“I can’t believe the summer is over already Kae; it feels like we just graduated.”
“I know, but look at it this way Heather, we’re going to college now; we get a chance to do whatever we want to do with our lives.”
“Yeah, you have a point.”
“Just relax, this is the beginning of the rest of our lives.”
Heather and I laid back down on our towels and soaked up the sun’s rays. We were spending some of our last days of summer at Heather’s family beach house on Hilton Head Island. We have been best-friends since we were in pigtails. My family moved to Chicago from LA when I was five and I met Heather on the first day of school. We became super close instantly. When we were in junior high, we tried out for the basketball team. That’s where we met Kitten, Lindsey, and Jen. They were a little older than us but they treated us like their equals; we all became inseparable. Well, at least until they graduated. We had all agreed to go to the same college, so after discussing it for years, we decided on the University of Florida. It was a school that had exactly what we all were looking for. Heather and I couldn’t wait to see our friends again and to have things like they were before. Unbeknownst to us, this was not to be.
