  • reachingThe demo tape of Angra is sold out, and so it is very difficult to get the original demo tape. Limb-music has a CD pressing from 'Reaching Horizons'. This CD has besides the six original songs from the demo three bonus tracks: An alternate version of 'Carry On', an unreleased track called 'Don't Despair' and a speed version of 'Wuthering Heights'. This is the only CD where Marco Antunes plays the drums.
The sound quality is not superb but the fans must have it.

holyland'Holy Land' is the second studio album. It is almost a concept album, which draws parallels between the dicovery of South America and the situation today. The Japanese version of 'Holy Land' has a bonus track called 'Queen Of The Night'. The fitst 8000 copies of the French version has a bonus CD included with 3 unreleased live acoustic tracks recorded at FNAC, Paris, May 1995.

fireworksThe new ANGRA-CD has become a well produced CD (by Chris Tsangarides), but, maybe for some fans, the sound has changed. In my opinion it is not a bad change. 'Fireworks' has become more progressive and Andre has a less shrill voice. Most of the South-American percussion has disappeard too. It is a pity, but on the other way Angra shows how they can play their music. The new album contains 10 tracks and it takes 57 minutes.
'Wings Of Reality' starts like we are used to hear of Angra: speed-metal with choruses which stay in your head for a long time. After a slow part there is a part with dominant keys (first time I hear it of Angra) followed by a guitar solo (Kiko and Rafael can still play the guitars!)
'Petrified Eyes' starts with a slow jazz-like intro, followed by nice bass-playing of Luis. The rest of the song is a real Angra-song (with, of course nice guitar solo's).
'Lisbon' is also the title of the single which came out at the end of June. The construction of this song looks a little bit like 'Make Believe' of the CD 'Holy Land'.
'Metal Icarus' begins like most Angra songs, but after 3 minutes the music becomes more progressive and complex.
'Paradise' is the longest track on this album (7:35). It is a slow but fat progressive song.
'Mystery Machine' is a Angra song as we are used to hear, mixed with some progressive influences.
'Fireworks' begins slow and it becomes fatter with the time. After 3 minutes there is a slow guitar solo and 1 minute later the guitar solo becomes faster (here I can hear some Dream Theater-inluences).
'Extreme Dream' is a song with a cool guitar solo.
'Gentle Change' is the only song with the South-American percussion. The piano has an important part of this song. The guitars too of course. 'Speed' is the song where most speed-orientated Angra fans are waiting for. The title of the song tells you what song it is. After 2 minutes there is a complex part followed by the same speed as in the beginning with the guitar solo.
This CD is for me a very good one. It deserves 9,5 out of 10 points!!
