Chapter 1

" Is Cord there?" I asked sitting cross-legged on my bed. I was home alone once again. My father was gone to New York on buisness or at least that was what he told me. We didn't have a very good relationship. My room was like any other teenage girl. I had posters of athletes all around my walls. In my room there was a dresser, a desk, a nightstand, a drumset, and a walk-in-closet. I guess you could say I had everything I wanted except a family. I wore my dark green cords with a blue silk long sleeve shirt.

"Yes, one moment." said Cordelia's mom. In a way Cordelia's mom was like mine too. She kinda took the place of my mom and helped me out alot. I still can't forgive myself for leaving the house that night. I heard someone pick up on the other end and another person hang up.

"Hey Al, What's up?" Cordelia asked in her hyper voice. She was so full of energy.

"Can you come over and help me pack?" I heard Cord yell to her mother she was coming over for awhile. We said bye and she hung up. I hung up and got up off my bed. I had to pack since I was leaving in the morning for Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was going to my Aunts for Christmas. I loved getting away from it all here in Toledo. I pulled out my ADIDAS gym bag, a duffle bag, and my backpack out of my closet and threw them on the bed. I heard the doorbell ring and ran down the flight of stairs to open it. There stood Cordelia in her ADIDAS snap pants outfit. She walked in and we headed up to my bedroom.

"How long you gonna be gone?" Cord asked me as she opened my closet and pulled out some clothes she thought I should pack. She threw sweaters and jeans mostly since I thought it may be a little cold there.

"About 2 weeks." I said throwing the clothes she picked out in my ADIDAS bag. She was done quickly and I had enough clothes to last me the trip. She sat at my laptop and started some weird game I had downloaded from a website called Terror 4: MidNight Scandal. "So where you going for Christmas?" I sat down on the edge of my bed. Cordelia turned toward me and looked at my arm.

"What happened to your arm?" She questioned getting up and looking over it. I had a huge bruise on it from the last time my dad had yelled at me for about the thousandth time about my mom's death. He always said it was my fault and hated me for it. He had done it like everyother time out of a drunken rage a couple of days ago before he left. I didn't think about the bruise and rolled my sleeve so it was visible and Cordelia saw it.

"I"ll give you two guesses but you'll only need one." I told her. She knew about my dad's outrages and didn't like them at all. She would often have me spend the night at her house while my dad was home just so I wasn't under his care. She sighed heavily.

"You can't let your father keep doing this to you. I mean he'll hurt you even worse one day." I shook my head no in protest.

"If I tell anyone my dad will hate me more and then I'll have to move away." Cord got up off my bed where she last was and walked out the door. I followed her to the front door where we said our goodbyes and promised to get each other presents while we were both out of town. I closed the door and locked it. I decided I'd better get some sleep since my flight was to fly off at 4:30 a.m. so I would arive there early that same morning. I went back to my room and slipped on a pair of black silk boxers and a white tank top. I threw my loaded bags to the floor and climbed in bed.

I woke up the next morning at 2:00 a.m. cause I had to be at the airport at 4:00 a.m. and it was an hour to there. I took a quick shower and blow dryed my hair. I curled it under and decided to wear flare jeans and a tight dark green shirt. I slipped on a pair of my Docs and put on my 2 necklices I wore everyday. I grabbed my three bags and put them at the bottom of the stairs. I stuffed my beeper and cell phone in the outside pocket of my bookbag and left the house. I walked down the street to Tara's house. It was awful dark out. Tara was my older cousin who I was good friends with. I rang the doorbell at her house and waited for her to answer. She had her long blond hair pulled back in a ponytail and she wore her twill pants and a navy tight shirt. She grabbed her keys and we headed to the airport.

"So, you're Tulsa bound?" She finally asked me.

"Yeah, I'm spending it with Aunt Kirsten and Uncle David. It's a hell of alot better than being by myself." Tara knew how much I hated my dad but didn't know anything about his beatings. I was able to cover up the mark on my arm and another one on the back of my neck.

"Well, I hope you have fun there. Uncle David is managing a really cool band I hear." I looked out the window to watch the snow fall. I have heard of the band Uncle David was managing and thought they were really great. At least I would have some people around my age with me. Tara was 18 and moved out of her house when she was 16. Her mom was also my mom's sister but they were never really close. Her and I were the only ones that talked to each other. We never heard from Tara's mom or dad ever again after the funeral. Before long we arrived at the airport. I climbed out of her car and grabbed my bags. She walked me to my gate where we said our goodbyes and she left. I had 15 minutes until my plane boarded and the place was rather dead. I pulled out my cell phone and decided to call Aunt Kirsten to tell her I'd be there in about 3 hours. I would arrive there at 5:30 there time since there was a 2 hour time difference and the flight would be 3 hours long. I called her house and my uncle picked up on the 3rd ring.

"Hey Al! What time do we pick you up?" His voice sounded rather up for a person up at 2:15 in the morning there time.

"You pick me up in about 3 hours from now." I heard him yell to Aunt Kirsten to remember that.

"Okay. We'll see you then Ali." We hung up. My Uncle was the only one that ever called me Ali. Everyone either called me Al or Ali not usually Aleka. I sat looking around the airport for awhile before deciding to go to the magazine stand. I bought the YM, Seventeen, and the Teen magazines they had there. The clerk nearly fell asleep while ringing it up. I felt very wide awake for some reason and very excited too. I hadn't been really excited for a long time but for an odd reason I was incredibly happy to be with a normal family. When I got back to my bags they called for passengers to board my plane. I had first class seats so I was first on. Not too many people were leaving for Tulsa at 4:30 in the morning so I was by myself in first class the whole way there. I read my magazines and listened to my CD player most the way and the other time I just spent thinking about how great of a time I was going to have.

I was walking through the terminal in Tulsa after the 3 hour plane ride when I heard my Aunt screaming my name. Everyone around me looked dead to the world but I was wide awake and happy. I was only carrying my bookbag since my other bags were way to big. As I stepped into the open space my Aunt wrapped her arms around me.

"How are you Dear?" She asked me while pulling me away to look me over. I flashed her a quick smile.

"I'm great. Where's Uncle David?" I questioned looking around the area we were standing in.

"Oh he went to get your bags." My aunt and uncle had no children which they always said was fine since the band David manages has six kids and a seventh on the way. They considered them there kids as well. "Are you ready to get home and get some sleep?"

"Are you kidding? I am wide awake! There is no way I could fall back asleep." My Aunt laughed and my uncle appeared. They were both wearing what looked like what they had worn to bed. They had sweats and T-Shirts on. We all walked to the car and drove to my new home for the next 2 weeks.
