You asked for stories if anyone's ever met U2. Well, I didn't actually meet them but I have had 4 different "brushes" with them.
First one, March 31, 1992, ZOO TV tour Rosemont Horizon, Chicago.
Unknowingly we had parked next to the tour busses, as I was getting out
of the car I looked up at the window of the bus and
Adam Clayton was sitting right there. He looked at me and my friend
and waved, so we waved back.
#2: Later during the show we had managed to make our way toward the back of balcony (which was sectioned off) that was level to a ramp that Bono walks on. As he is singing "Bullet the Blue Sky" he is pretty much eye level to us and sings to us.
Third brush, May 12,1997 PopMart, Dallas. I got this wild stupid idea that I was bound and determined to get noticed at this show. So, I made a PopMart outfit; sequined pants, blouse that read POP in sequins and golves to match, AND a sequined flag that read POP on one side, U2 on the other. Our seats were 6th row right in front of Edge (so needless to say we had an excellent view). While Bono was singing, "Hold Me, Thrill Me....." he points and waves, I tried to throw the flag up to him, although he tried to lean forward to catch it, it didn't make it and the security guy gave it back to me. June 28, 1997 Soldier Field, Chicago. I wore the same outfit, I got noticed, pointed and waved at again. And said hello.
Fourth brush, Nov. 23, 1997 Alamodome, San Antonio. This one didn't happen at the show, it happened right before. Me and my friend were going crazy trying to figure out where they could possibly be staying. After staking out the most expensive hotel in town we gave up. About 2 hours before the show I walked to the mall to get some cash and as I came out the front entrance, a rather large limo is slowly driving by (with a police escort), the window cracks open and I caught a glimpse of Larry. I guess I could consider myself lucky, but I'm still hoping for the day to officially meet them.
