Shary's Encounter

Shary met Bono... 'nuff said!

Ever Met U2? I met Bono VERY briefly for about oh... 10 seconds might be pushing it. I handed him the 1st CD of my favorite Hawaiian music band called HAPA. I would have given him their 2nd too entitled 'In The Name of Love' on which they covered 'Pride', but it was not in stock in Boise. The lead guitarist/composer virtuoso, Barry Flanagan, is an Irish American from New Jersey who was thrilled when he heard I did this as he's an avid fan of U2 as well. My good 'ole friend Larry Lieberman played the drums for their version of 'Pride'.

So my giving him the CD (one of my favorites among all) had much significance to me. Of course, Bono looked baffled when I gave it to him and probably deserved an explanation, but I was hoping my messy note in the CD sleeve would explain it to him. All he said to me after noticing my WIRE tag with the permanent pen dangling from it was, "I hear there are going to be a lot of Wirelings in town like for some kind of Popmartian convention." All I could say without jumping outta my skin was, "Yeah, and it'll be my first one in 12 years. I'm really looking forward to it." He sort of shook my hand lightly and left for the Lincoln. I think he was still baffled...

Anyway, next time I just might actually get an autograph and ask for the corny hug I so wanted to give him, but alas, I'm an adult now and I conducted myself like a sober individual. I wanted to show respect and reserve some for myself too. Ahh shucks.
