Where to find the movies
Some of Jackson's films might be found at some more commercial video store
chains such as Blockbuster, Rogers etc etc. I know they stock movies such
as Heavenly Creatures, Frighteners and Braindead (titled Dead Alive in vid
stores). Be cautious if you intend on seeing the full version of Braindead
though. Due to some pressure from film review boards, some of these chains
have cut out a LOT of the film. You want the copy that's 100 mins in length.
If you find one that's only 87 mins, that is the CUT version, don't even bother
with it. If you find one that's 103 mins running time for the film, you've
truly lucked out and found a completely uncut film, the EXACT same was what
was show in the theaters when it was released. As far as I know these chains
haven't cut anything out of Heavenly Creatures, but Braindead is missing 13
mins in the cut version.
Your best idea to find the uncut version of Braindead and less commercially
available movies of his are to find a local video store that deals with B
movies, anime, and many obscure foreign films. These places are where you'll
find Meet The Feebles, uncut Braindead and Bad Taste. If you live in Toronto,
specifically in the downtown area, you can find all of Jackson's films that
are available on video at Suspect Video. You need a membership to rent from
them and they usually like it if you live in the immediate area. There are 2
Suspect outlets: 605 Markham St (off Bloor W of Bathurst) and 619 Queen st W
1/2 block east of Bathurst. You can also email them at suspect@interlog.com
If you are going to rent from them, PLEASE return your movies when they're
due!!! Don't forget, you wouldn't be able to see the movie if someone else
hadn't returned it, so please allow others the priviledge of viewing them as
well and return them. Oh, rewind them too dammit!!! :)
