Janie's February 29, 2000 Houston, TX BSB Concert Review

~*I was in the first row! The very very front row! Beyond awesome! AND I now have a newfound love for Nick.....can we all scream "SEXY"?!?!?!??! (If you can't, I'm doing it for you!) *Screams* SEXXXXXXYYYYYYYY!!!!!! My gosh, I can't even count the times he left me there drooling! Well, here's my little story of my Backstreet Boys concert adventure.*~

First off, I'm in College Station, so I had an hour drive to get to Houston. I get to Houston, and I'm there driving around on those "I must've done something really bad in a past life to have to endure this" freeways. I was lost for an hour and a half before I finally found my hotel. Dude, Houston is HUGE...I was just like, "I am never going to get to my damn concert." (about to have a heart attack) :o)

Anyways, I get to the hotel, and then find out that the person who I'm buying the front row ticket from is in Pearland, TX...20 minutes outside Houston from where I'm at. I start yet another journey on the "highways from hell" to get the precious ticket that will allow me access to my front row seat. Time to cut to the chase...my concert!

I get to the concert, and at the door the security guard tearing tickets sees my purse and asks me if I have a camera. Now, I seriously didn't know cameras weren't allowed. For the first Millenium tour, I had gone to the Colorado and Lexington, KY concerts, and the Kentucky concert tickets outright said "NO CAMERAS OR VIDEOCAMERAS ALLOWED". So, I figured if they weren't allowed, it would say so on the ticket. *error buzz* "Try again!" Anyways, I tell him, "Yes, I have a camera," and he shakes his head. I had the most lost and confused look on my face when he told me that they weren't allowed. I told him that it didn't specify on the ticket that cameras weren't allowed the way it had on previous ones so that I really didn't know. He let me take it in, but warned me if anyone saw, they would pick it up.

Now, there's one flaw for sitting front row....security is right there at least 4 seats away facing you and they see everything. My security guard was being a dick and told me to put my camera away. I begged and pleaded to no avail. So, of course, something had to go wrong. (something always does for me) I couldn't believe I wasn't going to be able to take pictures. I didn't let it get me completely down, though. I was up there, front row, able to check out nose hairs if I wanted (I know it's gross, but, hey, trying to give visuals!) *LOL* and I figured, well, at least I can see the whole show. The other shows I got really good pictures for anyway, because I was always lower level and within the first 10 rows. (and I used a zoom in camera) so I was never just relaxing watching the show. I was always snapping away. And that was the other bad thing, front row, zoom in camera, opportunity for some bad ass pictures....but b/c of some stupid no camera rule, there would be no bad ass pictures....or so I thought. I'll get to that later.

I went alone because no one was crazy enough to pay what I paid for my ticket, so when I got to the concert I made sure to make friends with the girls next to me....concerts are so much more fun when you have people to yell and go crazy with. Now, for my review!

Two black rappers opened for them first. They had on some Coca Cola Hawaii looking shirts, and they were hilarious! They kept cracking me up. I hope their intention was to make people laugh, cuz that's all they were doing to me!

Well, soon after, Mandah, or so she called herself at the concert, "Willa", opened up for the guys. And for those of you lost souls who do not know who this girl is by now, she's Nicky boy's girlfriend. (or for those of you who are in a deep depression of denial, ex-girlfriend) She only did like 3 or 4 songs, but I have to give the girl mad props. She kicked ass on her dancing. Like, Britney Spears dancing. She was really good, but the only thing was when she would yell into the crowd stuff like, "Are ya'll ready for the Backstreet Boys?" or "scream!" or something like that it was really high and kinda annoying. She sang live, no lipsynching, as I had heard she did, and she sounded kinda good. Not Christina Aguilera good, but Britney Spears good. You know how Britney Spears can sing where you can stand it, but it's not like super great, or to where you know that they have the potential to be around a long time? BUT, she can sing live, unlike Ms. Britney Spears. (no hate mail...that's my opinion)

Now, for the boys! AWESOME!!! They came in decked out in some new outfits that were different from the first part of the tour. (looking gorgeous of course) When they walked to our side of the stage, Kevin looked over the crowd and the front row and we were going nuts! He did this little half smile that was sooooo cute! (trying not to drop dead here) The show started and they ran around doing their stuff! (and doing it well) I had Nick and Kevin mostly on my side. (no complaining....they're my two faves)

The HIGHLIGHT of my concert was when Kevin was getting harnessed so that they he could take off and play Superman for a couple of minutes. He sat down about two chairs away from me on the edge of the stage. I couldn't believe how close I was to him!!!! I started waving my sign around like crazy to him, and he did a little double take after he read it and started laughing! Aaaaah....I totally went nuts! Then he was raised into the air! OH, my sign read, "Let me ride the Train! Ha! Ha!" and it had a big smiley face on it. For those who don't know, Kevin's nickname is Train. If you don't understand why that sign is funny, then you're too young to know! *hee hee*

Lionol Richie came out! Now, I have no idea what he sings, but I know he was (maybe still is with older people) really really huge at one time! Someone that all young musicians and singers respect! The guys were so cute. When they finished with Lionol Richie, they started bowing and raising their hands up and down for him, like he was a god or something!

