A lot has been written about hammond organs.
Much of it is true, some is only rumor.
True is, that only the real thing sounds
like the real thing.
At Blue Star we have found the only way
to get the sound of the B3 with leslie 122 without having to carry them:
We carry a C3 with Leslie 147!!

My C3 was built in Chicago in `63
as 50 hz model for the European market. So it needs no frequency
shifter. It was in pretty good condition when I got it in `92.
There were minor hurts to the surface, but all the keys and drawbars worked
well. In ´95 a tube reverb tank was added and since then I´m
really satisfied with the sound.
My Leslie is a 147, still connected thru
a solid state preamp. We are looking for a different solution.
I use a footswitch to change speed. Unfortunately these switches are noisy.
Together with the relay click in the leslie this is too much when I record
quiet stuff. So we want to change that as well. There are solid state
relays available, but none that can be controlled by an impulse switch
at low voltage. Please let me know if you have an idea.
In the Studio we mike the leslie pretty close.
Two Neumann CMV 563 Tube micros thru Siemens V72 tube preamps for the rotor
and an AKG D112 for the bass.
