Much VJ, Kathleen Rajsp, with Rebecca Rankin (camera woman/interviewer) , in the MuchMusic environment

Rajsp: ...and elsewhere while the federal election [June 2nd] is among what people are talking about these days, politics seems to be a very popular topic and you caught up with a band that has a bit of a political edge.

Rankin: Yeah. Do you remember Skunk Anansie from a couple of years ago, a British band?

Rajsp: Yes, yes [nodding]

Rankin: Well they were in town on Friday [May1697] , that seems like a week ago now, and I caught up with them. And they've always been known for having a bit of a political edge to their music, and their new album Stoosh is no exception as I found out.

Cuts to film of the concert, shows stage and an excerpt of Selling Jesus [..."you're buying this, you're buying that now, you're wishing all the money in the world belonged to you. You're crucified upon your own cross now, you're givin money to the white men in the white limo. That kind of God is always man made...]

Cuts to backstage, pre-concert, Rebecca Rankin with Cass and Skin.

Rankin: Let's talk about politics. Let's talk about BRITISH politics.

and smile.

: Yesssss!!

: Yesss...our favourite subject. Yes It's Fucking [bleeped out] Political. The intro to that, um, says um, "any change is a good change, especially when a government has been in power for a long time".

Cuts back to stage [Yes It's Fucking -bleeped- Political, Everything's Political. Yes It's Fucking -bleeped- Satirical, Everything's Satirical.] Scrolled across screen: In April the British people voted overwhelmingly to end 17 years of Conservative rule.

Cuts back to the backstage interview.

: In England, although the economy is okay, people are so sick and tired-we're so sick and tired of the Tory government because their policies and, um, the sleaziness of the party and the fact that, you know, they're just, uh -really for a certain section of society.

Cuts to a clip of the Hedonism video [which I have never seen, by the way...I've never seen any SA video *sniff*]

Rankin: Is it responsiblity as an artist to sort of keep people aware?

: You know, for us that's the way we-half of our album has a political song on it and half doesn't. It's one of the things we're interested in and one of the ways we express ourselves. And I think it's definitely up to the band. I would never say- I mean can you imagine if all of the music was political? Then it'd be reeeaalllyy boring, you know.

Cuts to more Yes It's Fucking Political from the concert, then back to the MuchMusic studio, Rebecca Rankin alone.

Rankin: Well if you think ROCK needs a good kick in the butt, give Stoosh a listen, cause it might have just what you're lookin' for.
