Elyse's September 29, 1999 Philadelphia BSB Concert Review!

Getting Ready:
Ok, like, the whole day at school I was SOOO Excited, it wasn't even funny. I got home at like 3 pm and we were leaving at 4 pm. As soon as I got home I was supposed to do my homework, but I didn't. I was calling my friends and getting our final plans ready. My friends were Tanya (really big AJ fan) and Katie (likes Brian almost as much as I do). Tanya got to my house at like 3:10, Katie 'bout 3:20. For the 40 minutes we were ironing on patches onto tank tops. Katie made these little iron on patches, they were like stars with the guys name in it. Me and Katie had B-Rok, Tanya had Bone. We wore the tank tops over 3-quarter length t-shirts of the guys' fave color. WE finally got in the car 'round 4. My mom drove us to someplace called Pennington where we met my dad. We got there 'round 5 and from there it took us another hr. to get to Philly. So on the way there we were taking those little series cards and putting them all over my dad's windows and we made 2 signs that said HONK IF YOU LOVE BSB. Like 1 person honked.
At the Arena:
We got to the arena at like 6 and the Q102 bus was there and that just got me really excited. We hit the merchandise stand first. I bought one of those little lanyard things that say 1999 World Tour on the pic and stuff like that ($20, the 1998 one I bought last year was $15) and a tour book ($20, last year was $15). So, I had only $6 left. Then we went around the corner and got a perfect spot by the fence were their buses were. It was right by the backstage place. This was still outside, they weren't letting people in 'till 6:30. So, we kept watching for them. We heard a bunch of screams, but the even staff lady said it wasn't them. There were so many girls that one backstage passes from SEARS going through we kept telling them to tell the boys we said hi. We saw them walk around and turn a corner and then we heard the loudest screams. We were like, they met them! Ok, then we saw this big crowd gathering 'round a guy with a camera. It was ABC 6 and the newscaster lady was there. I got right to the front of the group so I could be on camera and the guy moved so I was like right next to him and couldn't get on. I made some new friends and we talked 'bout the boys and stuff and we like, "ON the count of 3 everybody sing Larger than Life." so we go 1, 2, 3, and only me and the girl and like 1 other person started singing. She was like, "Some Backstreet Fans you are." At that point the camera men kept telling us to be quiet. Even though he kept saying that, my friend out of nowhere screams, "I LOVE AJ!!!" and that gets everybody screaming and this guy is like SHUT-UP. Then he starts moving his hand like it's ok to scream and we all went crazy. So, at least my voice was on TV. I shoulded "I LOVE BRIAN!!" at the top of my lungs. Finally when they were done we got in our line to go inside.
Getting into the Place:
We had to get in a special line 'cuz we got box seats, more details coming soon. And one of the friends I made came with us even though. So, she had a shortcut to her section (214) by taking an elevator. I feel sorry for her, she was all by herself. WE started talking and she was li,e "Did you see Brian?" I was like, "Was that was the screams were about? The lady said nobody was there." And she said yeah and she got pics of him and gave me her e-mail address so she can send them to me. Anyway, we got onto our SUITE LEVEL floor and we were in box 6 and the suites started at box like 70, we had a long way to go. We kept looking into the other boxes and we were so freaked at how close they were! Then, we made it to ours. Inside there was a couch, recliners, bar, bar stools, buffet, TV, private bathroom, everything. Then we saw it! The glass doors. We were in such a rush I almost broke the dour getting to our balcony. We were the first ones in the box, so we claimed the first row. OMG, WE HAD THE MOST AMAZING VIEW!!! We had a better view than the floor, 1st level, adn 2nd level. 'Cuz we were so close (practically the 1st level) and we could actually see the stage. Most people on the first and floor couldn't even see half. That's what made us go into screaming frenzy. WE were hugging each other and thanking my dad. He got us the tickets for free from one of his co-workers and that dude also gave some to some other people. They came later. Then, we get our own waitress bringing us out Pepsi, water, pizza, everything. WE WERE HAVING A BLAST!!! Then, I saw Tommy Smith checking out the keyboard and everything, making sure its alright (I saw Guido too). Once he got off the stage (he didn't go under it like everybody else did, he went through a regular exit) like 10 girls started chasing him.
Opening Acts:
Ok, a little after 7:30 Mandy Moore came on. She was really good, she's got a nice voice and stuff. She ended at like 8. Then EYC came on like 5 minutes later and THEY SUCKED!!! They were so boring. It was the same stuff over and over again. Pelvis thrust, take off shirt, do some sexy moves. Their sexy stuff was worse than AJ's, they gotta remember there are like 4-year-olds in the audience. They ended at like 8:30. I was thinking, BSB's gonna be on any minute now, but I really had to go the bathroom. So, I made a rush for it, and some other guy got there right before me and I was like, HURRY UP!!! So, finally I went and rushed and everything. Private bathrooms come in handy, and got back to my seat. Turns out i was nervous over nothing, they didn't come out till like 1/2 hour after I was done.
Making the Fans get REALLY Mad:
Ok, there was like this big black box somewhere on the first level and I guess this bald old guy decided, "Let's make the 25,000 teenagers go crazy." So, he started throwing out toys and keychains and stuff intot he crowd. Everybody who couldn't see into the boys was like, "OMG, it's NICK!! NO, AJ!!" WE could see into it from our seats adn we like, "Sorry, none of them are old and bald." He was doing this for like 20 minutes. The whole time they were playing that creepy Everybody music from the beginning of the video. Now, in that whole like 45 min. waiting for the boys tog et on stage, it was either getting louder or more annoing we couldn't decide. Finally, the SEARS Commercial came on. Then the lights started to dim, EVERYBODY WAS SO EXCITED!!!
