Originally the Strawberry Hill Band , but by the time of their first recording (recorded in Denmark, I think) with Sandy Denny sort of sitting in, they had already shortened it to Strawbs. I seem to recall it was called something like `All Our Own Work'. [On their return to the UK, they hawked the tapes around various record companies, but failed to clinch a deal. Meanwhile Sandy decided to move on to join Fairport Convention, and the album was shelved 'til 1973]. This was also Sandy's first album, and had a lovely version of Who Knows Where the Time Goes. The central creative force of the band was/is always David Cousins, but there have been several other strong writers, like Hudson and Ford, who went on to fame as a duo. The sound started out in the Fairport Convention vein of folk rock, with traditional british folk roots, but soon migrated into its own unique territory, which incorporated baroque music, and Moody Blues style mellotron washes. Music to crank up and flush out your brain with, like standing on top of a hill in a storm. Had massive amounts of `underground' FM airplay with the title cut and Benedictus from the Grave New World album, and 4 or 5 cuts from Bursting at the Seams, most notably `Tears and Pavan'.