Brian came to our side and was singing a little, so me and the other two girls I was with started waving and screaming like crazy, and he waved and smiled at us. *sighs* I swear, if I was any older than 20, I would've died because my heart would not have been able to take all the excitement! :) (Yup, I'm 20...I bet I sound like 12, huh?) It's okay! The Backstreet Boys get me all giddy like that! :oP

Well, the guys go down to change, and up comes Nick to say his thank you's. He asked, "Hey, have you guys noticed anything different?" The crowd starts going crazy, and he points to a group on lower level behind me. He said, "Oh, so you noticed?" I turn around to see them, and they're all messing with their hair. I was like, "What?" Then Nick said, "Yeah, I got a haircut...how do you all like it?" (then I clicked) We all started screaming like crazy. He then said, "Well, I can't tell if that's bad or good. Do you all like it?" More crazy yells. He then said, "Well, good, cuz I think I might keep it around for awhile." He then said his thank yous and I don't remember what else...everything was like a blur! (I'm happy I remember this much!) Then came AJ...he just basically said for us to scream obnoxiously through the whole show....then came Howie...don't remember what he said...then Brian...he said "What's up? Are ya'll having fun?" Then he said his thank you's, and then my babe came out! Kevin!!! *long sigh* But he didn't really say much. The same thing basically. The only one who really talked was Nick. Not that anyone minded! :)

During the Perfect Fan, Brian was such a sweetheart. He was there making funny faces and making the little girl he had with him crack up. She was so cute. He gave her one of the stuffed animals that was onstage. Ummm...what else? I TOUCHED HOWIE'S HAND! He was the only one to come down onto the floor, and he had a security guard with him, and I touched his hand! It was sweaty, but that's ok! :)

During the Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely and Spanish Eyes songs are where Nick forced me to do a double take on him. He was dancing in front of us, and he was sooooo sexy. He was so into the song. He was dancing so provocatively with his dancer...I mean, if I didn't think he was with Mandy, mandah, or whoever she feels like being today, I would've thought that they (he and the dancer) were together or something. But then they switched dancers and he danced the same way with the other girl. I was just like, "I now want to be a dancer for the Backstreet Boys. Who needs college?" *LOL*

I was so impressed by Nick....I've never seen him get into a performance the way he did at that concert. I've never seen him like that from any of the past concerts I've been to or the ones I've seen on video. He was thrusting, (which I know he normally does, but more than usual) and getting so into his performance. On the chair routine he did this slick move that was all his own because the other guys didn't do it...when he jumped into the air to jump over the chair, he ripped his jacket off with one quick move. I was like, "Wow...you go, boy!" *hee hee* He actually messed up, too, though! On the hat routine he dropped it. He picked it up and did this really cute smile, like "oops!" I only saw the smile cuz he was kinda turned on the side. They did the hat routine on my right side on the stage, so I could only see their backs. On the slow songs when they're in the middle and the little thing starts to turn in a circle, he was so into it. You know how they have the mic stand in front of them? Well, he grabbed his mic stand, ripped the mic off, and banged the stand into the floor...all of it in tune with the beat of the music. He certainly got my attention, in case anyone cares, which I'm sure no one does, but I'm telling you anyway... that is why Nick has suddenly become one of high high favorites...he's almost passing Kevin! (and that's high!)

Now, for the other good point of my evening. It was towards the end of the show, so I begged the security guard to please let me take pics. I showed him the camera, told him how much I'd spent, how much I spent on the concert, and I was like, "C'mon, there's only 15-20 minutes left....puh-lease???" I was whining, complaining, flirting, giving puppy dog looks...the whole nine yards and then some. He sighed and told me to go ahead. I was so happy. I actually hugged him!!! *LOL* I got 50 pictures, and with my zoom in camera, they are awesome!

Well, I've talked enough....all in all, the show was awesome. It certainly outdid the other 3 I've gone to, and I can't wait for the next time! :) Here's a pic from my concert for all the blabbing!

Smiles,
Janie :)
