The new TLC album, "3D", as titled by late Lisa Lopes, is due out on November 12, 2002. The name of the album refers to the three different dimensions that the three different members of TLC bring to the group. The album will include a track dedicated to Left Eye entitled "Turntable" (produced by Rodney Jerkins) that is all about living life the best you can with what you're given. Other tracks like the title track, "3D," (produced by Dallas Austin) are more about the beat and the bass. Another song, "Quickie," is one big joke at the expense of men who can't please their ladies. The theme introduced in "Quickie" is continued in "Girl Talk," (produced by Edmund "Eddie Hustle" Clement) which has replaced "Quickie" as being the first single. "Girl Talk" warns men that women tell each other about their men's performance just as much as men talk about their women's. Other tracks include the mid-tempo "In Your Arms Tonight," a track T-Boz cowrote entitled "Hands Up" about a lying boyfriend who claims he's going to a card game and ends up being caught by his girl at a club. The cheating boyfriend theme continues in "So So Dumb" about a man who attempts to cheat on his girlfriend with one of her friends. Missy Elliott and Timbaland make a coproducing appearance on "Dirty," which is all about bass and rhythm and is another way of honoring Lisa. Towards the end, Missy announces a moment of silence for Left Eye as well.
3D is about a lot. In my opinion, it symbolizes not only that T-Boz and Chilli are badly missing Left Eye, but that they will keep on moving as well. It is about suffering a loss, and honoring their fallen friend in the best way they can; by not stopping, by finishing and releasing the album, and by not forgetting the importance of the music and the fans. It is my humble opinion that they are doing exactly what Lisa would have wanted, and I truly hope that it is making her happy, because wherever she is now, I'm sure she's watching over them.
