The Music Club
from the heart of Africa
Hi all ye music lovers,
Thanks for taking an interest in the Music Club. I sure hope you will enjoy
your time here and come back regularly for there are so much to share with
you. But before I get carried away, let me introduce myself.
My name is Fanie Smith - pronounced as "faane". I was born in 1959 in what
today is known as Zwaziland - this was before it's independence.
I'm maried to a loving woman - Debbie Smith and we have four lovely kids
named Shawn, Teren, Melissa and Darius.
We currently live in the Johannesburg area, in fact have been for the
past thirty years.
Although I'm an electronics engineer and programmer, I've got a great love
for music. I've had training in organ but play the piano as well,
although not very well. I absolutely love the keyboard since it is such a
complete instrument.
My eldest son, aged 13, currently studies music and plays both piano and
recorder.
I use mainly Roland equipment for my recordings and spend fortunes on good
equipment.
My main sound device is the Roland MGS-64 voice module which is the later
model of the very popular and well known Roland Sound Canvas, SC800 it
think it's called.
For sequencing I use both a standalone Roland MC-50 sequencer and Cubase
Score, which is currently the second biggest Cubase package.
My amplifier is a 400W RMS quad channel amplifier with some "hevty" speakers
to bring the sound right where I need it, my whole body and soul. I hardly
need to drive this to full volume as my music studio is only 12 meter sq.
The music takes up a lot of my spare time, which I don't have many of.
I put every spare minute into my music.
