Chapter Twenty-One

Alexis woke up to the sound of the shower running. She rolled over and saw that Joey was already up. She sat up and ran her fingers through her long blond hair. That's when it hit her, a migraine from hell. She remembered how wasted she got but she also remembered her night with Joey. She smiled despite the throbbing in her head. She laid back down and closed her eyes, hoping the pain would subside. She heard the bathroom door open and looked up as Joey walked back into the bedroom with a white towel wrapped around him as he crossed the room toward her. He sat on the edge of the bed and started to caress her face. "How do you feel?"

"Besides having a massive hangover, I feel great."

Joey smiled and leaned down to kiss her. He got back up to get dressed as Alexis watched. Around this time, she would usually find herself leaving or waking up alone. She had only been in one serious relationship and that was in highschool. She saw guys as puppets and could see no use for them besides sexual pleasure. But there was something about Joey that made her question her once firm belief. She found herself wanting to be with him all the time. He made her laugh and feel great about who she was as a person. She had heard a great deal about Joey's reputation with women but she knew he had to feel something too. She climbed out of bed and walked over to Joey. She wrapped her arms around his waist as he buttoned up his shirt. "Where are you off to?"

"I have to go to work for awhile. Do you want me to give you a ride somewhere?"

"That's okay, I'll catch a cab later."

"Will I see you tonight?" he said wrapping her in his arms.

"If that's what you want," she said smiling.

"Believe me, that's what I want!"

Joey kissed her and got ready to leave. Alexis heard the door close and got ready to take a shower. She took a quick shower and got dressed. She went into Joey's kitchen to find something to eat and that's when she heard her pager go off. She picked it up and noticed that Sidney had paged her 911 about 5 times. She picked up Joey's phone and dialed Sidney's cell phone number. It rang a few times before Sidney finally answered it. "Hello?"

"Sid, what's the emergency?"

"Lexi?"

"Yeah, what's wrong?" Alexis could tell the stress in her voice.

"I'm at the hospital."

"Oh my God, Sid are you okay? What happend?" Alexis asked getting more worried.

"There was an accident and Michelle's hurt pretty badly."

Alexis didn't say anything right away. What was Sidney telling her? She soon snapped out of it. "Where are you?"

"We're at the UCLA hospital, will you..."

"I'm on my way."

"Thanks Lexi."

"Don't worry Sid, I'll be there in 20 minutes."

"Ok, bye."

"Bye."

Alexis hung up the phone. She thought about paging Joey but decided there was nothing he could do so she just left him a note. She called a cab and ran out the door.

At the hospital, JC, Justin and Sidney were sitting in the waiting room. Sidney had went to see Michelle but could take seeing her that way. Justin held her protectively and comforted JC as well. He had to be strong for both of them. Sidney had already called Michelle's parents in St. Louis and they would be catching the next available flight out. Sidney looked over and saw how tired and tense JC looked. She got up and sat next to him. He looked her in the eyes and without her saying anything, knew what she was feeling. She forced a smile and hugged him. She stayed that way until she heard Alexis come in.

"Sid."

"Lexi..."

Alexis went over and hugged her friend. "What do they know?"

"They said she lost a lot of blood and suffered internal injuries. They've stopped the bleeding but they still don't know the extent of the damage."

"And Ty?"

"He's in recovery now but they're still watching him just in case."

Alexis looked over and saw JC bent over with his head in his hands. She decided not to disturb him right then. Justin got up and walked over to them.

"Oh, Lexi, this is Justin and Justin, this is one of my best-friends, Lexi."

"It's nice to meet you Justin. I've heard plenty about you."

Justin blushed slightly, like he always did. "Yeah, Sid talks about you all the time too."

They all sat back down and tried to have conversations to keep their minds off of the current events. They had been sitting in the waiting room for about 4 hours when a doctor finally came in. JC immediately stood up.

"What...how is she?"

The doctor looked at each of them as he prepared to deliver his final diagnosis.
