A four-song EP (the title 'Wide Awake' is a line from 'Bad'), was released as a low-priced collection of U2's live performance during their "The Unforgettable Fire" tour.
A reasonably good buy, but if you buy bootlegs of U2's earlier performances, you'll probably have these songs already.
My Fave Tracks: Bad, Love Comes Tumbling
Wide Awake in America is one of my least favorite U2 releases. First of all, the tracks are recorded live but they are done during soundcheck in Europe (not America).
The sound of the audience before and after the first two tracks were added in to have the live "feel." The songs after the first two are very good, such as "Love Comes Tumbling." Yet, a better version of "Love Comes Tumbling," could be found on the b-side of "The Unforgettable Fire" single, which includes the haunting "BASS Trap"- recorded with Brian Eno on keyboards.
'Wide Awake in America' can be passed up if you're not a serious U2 fanatic. "Bad" is done well, but does not include the usual snippets of "Sympathy for the Devil"(Rolling Stones) or "Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division) The cover looks like a bootleg because it just shows the frontman----as most bootlegs do!!!

All I can say about this album is get it for "Three Sunrises", I love that song! Love Comes Tumbling is great too. The live songs are good but as Lyn said, they're nothing new. The live version of Bad isn't near as good as the performance on the Rattle and Hum video or the Live Aid performance.