The SHOW:
I loved how they had the dancers come out with torches and light up the stage, that looked so cool. And then the smoke rose and the guys came out on their little surfboards out the black box and they like joined hands like skydivers do and floated over to the stage. Then they just like stood still, showed a close-up of Kev's face (he looked sooo hot!!) and he nodded, they did an about-face and did it again. Finally, they got to our side, he nodded and and Larger than Life started. OMG, it was awesome!! We were all singing and dancing and everything! Then they did GEt Down and The One and started their introductions. NIck's was sooo long. I forget what they did after that. Oh, I think it was As Long as you Love Me, I'm not sure. Then they went benath the stage for a costume change. I loved the costume changes this time! Last year they were liek 10 min. after like every 3 songs. This year it was like 1 minute after various number of songs while the band played some intsrumentals to keep everybody from not being bored. I kept screaming for tommy. When they did Quit Playing Games every other line, Brian was like, "You Sing!" but he did it s o funny. He scrunched up his face and did it in a funny voice, he was hilaroius. When they started flying, we had AJ and Howie rgith by us. Howie and Kev were having too much fun, kept doing flips. H kept going back to the stage for more roses. AJ was like hanging by his feet the whole time throwing stuffed animals into the crowd. Brian was just chilling, he was so scared! Not sure 'bout NIck, I wasn't paying much attention to him the whle concert. When Brian landed they showed a close-up of him on the screen and he put his hands like he was praying and like under his breath said Thank You. It was so cute! Um, when they did Don't Want You Back AJ was having too much fun with his pole, He was like hanging upside down from it and like humping it. Brian was the first one on his. He just sat there all cute singing. NOt sure what was up with the other guys, I wasn't paying attention. We mostly had AJ on our side the whole concert. Let's see, I loved the Don't Wanna Lose You Now, No One Else Comes Close, and I'll NEver Break Your Heart medley and at the last one they started spinning around their little platform. Back to YOur Heart, Kevin did his own little solo then started playing the song on the piano while they other guys sat on the stage and sang. Howie was preoccupied with stuffed animals during that. Guess 'cuz they were all staying in the same spot and the girls kept throwin 'em up during that. He was having fun. Oh, The Perfect Fan was so cute. 'Cept they should've walked the moms 'round the stage instead of the girls. Or walked both of 'em around. The little girl with Kevin was so cute, she was like 7 and she's the only one that was actually broadcasted on the screen. She couldn't remember her mom's name, she was so nervous. I think the other guys were talking to their girls and moms, but they didn't show it, they were doing it while Kevin was talking. Let's see, The little Everybody, We've Got It Goin' On and and that's the Way I Like It medley was good. They changed the dances for WGIGO and TTWILI. All I have to Give-Get rid of the pink suits, they're disgusting. OK, for most of that one I couldn't tell which one was which 'cuz the hats were like covering them and AJ was acutally wearing the same thing as the other guys. Show Me the Meaning as REALLY good. Oh, I loved how during IT's Gotta Be You they all came out in their choice of really comfortable clothes. Bri looked the cutest. He was weraing baggy cargo pants, a red and white long-sleeved shirt with a hood, and a red baseball cap. Then the dance off was really cool!! Howie started rapping!! Nick said it's the new rapper from Wannabe a Rapper Records his name was M.C.D. it was so cute!! Then at like the last dance off thing where the girl and guy Kev (I think) introduced (plus Dennis), Brian and AJ were on the little platform in the middle and Brian had his back towards us. During like the whole dance he was like bent over a little and wiggling his butt. It was soooo cute!! My friend got
a really good close up of that, I'll send it to y'all. And, last, I Want it That Way was real good. When Nick went, "Don't wanna hear ya!!" Everybody started doing the little whine, it was soo cool. Then during like the whole ending of the song and when they were all saying thank yous, Howie was walking aroudnt he whole crowd shaking hands, he had to have like 5 bodyguards withhim. And he was wearing this black wifebeater,he looked so good!
After the Show:
When we got downstairs I went back to the merchandise stand. I got this like 8"x10" photo (it was like real photo paper too) collage of the concerts. It's really hot, it was only $5 I also got a keychain that saysBackstreet Boys with the tour book cover pic on the front and Into the Millennium Tour with the tour book back pic on the back (if anybody hasn't seen that pic, you have to, it's from behind and Nick's like jumping in the air, his butt looks so big. I'm not making fun, but it's just funny. Ohyeah, and you can tell that AJ has no butt in that pic) which was $5 and the postcard pack with 6 postcards for $10. On the way out, we had to take down our pics to roll down the windows. And we started screaming, "Backstreet Boys rule!!!" and then we pulled up next to this other car and held up our sign. I don't think they could read it 'cuz it was in highlighter and it was dark out, and they held up a sign that said HONK IF YOU LOVE BSB so we honked and everybody went crazy!!
Other Stuff:
I had a blast!! I'm sorry this is sooo long, but I just wanna tell y'all what I did! Whoever's going soon, you're going to have so much fun!! I think that's about all I wanted to tell you!
