Sutter Cane formed in early 1998 with founding members Scott Hillabrand on drums, Tim VanGeem on bass, Eric Brouilette and Adam Tourek of Release both on guitar, and Justin Brink on vocals. One song was written and recorded with only Justin, Scott and Adam. The song was entitled "blind man's semen."
When Justin transferred high schools, he met Brandon crane that shared similar tastes in horror movies and music. They became friends and Brandon was asked to join.
Over time Adam left Sutter cane. There was no hard feelings or anger of any kind during this transition. Adam and the rest of Sutter cane just felt it was right. The line up at the time was Scott on drums, Tim on bass, Eric (bean) on guitar, and Justin and Brandon on vocals.
Enough songs were written to make a debut on the local music scene. The first show was at "The Generator" and consisted of the songs: "Every Night", "On Halloween", a Misfits cover "Braineaters", "Shadow of Pain", and "Educating the Hate". There were about 50-75 people at that show.
More time went on and the band played at such venues as the Ranch Bowl, The Asylum, The Cog Factory, and Sokol Hall. They have played with such local acts as Plosion, Lead, Juror 13, the Reanimated, Fornever, Erotic Exorcism, Knossos, and various others, (none of which are intentionally left from this list.)
This line up lasted for a while but it was eventually decided that for the better of the band, Brandon would switch to guitar leaving Justin solo on vocals. More songs were written such as: "Clear Eyes", "Hobbs End Horror", and "Terrorist". They have recently opened for the Century Media recording artists Turmoil.
A kind of family has started between some of the local bands. Cupidisdead, M-16, Plosion, Release, and Sutter Cane. If you go to see one band, you're bound to see either another one of the family bands there or at least various members. They currently are taking some time off from playing shows to write some new material. Sutter Cane is expecting to be recording with Skinsuit Records this summer. That is pretty much the history of Sutter Cane for now!
