Don't jump to conclusions

Mandy was his first real love, there was no denying that. Mandy taught him what it was like to feel so strongly for a person that you were blind to their faults, and you would gladly die for them. There were many happy times in the beginning, and thinking of these memories made Nick sad. He then began to recall the recent memories…in which nothing but anger and hurt were felt.

Nick got out of the shower and threw on some jeans and a jersey. He walked over to his phone, by his bed and dialled Brian’s home..no answer.
That’s weird where would he be?” Nick thought, puzzled. Then a large grin spread across his handsome face. He reached over for his phone book, picked the phone up again and dialled Becca and Cassidy’s number.

Brian and Becca had arrived home at 3:30 that morning. Becca had invited him in but with no intention other than to fall asleep in his arms.

Brian rolled over and opened his eyes to reveal Becca’s smiling face as she softly stroked his hair.
“Morning……” Brian leaned up and kissed the tip of Becca’s nose.
“Morning handsome,” She smiled back.
“I had the most amazing dream….”Brian laid back down in Becca’s arms.
“Mmmm me too….” Becca said quietly and kissed Brian’s forehead. Kissing her way down to his lips.

RING RING

“Hmmm….wake up call Bec?” Brian laughed as Becca reached over to grab the cordless phone that was sitting on her dresser.
“Whatever Bri…..Hello?” Becca answered.
“Hey Bec it’s Nick…..Bri wouldn’t happen to be there would he?” Nick laughed.
“Yeah hang on he’s just here….” Becca replied.

“Oh why does that not surprise me...” Nick grinned as Becca handed the phone to Brian.
“What was that Nick?” Brian asked as he took the phone off Becca.
“Nothin’. So what are we doing today?” Nick asked.

“Hmmm…..well we've got to get our suits and stuff for tomorrow night….” Brian remembered.
“Ummm…..tomorrow?” Nick replied slowly, drawing a complete blank.
“Oh nothing special…..just the dinner party for the universal wide release of our new single…no biggie…”Brian answered sarcastically.

“Oh shit, that's tomorrow?!” Nick almost choked.
“Sure is….so I guess we’d better go shopping huh?” Brian laughed.
“I’m guessing so. Anyway are you bringing Becca as you’re date?” Nick asked, wanting the latest on his best bud and the new girl.

“Well yeah…if she hasn’t got anything planned of course…”Brian smiled as Becca’s eyes went wide as she nodded her head.
“Cool…” Nick sighed wondering if he was gonna have to go dateless.
“Can Mandy make it?” Brian asked less than enthused.
“I wouldn’t know…her schedule isn’t exactly any of my business any more…” Nick said quietly.
“What happened??” Brian replied shocked.
“I ended it last night…” Nick replied.
“Well I gotta say bro…..congratulations..you’ve gotta know that you did the right thing..” Brian supported.
“Yeah….I…feel pretty good…relieved…and right now I’m thinking of asking Cassidy to the dinner…” Nick smiled.
“Uhhh Cassidy??…Umm…that’s err…good…” Brian looked out Becca’s kitchen doorway at the sight of Cassidy laying asleep next to Kevin on the couch, not knowing whether to tell his friend.
“Yeah I think so! Alright I’m on my way over and we can go shopping for tomorrow night...” Nick laughed.
“Ok Nick…cya soon….” Brian called form the kitchen.

“Nick’s on his way over..” Brian told her distractedly.

“What’s up Brian?” Becca asked concerned as Brian came in and sat on the kitchen bench with a serious expression on his face.
“Nick dumped Mandy…” Brian said.
“That’s a good thing right?” Becca asked confused.
“Yeah and he wants to ask Cassidy to the dinner...” Brian concluded.
“Oh that’s great! Cassidy will flip..” Becca smiled genuinely happy for her friend.
“Ummm Becca have you seen who is asleep with Kevin on your couch…” Brian said dryly.
“What?!” Rebecca hadn’t been in her loungeroom since they’d come home, and when her and Brian had come in it was dark and they were ‘too busy’ making out to turn on the light. Rebecca giggled at the memory.
“Go look…” Brian said not smiling.
Rebecca exited the kitchen and walked into the loungeroom where her mouth immediately fell open. She walked back in the kitchen a little shocked to say the least.
“We shouldn’t jump to conclusions…” Becca warned him.
“She told me she didn’t like him!” Becca asked herself confused.

“Yeah I guess so…but I thought she liked Nick…” Brian asked buttering a piece of toast.
“She does…” Becca shrugged.

