Review:

Fronted by singer/madman Devon Townsend (Vai, Frontline Assembly), Strapping Young Lad's sophmore album "City" is a noise fest of gargantuan preportions. The disc is a white-hot ball of energy that blasts through your speakers like so many train wrecks...only put to music. This is not necessarily a good thing though. While there are a few reasons why this album is worth owning (namely "All Hail The New Flesh" and "Detox") there are also a few reasons to avoid it. Tracks 5, 6, and 7 for example. While possessing the same intensity as their predessors, they seem like filler compared to the hooks of a track like "Detox". I'm not saying that this album is a bad purchase though, I just wish I had dubbed the best tracks. One thing of note is the wicked cover of Cop Shoot Cop's "Room 429". If you like this type of music, go for it. Me, I'll stick to Nevermore.
