Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart, Geddy Lee
Late in 1968, friends Alex Lifeson & Geddy Lee, joined by drummer John Rutsey, formed the band Rush. For a short time, there was a fourth band member, keyboard player John Lindsey. A Led Zeppelin cover band, Geddy Lee became vocalist and bassist by default, because no one else wanted the job.
In 1974, they self-produced thier first album, titled 'Rush'. John Rutsey left the band due to personal reasons, as has Lindsey. Neil Peart took over drums, became their lyricist, and the rest is music history.
After 30 years, more than 20 albums, and almost endless touring, Rush has achieved album slaes surpassed by only a handful. They have never been a commercial band, but their fans remain, decade after decade, into the new millenium.
Alex Lifeson
Real Name; Alex Zivojinovich, born Aug. 27, 1953 in Fernie, British Columbia
Job with Rush: Guitarist, writer-of-music, and only true original member
Hobbies: Cooking, solo band Victor, licensed pilot
Family: married to Charlene; two sons.
Alex has a mildly warped sense of humor, evident in his tourbook notes and in live shows. Heck, he invited 25,000 people in Anaheim over to his house for chips and beer!
Geddy Lee
Real Name: Gary Lee Weinrib, born July 29, 1953 in Toronto, Ontario
Job with Rush: Vocalist, bassist, keyboads, writer-of-music
Hobbies: Baseball, tennis, hockey, long-distance running. Oh, did I mention baseball? I've seen pics of his collection of baseball stuff.....Wow.
Family: Married to Nancy; son Julian (of Distant Early Warning video), and newest member, Kylie. (I'm not certain this is her correct name, I've seen others listed.)
"Geddy" is a heavily-accented pronounciation of "Gary", and depending on which version of his bio you are reading, it was his mother or grandmother that said it.
Neil Peart
Pronounced like 'ear'
Born: in Toronto, Ontario, Sept. 12, 1952.
Jobs with Rush: Percussion (drums, chimes, gongs, bells, ect.), lyricist.
Hobbies: Bike tours of exotic locales - has written several books and magazine articles about this also. Reading.
