Well, it is a long and funny story, but here goes. So the band was here in Boston, MA last July. Well I was fortunate to go to both concerts, however the seats I had were less than desirable (If I didnt have binoculars I dont think I would have seen anything). On the way out after the concert I heard that the band was staying at a certain hotel in downtown Boston. Well needless to say a plan was in the works.
Myself and my 17 month old son were off the next morning to the hotel. I parked in the valet parking. We hung out in the lobby. My son and I went into the cafe for lunch. I thought that as the concert was late, they probably wouldnt be checking out until about 1 or 2 p.m.
Well my son and I just blended in as one of the other guests. Here comes my painful story. Well, after lingering in the hotel for close to 2 hours or so, my son was needless to say somewhat bored and I was getting frustrated. We were at the elevators and my son was playing in the cigerette sand and I was trying to stop him from doing so. He proceeded to thow himself on the floor and have a temper tantrum. I was trying to pick him up when all of a sudden the elevator doors opened. Yes, you guessed it! I was there face to face with Bono, and my kid was screaming! I was horrified ! ! He couldnt get out of the elevator because we were in the way. Well being the kind of person that he is, he scooped up my son for me and tried helping me. Well, as you may have seen Bono in photos, he frequently wears a black hooded shirt. He had the hood on and the funky glasses. My son took one look at this man that was holding him and let out a screek to end all screeks! I was horrified, now my son was as well. At this point I must have had a look of terror in my eyes! Adam Clayton was also in the elevator behind Bono. When he heard my son screek at the sight of Bono, Adam burst out laughing ! (in looking back it was funny) Anyway, Bono said to me, "I think you need to tend to your son". I took my son and walked to the other side of the lobby. The band pressed on and was getting ready to leave.
I was sitting in a chair trying to calm my son and regroup myself. Adam came and sat by me and chatted a bit. I was so impressed by his kindness in my time of great sorrow! All of a sudden I noticed that they were gone out into the car port of the hotel ! I ran outside and catched only one photo of Bono getting into his car. I would really have liked to have had a photo with Adam, as he seemed like such a great guy ! Well, thats it, my story. I will tell my son that he ruined my chance encounter with "the Band U2".
My friends say that this encounter was funny and a good story because it shows that even the best laid out plans sometimes do not work out as you expect. I am just glad that I had the opportunity to meet them, even though it was in this way. I will probably never have the same opportunity again!