Just then Nick and AJ walked through the front door. They stopped to notice Kevin and Cassidy on the couch.
“Go Kev....” AJ whistled as he quickly gave Becca a hug and began talking to her about the party the next night. Nick just stood there with a shocked expression on his face.
“Why didn’t you fucking tell me Brian??” Nick hissed at Brian who was sitting on the bench with a guilty expression on his face.
“Nick…I didn’t…well…you don’t know that they ‘did’ anything!” Brian tried to explain.
“Cut the bullshit Bri…you knew I had every intention of asking Cassidy to the dinner tonight when I came over here and you didn’t even have the guts to tell me that she was asleep with Kevin on the couch!?”
“What’s wrong Nick?” Becca and AJ turned around unaware of his and Brian’s previous conversation.
“Nothing…look something’s come up…”I’ll see you later..” Nick waved to Becca and left.
“Hmmm…ok…” Becca looked at Brian confused.

Cassidy stirred and looked up at Kevin who was still sleeping next to her. Her head pounded as she tried to remember last night…nothing really came clearly.
She looked around at the room and discovered two bottles of Jack Daniels. She looked at Kevin.

“Hmmmm…”

She then continued to look at herself.
“Clothes are still on, Kevin’s clothes are still on, no whipped cream……I think we’re pretty safe...” She laughed to herself and nudged Kevin gently.

“Wake up sleepy head!” Cassidy laughed. Kevin’s eyes slowly opened and he smiled.
Kevin looked up at Cassidy’s smiling face above him….her long hair tickled his chin.
“Where’s the coffee?” Kevin said wearily. They both got up off the couch and walked into the kitchen sitting at the large wooden table.
“Well well well…..you two look a little tired….late night last night by any chance?” AJ smirked as Brian watched their faces intently.
“It’s not like that AJ…” Cassidy said sleepily.
“Completely innocent..." Kevin yawned.
“Are you sure….” AJ grinned suspiciously.
“AJ! Don’t make come over there and beat it into you!” Cassidy said not wanting AJ or anyone else getting the wrong ideas about Kevin and herself.
Brian silently breathed a sigh of relief. “Nick doesn’t have anything to worry about…” He thought to himself.

“Well are we still going shopping today? Seeing as Nick’s taken off…” Becca asked.
“Nick was here before?” Cassidy asked a little bit too eagerly. Kevin looked at her surprised.
“Yeah he just left…” Becca replied smiling.
“Oh..” Cassidy said quietly.

”Great! Nick probably saw me asleep with Kevin and got the wrong idea…” Cassidy thought to herself.

“Well I’m up for some serious shopping!” AJ exclaimed.
Cassidy and Becca both started laughing.
“What!?” AJ asked innocently.
“We thought only girls liked shopping!!” Becca explained.
“Are you calling me a girl Rebecca?” AJ asked in mock shock.

“Of course not! What are you talking about!” Becca teased.
“Anyways I think I’ve missed something. Are we going shopping today?” Cassidy asked rubbing her pounding head.
“Sure are sleepy head..” Becca started.
“We’ve got to go shopping for something formal to wear tomorrow night…..I almost forgot!” Kevin informed Cassidy.
“Sorry….tomorrow night?!?” Cassidy asked, still not following.
AJ smiled.
“That’s alright….we’ll be patient with you’re ‘hangover doughiness’..” AJ laughed.
“Jive is having a dinner party for the release of "The One"." AJ filled her in.
“Well I’ve got my date!” Brian grinned and wrapped his arm around Becca.
Cassidy was happy for her friend but a little upset that she wasn’t going.
“Why are you looking so glum?” Kevin asked her amused.
“It just sounds like such an awesome party…” Cassidy added quietly.
“Yeah you betcha…and you’re coming with me missy…’cause I’m a big loser and can't get a date!” Kevin laughed.
Cassidy smiled, but it soon faded.
"But Mandy’s probably going with Nick, and I don’t think I’m her favourite person at the moment…” Cassidy said disheartened.
“Umm….well…another thing guys..Nick broke it off with Mandy last night..” Brian informed them excited.
“Oh thank God!” AJ exclaimed.
“Seriously??” Kevin asked.
“Uhuh…” Brian nodded.
Becca saw Cassidy’s face light up with the news.
“Here’s your chance…” Becca whispered into Cassidy’s ear. Cassidy smiled and shook her head.
“Well are we all nearly ready to go?” Brian asked.
“Yeah!” AJ answered.
Cassidy noticed the silver ring on Becca’s middle finger.
“Well, that's new...” Cassidy thought to herself. Becca noticed Cassidy’s curious look and smiled.
“I’ll tell you later…” Becca whispered.
