Bruce Dickinson
New Solo album Tyranny of Souls
Released May 24th 2005 on Sanctuary Records

Bruce Dickinson is an artist who has influenced thousands of singers, musicians and fans alike in his outstanding role as the front man of legendary band Iron Maiden. He has achieved great success as a solo artist, and is also acclaimed as a Radio DJ, TV presenter, pilot, author and voice of modern music.
It has been seven years since Dickinson released his last solo album, The Chemical Wedding, which received massive critical acclaim while exploring intriguing and dark themes. The intervening years have seen him make a highly successful return to Iron Maiden, with two huge albums and record breaking live shows and tours.
Tyranny Of Souls, Bruce’s new solo venture, sees him return once again to collaborate with guitarist/producer/writer Roy Z. The album’s cover is adorned with a 15th century depiction of Hell by Hans Hemling and the music continues along this path to explore dark, apocalyptic themes. Delving into science, theology and of course, his love of flight, with thought provoking, intelligent and menacing lyrics that are sure to leave the listener’s mind unsettled, Tyranny Of Souls is pure Dickinson. Heavy riff-laden songs and explosive virtuoso guitar work from Roy joined with the definitive Dickinson soaring vocals, makes this ground breaking album a tour de force of modern Metal.
It was following on from the end of the last Maiden tour that Bruce saw an opportunity to work alongside Roy again.
“With Maiden, once the band has finished up on the tours, we all tend to go our separate ways and do our own thing for a while until it’s time to saddle up again for the next album. I knew I could seize the chance to work with Roy in between his work on the new Judas Priest album. We both work quickly together which I like and the recording is very organic so it came together quite easily. I’m very proud of it.”

Tracklisting – Tyranny Of Souls

It has been comfirmed. Bruce will release a Best of album tenatively scheduled for September that will include two new songs ("Silver Wings" and "Broken"). Roy Z played Bass and Keyboards. Dickie Fliszar, from the Tattooed Millionaire tour played drums (Dave was busy touring with the Young Dubliners). The following update was posted at Blabbermouth recently regarding a two-CD BRUCE DICKINSON retrospective. Two new songs ('Silver Wings' and 'Broken') both written and recorded with Roy Z will be part of the package which also features various rare, live and unreleased tracks, spanning Bruce's whole solo career from 1990's Tattooed Millionaire to 1998's The Chemical Wedding. Tentatively titled the Best Of Bruce Dickinson, the set brings to mind the Catacombs material he has spoke about in the past. Said to be scheduled for a September release through Air Raid/Sanctuary Records, here is the tracklisting: CD1 - 'Silver Wings', Broken', 'Tattooed Millionaire', 'Born In '58', 'Tears Of A Dragon', 'Back From The Edge', 'Laughing In The Hiding Bush (live version)', 'Road To Hell', 'Accident Of Birth', 'Darkside Of Aquarius', 'Chemical Wedding', 'The Tower' and 'Book Of Thel' (live version). CD2 - 'Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter' (original version), 'Man Of Sorrows' (demo version), 'Wicker Man'(original version), 'Acoustic Song', 'Midnight Jam', 'Real World', 'Original Sin', 'No Way Out', 'Darkness Be My Friend', 'Ballad Of Mutt' and 'Jerusalem'.

5/29/01

Bruce was in LA recently and recorded 2 more songs with Roy. No other info is available on the songs. Roy has been Writing with Rob Rock and now is getting in Halford pre-production for the next album. Roy also has a jam band with some friends called Serpents & Rainbows. They're doing classic 70's rock covers with different guest singers; they have a couple of L.A. area gigs coming up later this month and into June.

I have added "Sin City"Live from the Tattooed Millionaire tour in the Sounds Section.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AYREON'S TWO-PART 'UNIVERSAL MIGRATOR' RELEASE INCLUDES ASTONISHING VARIETY OF ALL-STAR GUESTS MUSICIANS

Arjen Anthony Lucassen, the mad composer, has returned to bring the masses not one, but two new offerings from his Extraterrestrial Prog-Metal concoction known simply as Ayreon. As exhibited by the album titles alone, you can guarantee that you're in for a wild aural ride with these Inside Out Music America releases. The Universal Migrator is a 2-part conceptual piece that discusses the personal aspects of sci-fi themes like interstellar exploration and time travel.

The first disc, 'Universal Migrator part I: The Dream Sequencer', is very Prog and atmosphere-centric, much like his previous effort, 1998's 'Into The Electric Castle: A Space Opera' and features such notable musicians in the field as Clive Nolan (Arena), Johan Edlund (Tiamat), Lana Lane, and Neal Morse (Spock's Beard).

