majority of them live right here in Tennessee."

"Very convenient...oh Lance I'm sorry I have to go."

"That's okay Sid. You've always been on demand!"

"Very funny. I'll call you later though."

"Okay, talk to you then."

"Bye."

"Bye."

Sidney hung up the phone, grabbed her keys, and rushed out the door. It was 1:00 and she had a lot to do. While driving she returned all of her pages. She made plans to meet Alexis for lunch later on so they could inform each other about their escapades of last night. Jilly went over the show's success and the day's schedule. And Theresa called to congratulate her on the show. Sidney finally arrived at her studio where Jilly was waiting for her.

"Hi Jilly, now we need to..."

"Miss Shago, she's waiting in your office," Jilly interrupted.

"Who is?"

"Kimberly Clayton. She said you were expecting her."

"No, I barely know her Jilly."

"I'll tell her to go."

"It's okay, I'll talk to her."

Sidney walked to her office to find Kimberly sitting on the couch and flipping through a magazine.

"Can I help you?"

Kimberly looked up and put the magazine aside. "Yes, you can."

"Look Miss Clayton, if this is about Justin..."

"Yeah it is about Justin."

"Nothing is going on between us if that's what you're wondering."

"So you call having sex with someone nothing?"

"How...how did you know about that?"

"It's not that difficult to figure out where he went after leaving me last night."

"But it's none of your business."

"Actually, it is because Justin and I are getting back together."

"..."

"Speechless I see, but I just wanted to tell you he's off the market now and it's going to stay that way."

"I couldn't care less."

"I'm sure."

"If that's all, do you mind leaving?"

"I was just on my way."

Kimberly grabbed her purse and left the studio. Sidney sat down in her chair as Jilly came in.

"Is everything okay?"

"Yes, Jilly, everything's fine."

"Well, there's a phone call for you on line 2."

"Thanks." Sidney picked up the phone trying to forget about Kimberly Clayton. "Hello?"

"Hey Sid."

"Hey JC, what's up?"

"Oh, nothing much, I'm just taking a break from work right now. What about you?"

"Things could be better." "So, you want to talk?"

"About what?"

"You know, you and Justin."

"God, does the whole damn world know about my sex life!"

"No, he called me earlier today really upset."

"There's nothing to talk about JC."

"He really cares about you."

"Not that much evidently."

"What do you mean?"

"I just got a visit from Miss Kimberly Clayton."

"Oh man."

"Tell me about it. Supposedly her and Justin are an item again."

"Justin hasn't told me about it."

"Yeah, well people are full of secrets JC."

"Just talk to him, for me."

"Well, fine but only for you."

"Thanks Sid."

"Yeah, you owe me big time."

"I know I know. So I'll talk to you later, okay?"

"Okay, bye."

"Bye."

Sidney hung up the phone. God, I can't believe I just agreed to that. I have nothing to say to Justin. I don't care who he's with. Sidney thought about her situation as she laid her head on her desk. She knows she can tell herself that Justin means nothing to her, but the hard part is actually believing that.
