FAMILY: (Left to right) Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth Paltrow, Blythe Danner, Jake Paltrow Gwyneth's father, Bruce Paltrow, is a successful producer with programs such as "St. Elsewhere" and "The White Shadow". Her mother is the award-winning actress Blythe Danner. Gwyneth and her younger brother, Jake, spent most of their childhood in Los Angeles. At age 11, Gwyneth and her family moved to New York City. She enrolled at the University of California in Santa Barbara with the intention of studying Art History. Realized she did not feel commited, she withdrew. Despite her father's advice to continue her studies, Gwyneth pursued a career in acting which began with a moving performance in the Williamstown Theatre production of "Picnic" where she starred alongside her mother.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE A witty, fast-moving romantic comedy with a whirl of mistaken identities, mixed-up messages and misbegotten desires. The film follows the trials and tribulations of young Shakespeare, suffering from a dreadful bout of writer's block, when he meets and falls in love with Viola, who is betrothed and soon to be married to the insufferable Earl of Wessex. Paltrow played the willowy lover who inspires a youthful Bard in the romantic comedy "Shakespeare in Love" . She wasn't the filmmakers' first choice for Viola. She got the part when filming was postponed and the cast reorganized around a young, romantic Will. Julia Roberts was originally casted to play Viola. Paltrow earned an Oscar nomination and rightly so, the award went to her.
