Chapter 8

*2 months later*

“Oh boy I’m getting big.”, Kameron said looking at herself in the mirror. The girls had went maternity clothes shopping together. “You know what Kam? That happens when you get pregnant. You get big!”, Haley said looking at herself too. “I still can’t believe we got pregnant at the same time.”, Kameron said holding up a shirt to her body. “It’s weird isn’t it? I am glad it happened though. I have somebody to be pregnant with now, and someone to complain to about my back-aches.”, Haley said laughing. “Awe....you mean you don’t complain to Brian?”, Kameron joked. “Ofcourse I complain to Brian. He gives the best back rubs.”, Haley exclaimed scanning the racks. “So does AJ.” “Well I think we have pretty much got everything we can get out of this store.” “I guess we better go pay for this stuff and meet up with the guys.” The girls paid for their things and walked to where they had planned to meet.

“Here babe. Let me get those.”, AJ said grabbing Kameron’s bags. Brian did the same for Haley. “Are you tired Brian? Do you feel like going home?”, Haley worried. Brian said he was feeling the best he had ever felt but Haley still worried. “I’m fine sweetie. If I didn’t feel good I would tell you. Don’t worry!” “Alright! Alright!! Just checking! So what do you guys wanna do now?” “We can go to the baby stores. You know. Look at cribs and stuff.”, AJ suggested. “Okay let’s go.”, Brian said putting one arm around Haley.

*That Night*

“I guess I better go pick up Tyler.”, Haley said walking to get her car keys. “No you don’t have to. Kevin called while you were in the shower. He said he would keep Tyler at his house tonight. Tyler is already asleep and plus he said it would give us a night to ourselves.” “Remind me to thank Kevin tomorrow.”, Haley said laughing. She walked over to the bed and sat down by Brian. “So what do you want to do?”, Brian asked open for suggestion. “I don’t know. It’s been so long since we have had a night to ouselves.”, Haley said exhaling. “Come on. I have an idea.”, Brian said helping Haley up. He led her down the stairs and into the living room. He turned on their stereo system and put in a CD. “I Do (Cherish You)” by 98 Degrees began to play. “May I have this dance?”, Brian asked holding out his hand. “Are you sure you want to dance with this old pregnant fat lady.” “There is no one I would rather dance with.” They began to sway to the music. “I can’t believe how my life has turned out.”, Haley said after a while. “Is that a good thing?”, Brian joked. “Yes. Ofcourse it is a good thing. I just can’t believe that we are married with a family. I mean, if someone had told me when I first met you that I would be marrying you, I would have laughed in their face. I kind of thought you were a player at first.”, Haley giggled. “You what?! Why?”, he laughed. “Because. When you just came up to talk to me in class, I figured you had an agenda or something.” “Nope. Wrong answer. I came to talk to you in class that first day because I thought you were the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. And that still holds true to this very day in this very moment.” “No wonder I love you so much. You have such sweet talk.”, Haley said laying her head back down on his shoulder.

There was another thought drifting through Haley’s mind though. The thought of the night that they broke up when Brian’s career had taken off. She was happy at how things had turned out though. That night though, her heart had broken like shattered glass. Only Brian could put the pieces back together.

*Flashback*

“Brian, I think we need to talk.”, Haley said when Brian had answered the phone. “I know we do. I was just kind of dreading this conversation for so long.”, he said softly above a whisper. “Things aren’t right between us. It’s not that I don’t love you. I love you more than you could ever know, but I don’t want to be the person that is holding you back from being happy.”, Haley said holding back the tears so she could atleast sound strong over the phone. “You aren’t holding me back. Don’t ever think that. I think I am holding you back because I can never be with you.” “Maybe we should just rest the relationship for a little while. The next time you come home, we can try it again. I’ll never stop loving you though Brian. No matter what.”, Haley said the tears rolling. “I’ll love you too.”, Brian said breaking down. “I better go. I love you.”, Haley said hanging up the phone before Brian could reply. “I love you too.”, Brian said, half a world away.

*Present*

Haley smiled. They had kept their promise to each other. The song ended and they sat down on the couch. “So, you have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. Do you want to know what the baby is?”, Brian asked propping his feet up on the coffee table. “No. I like the element of surprise. Do you want to know?” “No way! I want the satisfaction of knowing I’m right when it comes out a girl.”, Brian said very sure of himself. “I hate to tell you this Brian, but I think it’s a boy.” “How do you know?” “Well, mother’s can just tell. When I was pregnant with Tyler, I had a feeling he was a boy. Also, look at the facts. Boys run in your family.” “You are not going to change my mind. I still think we are having a girl.” “Okay then! I guess we’ll just fight about it the next 4 months.”, Haley said laughing. “Okay then!”
