Chapter 22: Friends Come Through

Taylor sat in the chair, his head in his hands and cried. August was the first girl he had really loved, and now she wasn't a part of him anymore. He didn't understnad why he had said what he did. He didn't want to hurt her, yet he did, unwillingly. He didn't know where she was, but he wanted to find her.

"Zac" whispered Diana
"yes?"
"Go see if you can find August."
"Sure mom."
"Thanks honey"

Zac got up and ran after August. He ran for about 2 minutes and found her sitting on a bench, crying. Somehow, there were some reporters there asking her questions. He walked over and pulled on her shirt to get her attention. He had sunglasses and a hat, with his hair tucked into the hat. He thought to himself. "I need to find out why these people bug August, and how they know where we're going to be" He searched his pockets. "BINGO" he thought. There, in his jacket pocket, actually it was Taylor's jacket, for his recorder. He knew that Taylor kept a recorder in his pocket when they trveled, incase he though of something for a song. He turnned it on and held it in his hand.

"How do you people find out where Hanson is going to be?" he asked the reporters.
"We get tips kid."
"So if you're looking for Hanson, why are you bothering her?" he said, refering to August.
"Because she's the biggest news in music right now."
"Why?"
"For being Taylor Hanson's girlfriend."
"So? Isn't he aloud to have a girlfriend, privately?"
"Nope. Hey kid, get out of my way. You don't understand any of this, because you're not famous. You've gotta be in the business to understand. So why don't you get out of here. Hey, why do you care anyway? Its Hanson. Girls like Hanson. Personally, I don't like them, I think they're little sissys, and they'll be gone soon. But its a big story, and I'm getting good money for this."
"So, you just have a problem with the middle one?"
"No, I've got a problem with all of them, the oldest is a freak that looks like a horse, and the little one is the worst. He's obnoxious and annoying.

This made Zac mad. Incredibuly mad.

"I don't think you should do that..." whispered August, sniffiling.
"Oh and why not Miss ‘I'm Taylor Hanson's girlfriend look at me world'"
"Excuse me?!"
"You heard me"
"Yea, Unfortunately, I did."
"Hey mister, So you think they'll be gone soon, do ya?"
"Yes, I do. They're a bunch of twerps. Why do you care?"

Zac took his hat of, his hair tumbling out, and he pulled off his sun glasses. He glared at the reporter. The reporter's face turnned white.

"Whoa, kid, I didn't mean any of that. Do you mind posing for a picture?"
"I'm not going to pose for any pictures, at least, none taken by you. Unfortunately for you, I have everything you jsut said right here." Zac said, gesturing to the recorder.
"Hey kid, I'll give you anything you want, just don't give anyone that tape."
"Why should I? This would make a great story. I can see it now: ‘Reporter that covers Hanson actually hates them..Exclusive interview'" Wouldn't that look nice on the front of USA Today?"

With that, Zac pulled August's wrist and left the shocked reporter, with his mouth open. Behind him, three other reporters were scribbling away on note pads. There was even a camera man from the NBC there. People would hear about this.

August and Zac walked into the food court and sat down.

"You missed your flight."
"Yea, I know."
"What happened August? I mean on one hand I'll go with you on the fact that Tay's been bragging a lot, but then on the other hand, you didn't say much."
"Yea, I know"
"So, whats gonna happen now?"
"I'm not sure."
"Ok. You know that if you wna to talk to me, you can, whenever."
"Thanks Zac. You know, for only being 12, you're pretty smart."
"Yea, I know."
"And modest too."

Zac smiled.

"I think I might take you up on that offer sometime dude."
"Cool."

August got up. Zac followed.

"I probably better find your mom, should't I?"
"Yea, probably."
"Hey, I forgot to ask, how did you guys get down here? Did your dad drive you?"
"Well, no. Me and Ike went after Tay, dad doesn't know we're gone. I left a note. We took a cab."
"Gosh, you guys basically do whatever you want, don't you?"
"Well, yea"

August laughed, and rubbed her eyes. She was still crying. Zac noticed this and pulled her into a hug. She hugged him for a few seconds and smiled at him.

"You're taller than me! And stronger!"
"Its from playing those drums, ya know?"
"Yea, I guess"

They walked slowly back to the plane terminal. When they arrived, only Diana was standing there.

"Mom, where are Ike and Tay?"
"Your father came. He found the note you left him. You spilled milk on it."
"Hehehe, ooppss"
"So, August, are you ok?"
"I'll be ok, but I missed my plane."
"Yes, I know. I talked to the airline person, and there is another flight later tonight. I can get you on thhat one if you'd like."
"Yes, please."
"Ok, thats fine. It'll be about 5 hours or so until then, what would you like to do until then?"
"Well, I really don't want to go back to the hotel...."
"How bout we go shopping?"
"That'd be awesome!"
"Zac, honey, do you mind?"
"Nope, thats cool."
"Ok, then thats what we'll do."
"Ok"

The three left the airport and headed for the car. They climbed in and drove downtown. August had never seen so many stores! They were huge!

"Where would you like to go first?" asked Diana
"Hmmm... How about American Eagle. I Love that store!"

They all went into American Eagle and spent about 2 hours picking out clothes. Diana bought August whatever she wanted. Thats more proof that she was like a second mother. After American Eagle, Zac got his wish to go to Spencer's Gag Shop. August helped him pick out some awesome gags that he could use on Taylor and Isaac. Finally, they headed to the music store. Zac immediately rushed over to the percussion equiptment. There, before his very eyes was a drumset. Near it, there was a sign that said:

"Try Me!"

Next to the drumset were a keyboard and a guitar. Amazingly, August had memorized the notes of MMMBOP on the guitar. And being their mother, Diana knew the piano part. Zac grinned.

"Shall we?" he asked
"Yes, we shall" replied August.

He counted off and they started playing. August and Zac sang the whole song, and they drew quie a crowd. The manager of the store was among the crowd. He was bobbing his head to the beat, with a smile on his face. The three finished the song, and the crowd erupted into applause. They smiled and got up to leave. Or so they tried. Zac got mobbed before they got out of the store. The manager got some of his stock boys to make a baracade for them. He went and talked to them. He even had Zac sign the drumset. After that, Zac, Diana, and August left the store and headed for the car once again. They headed back to the airport.

"Ok, I'm not going to miss this flight."
"You bet you aren't." smiled Zac.

August hugged Diana and then Zac. She kissed him on the cheek.

"Thank You Zac."
"For what?"
"Just for being you."
"Ok." he smiled

She smiled at him and at Diana and turnned to get on the plane. She turnned around.

"I'll call when I get home, ok?"
"Ok, I'll talk to you then." called Zac.

August waved one last time and got on the plane.