Disc Two, 'Universal Migrator part II: Flight of the Migrator' is much more cutting edge, symphonic Melodic Metal and features the many talents of some very noteworthy musicians: Ed Warby (Gorefest, Elegy), Michael Romeo (Symphony X), Erik Norlander, Gary Wehrkamp (Shadow Gallery); and incredible vocal participation by the likes of Russel Allen (Symphony X), Ralf Scheepers (Gamma Ray, Primal Fear), Andi Deris (Helloween), Fabio Lione (Rhapsody), Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius), Ian Parry (Elegy) and yes, Bruce Dickinson of the legendary Iron Maiden!!

Although many of the special guests contribute their vocal and instrumental talents, Lucassen is practically a one-man band! The Dutch musician, who made a a name for himself with Bodine and Vengeance, plays electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitar, analog synthesizers and keyboards on both parts of ' Universal Migrator.' The use of analog synthesizers certainly contributes directly to the warm sound of these albums.

The progressive rock and progressive heavy metal genres aren't exactly high-profile mainstream media darlings, so perhaps it's useful to make some musical comparisons to let people know what kinds of impressive sounds the Ayreon CDs will fill their ears, brains and hearts with. Lucassen's fluid, dreamy guitar style, for example, recalls that of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. And the airy synthesizer and keyboard textures, particularly on 'Universal Migrator part I: The Dream Sequencer,' can be favorably linked to cutting-edge new age music.

'Universal Migrator part I: The Dream Sequencer' and 'Universal Migrator part II: Flight of the Migrator' are available separately.

IT appears as though the rumor of Bruce Dickinson's movie, 'The Chemical Wedding', will happen. Though not necessarily with MALCOLM McDOWELL and ROGER DALTREY starring, according to what Bruce said on Radio 2 yesterday (I am trying to get a transcript of the interview). In other news, accoring to Metal Edge ALICE COOPER and BRUCE DICKINSON will be presenters at the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards, to be held in Stockholm, Sweden on November 16.

I have finally finished transcribing the Roy Z interview. My apologies for taking so long, but time was not on my side. You can go to the Interviews section or you can just click here.

2/18/00

The Roy Z interview took place yesterday and went very well. I only had about 25 minutes but I managed to get alot of information. Some highlights were: The Tribe will be on Air Raid in Europe and Sanctuary in the US, so look for a summer release of the new CD. Look for a possible US tour as well as a European tour this year. Roy is already writing for the new album, which is more aggressive than Standing...and hopes to have it out by years end. I hope to have the entire interview up in the next week or so.

2/11/00

I have updated the Sounds page with Tears of the Dragon (Acoustic Chillout). Sorry it is in Real Audio format due to limited space. Also, the Roy Z interview is coming real soon possibly in the next week or two. Stay tuned!

2/2/00

I have updated the Sounds page with a live acoustic version of "Rescue Day"(not the full version)in MP3. There has not been much Bruce news of late besides his work with Rob Halford. Hang tight and stay tuned. I added a link below for Tickets.com

12/31/99

I have updated the Sounds page with 3 songs from Adrian's days in Urchin. They are "She's a Roller," "Black Leather Fantasy," and "Long Time No Woman." All MP3. I hope to have some new interviews next year with Bruce, Adrian & Roy Z.

11/22/99

I have updated the Sounds page with 4 songs from Adrian's solo project, A.S.a.P. I am still trying to finalize a Roy Z interview, however, it may not happen until next year due to scheduling conflicts. No new Bruce info as of yet. I hope to have an interview with him next year.

11/11/99

Believe it or not, the long awaited Adrian interview during the Skeleton Crew days, after The Untouchable days is close to being started again. I also plan on adding some songs from the ASAP b-sides in the coming weeks. Go to the Misc page for the tab to "Fog on the Tyne."

11/2/99

I have updated the Albums section with my brief review of Scream for Me Brazil. I will be updating some pictures of Bruce from my 1997 interview and the tab for "Fog on the Tyne" in the next week or two.

10/11/99

The live album has been pushed back to Nov 2 in the US. I should have my copy this week so stay tuned for my review. I have also added the new cover to the album section. The following was taken from the offical sites forum on why the unusual cover: Why the Piranha? Basically I asked Riggsy to come up with something based on Edward Munch, ie his famous painting "The Scream". I wanted to have Edison doing a version of the pose but with an ice pick in one hand embedding it into his skull, and the other hand being a rotating saw blade with copious chunks of wood, brain and blood splattering all over the cover. it took two and a half months for derek to come up with his painting and I think, alas, that something was lost in the translation. what we ended up with was edison looking a trifle askance as if someone had stepped inadvertently on his toe. The neccesity to release the album before the next century led to Rod (Smallwood) coming up with the idea of the the snarly fish, which is actually Brazilian in connotation and does not involve a soccer shirt! I myself was sceptical until I saw the actual picture and I must say that I quite like it. it is certainly different, and having seen it alongside a bunch of rival CD issues it really stands out. Oh the trials and tribulations of the label type thang. by the way, the record is released on Air Raid in the states as well and there are no plans for a change of cover.

