S and M, Metallica's corroberation with the San Fransicso Symphony Orchestra is the latest Metallica album. It's a double album full of classic Metallica tracks enhanced by amazing symphonic music. You should check this out just to see how different mediums can be meshed together and create a new unique sound while still keeping their souls intact. It's a very unique experience.
Metallica's Garage Inc., is full of impressive covers of old classics, such as 'Turn The Page' and 'Tuesday's Gone'. Coming after their sucessful duo of 'Load' and 'Reload', the latest from these 4 musicians has gained them an even greater following. The old Irish ditty 'Whisky in the Jar' is my favorite from this collection.
Some fans criticize them for selling out, but the truth is, all bands evolve and change, (except AC/DC) and Metallica is no different. Rather than seeing them as a sellout, I see a band who has finally come into their own with their ability to write songs, and express themselves. They are finally giving showcase to James Hetfield's surprisingly smooth voice on songs like 'The Unforgiven' from the black album.
The old hard, heavy Metallica still stands alone. No one can touch the complexity and intriguing blend of social consciousness and thrash of 'Master of Puppets'. The death of their original bass player, Cliff Burton, ripped a hole in the band that was not easy to fill. They soldiered on and found their replacement in Jason Newsted.
