Again, this is a story about the Monkees concert I went to July 25, 1997 in Kingsport, TN. This comes directly from my journal and I'm not changing anything. However, anything I comment on will be preceded by (NOTE:)
Well, the concert started at about 9:00 pm (Yeah, I had my "Mike Hat" on and was ready to rock). It started with Micky, Davy, and Peter coming out on stage to the theme song.
*Wardrobe*
Micky was weraing a white tee, with a green button up shirt over it like a short sleeve jacket, with black jeans. And, he actually threw his sweaty shirt out into the crowd! Sweat from Micky...ooooh! But, it was thrown to the other side of the crowd and he didn't sweat up the new one.
Peter was wearing white jeans, a white with black and gold design shirt, and black boots. Plus, he was sporting a beard.
Now, Davy changed about 4 times! He came out with a vest worn as a shirt and dark jeans, then he came out with the '97 tour tee with the yello logo and white jeans and a hat with a silver star on it. He threw it into our side of the crowd. If no one had been in front of us and me, Jessi, Sarah, or Missy dove, we woulda got that hat! (NOTE: I actually said "It's just Davy." *kicks herself*) Then he added a vest and sombrero over that for his maraca playing. Then (this is weird!) he came out [to the song "Valleri"] wearing tight tie dye pants and a marching band jacket shirt (it showed his gut a bit), an Elvis wig, white feather boa, and sunglasses. Wierd huh? (NOTE: "It's just Davy.") For the rest of the time he wore the concert tour shirt with the logo in red and reddish orange shorts--no hat.
*Songs*
Here are all the songs I remember...."(Theme from)The Monkees," "Shades of Grey," "Valleri," "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You," "I Wanna Be Free," "Last Train to Clarksville," "That Was Then, This is Now," "Words," "Goin' Down," "Heart and Soul," "Porpoise Song," "I Believe You," "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher" (with Peter playing the banjo), "The Girl I Knew Somewhere," "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone," "Randy Scouse Git," "Daydream Believer," "Girl," and some song Mikcy sang during his days in his band before the Monkees (as he called it, his Pre Monkee Stage or P.M.S. song!), "I'm a Believer," and the song Jimi Hendrix played opening for the Monkees, etc. Now I did leave 2 out, "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Listen to the Band." Those and "The Girl I Knew Somewhere: are the songs Mike sang on that you could really hear him. "Listen to the Band" he is lead singer! Micky and Peter did OK on singing his parts, but they needed Mike. Oh well, you can't win them all.
*People*
We met really cool people. One girl we met while waiting for the show to start. She was really nice. Her fave was Micky. During the concert we met 4 people from St. Paul (NOTE: Not too far from Honaker, ok). Their fave was Micky! (Lotta Micky lovers.) They took pics for Jessi, cause she's too short and I wasn't in as good of position as her and those girls.
*Photo Op's*
Oh, man! If the film develops all right, we'll have great pics. See, Davy and Peter and Micky came over to our section a lot. But, one of the best pics is one of Micky on the tympani during "Randy Scouse Git." Jessi wants that one on a shirt! I hope it turns out ok. (NOTE: It did turn out, as did the others, but I'm scannerless.)
*Lasting Memories of the Whole Thing*
Well, the backup musicians were good, but Micky, Davy, and Peter were great. Jessi swears Micky made eye contact with her. Sarah claims Peter made eye contact with her. During one of my several scream-leads for Peter (he's my second fave) I swear Peter raised his hand and made eye contact in recognition of me! Um...Micky on the tympani druing "RSG" and Micky dancing in between tympani parts rocked. And especially, Micky, Davy, and Peter doing the Monkee walk! That needed Mike too. Even though Mike wasn't there, a lot of people miss him, especially me! If he made a suprise showup...first, I'd scream then faint! But, it wasn't meant to be. Well, basically every bit of the concert I loved. Seeing them has been my dream. I'm 3/4 fulfilled. Now, I need to see Mike. Maybe one day I will see in person. But for now, hey, 3 out of 4 ain't bad!
