Heart Rockin' Number!

Unlike other boybands who favour making late grand & late entrances,

911 arrive for the LIME interview a good 10 mins ahead of schedule.

Clamping into our photo studio, the cheery trio greet me with a big-grin

hellos, bear hugs & oooh, a peck on the cheek !

Accompanied by their manager, record company rep & a crowed of fans,

911-ers, Spike Dawbarn, Lee Brennan & Jimmy Constable,

clad in signature football jerseys & baggy pants, are much smaller

than I expected-all three are no more than 5'5'' !

SpikeWhile I'm trying to disguise my surprise, somebody starts

taking orders for a McDonald lunch. Seems the boys have

yet to be fed. Thinking fast, I fish out a pack of Pick &

Mix sweets & offer it around ceremoniously. Having read

somewhere that Spike can't resist those candy cola

bottles, I slyly nudge some his way. He's surprised &

pleased but decides to save it for after lunch.

Pulling the boys aside for a quick chat, I learn that they touched down the night

before to a huge fan reception at the airport. The next 3 days are packed full

with press interviews, radio shows & performances.

911 fans, you probably know by now the significance of their name. For the

record, here it is again. Explains Lee: " It's the emergency number in the US, so

everybody knows it. We wanted something easy to remember.

Besides, numbers are international. Everyone can read 9-1-1.

Don't have to worry about language barrier & all that." Clever lads !!

LeeFormed 2 years ago by dancers Spike & Jimmy,

911 officially became a band when Lee, a receptionist at

a bowling alley was roped in. The guys relate how they

started out without a single vocal lesson except in the

bathroom & were rejected by 6 major recording

companies before being signed on to their present one.

" Believe in ourselves & we know we'll make it if we work hard, so we didn't give

up," says Lee. " Our album is called   The Journey because we've travelled a

long, hard road from nothing to now.

It's also about our journey to the future," adds Jimmy.

A cross between swing, hip-hop & pop, 911's formula's obviously struck a right

chord what with hits like Don't Make Me Wait, The Day We Find Love

& Bodyshakin'-all of which made it to the UK Top 10.

JimmyAnd judging from the response they got at Changi

airport, these boys are now a Very Big Thing.

Apparently the crowd was so wild, police had a hard

time controlling it. Screaming girls leapt in front of

their car while others pounded feverishly on the

windows ! No wonder the guys look so chuffed !

" We were shocked !

We didn't realise so many people in Singapore knew about us.

When we saw the crowd, we felt really good. Before we came, we knew very

little about Singapore," they admit.

Aha. That's our cue to put 911 through

LIME's How Well Do You Know Singapore' test !