9/21/99

I have updated the Sounds page with "Ballad of Mutt" and "Winds of Change." Both are from the Tattooed Millionaire single.

9/17/99

I have updated the Misc page with The Cleveland pictures. Most of the ones I took did not come out, however I did manage to get a couple of good ones. I also included the backstage pictures of me and the band, though I had to cut my brother out, sorry Harv!

9/7/99

The Bruce with Megadeth performance has been confirmed, twice! On Saturday night I accidentally came across the VH1 Rock Show and their was highlights of Bruce singing "Sabbath Bloddy Sabbath," with MegaDeth. Bruce was in his normal casual attire and had a lyric sheet in hand to sing the song. Also, John Von Draugr, the original poster of the message on the Maiden BB said, Bruce was in NYC. I was actually there at the show. He really kicked a**. He sounded better that night then on the Nativity in Black, at least that is my opinion. In "Scream for me Brazil" news, it has been reported, by Rob, that CD Europe is selling the new CD with a bonus track.

9/3/99

So you want "Scream for me Brazil" before anyone else. Well, thanks to Jeff Bruck for sending in the following: The Japan release date is 9-22-99, it is available for preorder through CD Europe. Also, thanks to Brian Shepherd a.k.a sheppyman, for sending this in: I heard that a day or two ago Bruce did a guest appearance at a benefit show with Megadeth in NYC. He sang "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and the crowd went crazy (from the Maiden bb). Lastly, for those of you who live in Chicago and for those around the globe, check out Revelations an Iron Maiden tribute band.

8/30/99

From Hard Radio: Even though Mr. Air Raid Siren, BRUCE DICKINSON, will be focusing all his energies on IRON MAIDEN all the way through 2001, there will be plenty for fans of Dickinson, the solo artist, to cheer about. In addition to his upcoming live album, Scream For Me, due out in October, Bruce has let slip that he intends to release a compilation album of sorts, tentatively titled Catacombs, some time next spring. "It'll be all stuff from the crypt - songs from the Accident of Birth and The Chemical Wedding sessions, weird stuff like the ECW track, maybe even some early stuff I did that preceeded Tattooed Millionaire, like the original version of 'Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter'. You know, really dig around and find some interesting things. People may have some of the tracks on B-sides - a lot of people won't. Nobody will have all of it or even fifty percent of it, so it'll be a really good fun, interesting record." As for Scream For Me, the album has now been scaled back from a double to a single disc. Explains Bruce: "Originally the idea was to do a CD-ROM with it, so it was gonna have a couple of extra tracks music-wise and some video footage and a photo gallery - stuff like that. There are two reasons why we canned it: One is - as it is right now, the CD comes in at 71 minutes, which is perfect for a single CD. The only track on the CD-ROM would've been 'Jerusalem', which is kind of a weird track to just have stuck out there on its own. The price difference and what I can only describe as the BS factor - manufacturing and everything else - it's just not worth it. We're far better off, particularly because I think CD-ROM is gonna be sort of outdated in a very short period of time because DVD is gonna come in. Basically, we could put together a terrific DVD package down the line, which could use any stuff like this. There just didn't seem any point to me in putting a CD-ROM out and complicating the whole issue. This way it makes it really clear what it is - one CD, 71 minutes of music, live album." Also scheduled to be released on Air Raid are all four SAMSON albums featuring Dickinson, namely Survivors, Head On, Shock Tactics, and Live at Reading as well as the reissue of the classic Metal For Muthas compilation which includes rare cuts by Iron Maiden, Angel Witch, Samson, and Praying Mantis among others. "We've been working on remastering 'Metal For Muthas' for the 20th anniversary of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. That'll come out this year - EMI have given us the go ahead to put it out."

8/27/99

Yes there has been an overhaul to the original site. Everything should still work, though some pages may have the old look to it, I am in the process of cleaning everything up. I didn't realize that this would take forever and I am not even getting paid for this. On to the story, a good of mine, Paul, who lives in LA, was in Maui, with his significant other to visited a local bar and here's what happened: On Monday night, we went to this club called Hapa's to listen to some live music. These long-haired guys walk in and they kind of look familiar, but I don't think much of it. The second guy steps around the first to order a drink and it's none other than Dave Murray! Thie first guy then became clear, Janick Gers. And right behind then was Adrian with his wife. They were really nice. I didn't talk to them for long because I didn't really want to bother them. I told them that I was a big fan and shared our story about going to see them, the car breaking down, and us trying to make it home on stolen parts (this was in Washington DC 1988). They all had a good chuckle. They said that they were on holiday for a short time and were out enjoying some local music and relaxing.

