Chapter Two

"Mandy, Lance is here," Mrs. Saunders yelled up the stairs.

"Ok, I'll be right there Mother."

Mandy checked herself again in her mirror. She had been with her boyfriend Lance for almost 2 years now. Even with all of the drama going on around them, she was always happy when she was with him. She hurried downstairs and saw Lance sitting in the living room with her mom. He was always a gentleman and Mandy's parents adored him. Lance saw Mandy and smiled. He excused himself and walked over to her. He was going to embrace her but he noticed Mandy's smile fade.

"Lance, what happened to your face?!" Mandy gently touched the bruise along Lance's cheek.

"It's nothing."

"Tell me!"

"Joey and I were on our way home last night when we saw Justin."

"And?"

"He was in a fight with 4 Nazis. We had to help him."

Mandy sighed and walked out of the house. Lance stood there for a second, said goodbye to Mrs. Saunders and then ran after Mandy. He finally caught up to her and turned her around. "What is it?"

"I don't like it when you get involved with the Nazis no matter what the cause."

"So you just wanted me to leave my friend to the slaughter?" Lance said raising his voice a little.

"No...I don't know..." Mandy looked down. Lance pulled her to him and Mandy buried her face in his jacket. "I just don't want anything to happen to you Lance...I don't know what I'd do."

"I know. I'm sorry."

Lance held Mandy for a while longer. They then started on their way to the cafe where they all met on Saturday afternoons. "I'm sorry Joseph, Suzanne is visiting her grandmother."

"Oh, I forgot."

"But she should be back this evening if you would like to stop by then."

"Okay, thank you Mrs. Harris." Joseph hung up the phone. His girlfriend, Suzanne, was visiting her grandmother in Munich. She had been gone for 2 days but to Joey it felt like 2 months. He snapped out of it when his 6 year old sister came running in his room. She jumped on his bed and sat beside him. "How's it going princess?" Joey said sitting his sister on his knee.

"Mommy's taking me to the park, will you come too?"

"I can't today sweetie. I have to meet with my friends, but I promise I'll go next time."

"Okay!" Joey kissed her forehead and she ran out the room. Joey got up and prepared to leave and go the the cafe.

Josh was in his living room helping his brother with his homework when he heard the phone ring.

"Joshua, the phone is for you," his mom yelled from the kitchen.

"Okay, Momma." Josh picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Josh, are you coming?"

"Justin? Are you okay?"

"Uh, yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"

"Joey told me about last night."

"Yeah, I'm fine but I can't say the same for those Nazis."

"You're not invincible Justin. You have to be more careful."

"But we won Josh."

"This time. What if Lance and Joey hadn't come along, what then?" Josh sighed. There was no point in arguing with Justin, he never listened. Josh had to try though. Justin was like a brother to him and he cared about him.

"Relax Josh, I'll be careful next time, okay?"

"Okay."

"So are you coming?"

"Yeah, I'll meet you guys there in a bit."

"Okay, see you then."

"Bye." Josh hung up the phone.

"Is everything okay Joshua?" Josh turned around to see his mother looking at him with a worried look on her face. "Everything's fine Momma," Josh said hugging her. He kissed her cheek and got ready to leave.

The whole incident with Justin was bugging him but he soon forgot about it when he saw Samantha walking down the street toward him. "Samantha?"

"Josh." "Hi, what're you doing on this side of town."

"Oh, well I..." she said looking at the ground.

"What is it?"

"I was coming to visit you. Vicky gave me your address."

"You were coming to see me?"

"I know, I'm so embarressed."

Josh smiled as he saw Sam's cheeks get red. "It's okay, I was planning on stopping by your place too."

Samantha looked back up. "Really?"

"Yeah. Would you like to have lunch with me and my friends?"

"Sure, I'd love to."

Josh and Samantha started walking to the cafe. Josh took a hold of Samantha's hand as they walked. Samantha looked at him and smiled.