8/16/99

According to Hard Radio Bruce's new album will be called Scream for Me. According to Bruce it will be out sometime in October via Air Raid/Never, a new company that will be distributing the Air Raid catalog in North America in the future. Produced and mixed by Roy Z, the disc contains a total of 13 tracks, namely 'Trumpets Of Jericho', 'King In Crimson', 'Chemical Wedding', 'Gates Of Urizen', 'Killing Floor', 'Book Of Thel', 'Tears Of The Dragon', 'Laughing In The Hiding Bush', 'Accident Of Birth', 'The Tower', 'Darkside Of Aquarius', 'Road To Hell' and 'Jerusalem', which will be featured on a separate CD-ROM disc along with video live footage.

7/2/99

The Bruce interview is up in what may be the fastest turn around time for a interview ever, on this page. Click here to read the latest from the mouth of Bruce.

6/23/99

Well, that 20 minute interview lasted about 40-45 minutes. Typical Bruce. He was a nice as ever and had plenty of things to say. The producer for the new album has not been decided. He said they are still looking at a couple of people. He could not confirm that they are signed to Portrait records yet. His plans on releasing a bunch of songs, like "Wicker Man," stuff off the lost Keith Olson album and much more next year on Air Raid Records. Bruce will be in a movie. An actual Feature film with possibly the guy who played Superman in Lois & Clark, of the television series. This is a major film and will be released in the US and Air Raid looks to have gotten the soundtrack rights in Europe. Expect to hear a new Bruce song as well as couple off his solo stuff and the Tribe will possibly have 2 songs in their as well. Bruce will start mixing his live album when Maiden are in LA. Stay tuned for much more information when the interview comes out. He also said the rehearsal for the tour is going great and he said "The Clansman" sounds incredible. You'll have to allow me a week or two to get this done. Thanks to Bruce for the time and thanks to Lowell for setting this up!

6/21/99

As everyone may recall my Bruce interview that was scheduled for April was rescheduled for a later date. Well. I just found out that that later date will be June 23 at 1pm (est). The bad news is that the interview will only last 20 minutes. This would mean that I would not be able to ask any of the submitted questions. Sorry! However I am still waiting to see if I will get backstage passes for the Clevland show, if I do then I will make it a point to ask them. Also, I have been trying to update the "Born in 58'" & "Tattooed Millionaire" mp3 but I am having some problems, so please hang on and I will post them as soon as possible. I will give some brief highlights of the interview on Wednesday and I plan on asking Bruce about his solo career as well as Maiden! Thanks as always!!

6/9/99

This is not Bruce news, but I found it to be a good sign for Maiden as well as Bruce. Thanks to Chip for the Press Release!

MAIDEN STORM NEW YORK

Maiden's forthcoming tour looks set to be a blockbuster. Their first US show went on sale this week at New York's 4,500 capacity Hammerstein Theatre, (JULY 16) and SOLD OUT instantaneously, and a second show is added on July 17th. The Promoter announced this by having a light aircraft fly over OzzFest in New York, carrying a banner stating "IRON MAIDEN: SOLD OUT - SECOND SHOW ON SALE TOMORROW" Other shows go on sale immediately and promoters expect similarly ecstatic responses.
This follows the euphoria of tickets recently going on sale in Europe for the bands 12 date September Tour. Stockholm sold 9,300 in the first couple of hours with Rotterdam not far behind, with the 10,000 capacity Ahoy already practically sold out and the other cities following quickly. Says Maiden's Steve Harris, "It's very satisfying that the fans are reacting so quickly and in such a positive way. We're now rehearsing for the tour and basically can't wait to get started. See you soon."

5/28/99

I have update the Sounds page with the "Ballad of Mutt." A classic from the Tattooed Millionaire cd single, though the live version on the Dive! Dive! Live! video is better, in my opinion. Also, there is a good chance that the Bruce interview I was scheduled to do in April will be rescheduled for July, at the Maiden show in Cleveland. I'll keep you posted.

The poll results are as follows, to the question, What is your favorite Dickinson/Smith song from 83-88?
1. 2 Minutes to Midnight - 114 votes
2. MoonChild - 97 votes
3. Flight of Icarus - 95 votes
4. Back in the Village - 34 votes
5. Sun and Steel - 15 votes

5/17/99

I have added a new section called Sounds. In it I have added "Winds of Chnage" and plan on adding more down the road and I have fixed the Misc page so you can actually see it.

5/14/99

The Adrian Smith interview is done. Go to the Interviews page or click here.
