I arrived at the Pier three hours before the concert started and was second in line. Steve joined me soon after. We were there in time to listen to the soundcheck and peek over the fence to watch. I had made a new shirt, special for the Seattle concert, so we chatted with a lot of people in line about the shirts.
Approximately 15 minutes before the gates were opened, I had decided to poke my head through an opening in the gate ... great timing ... John Regan was walking by! He looked over at me and we waved at each other (what a great guy!). Next thing I know, Steve and I hear someone behind us say, "Hey, nice shirts!" We turn around and it's John and Mark (Peter's guitar tech) standing on the sidewalk along the street. They had walked outside the venue and out to the entrance gates. I was shocked to see them out there and really shocked that they were trying to get my attention. I immediately asked John if Peter received his signed shirt from all of us in the fanclub. He didn't know, but loved the shirt I had on and Steve's hat. They kept saying "Peter must see these shirts and hat." (Steve had on the FRAMPTON FLOAT shirt I had made for the Detroit picnic). Steve then took his hat off and gave it to John. John was so pleased. It's the hat Steve has on in the photo that Tyna put on her Framptroit webpage.
Anyway, Mark then tells us to look for him once we get inside and he'll get us backstage guest passes. They leave and the next thing we know John is back again and this time he brought Bob Mayo with him to check out the shirts! WOW! Now I'm really floating, more like in a daze. They shake our hands and ask us our names. John asked if he could pay me to make him a sweatshirt just like my t-shirt for himself. I laughed and told him "Trust me, this one's on me!" He asked for my business card, we all talked for about 5 minutes and they went back inside.
The gates finally opened up and we get front row, my seat was directly in front of Peter's mic. A security lady brought us our passes ... they looked just like the ones we all received in Detroit except they were black and said "Guest" instead of "Meet & Greet". At one point Mark came out on stage to the edge and asked me if we received our passes yet, I held them up and he smiled back. While waiting for things to get started we had the pleasure of meeting Jim, one of Peter's sound tech's (he works mostly with the drums). He introduced himself and was inquiring about getting shirts made for the crew.
Finally Eric and the boys started up and, of course, we too had our share of freaks! A real nut went up front and displayed her dance moves and entertained the band with her version of how to seduce a candy sucker! The boys loved it and the crowd got a good laugh until security removed her. Eric and the boys sounded GREAT and Seattle loved them!
Now it was time for Peter. It was nice to see Peter and the boys much more relaxed here than in Detroit. John and Bob spotted Steve and me right away and acknowledged us. By the time they hit the third song, everyone from the back had made their way to the front and it looked like the 70's all over again. Peter did his normal line up and rocked the Pier!
Steve and I were escorted backstage to the band's lounge room. Peter was busy, of course, with the venue people. Bob, John and Chad were all kicking back when we arrived. They offered us food and drinks, which we, of course, accepted. We spent almost an hour with the boys while Peter finished up business. We felt pretty special by now because no one else was allowed in except a couple of John's friends. It was so cool being allowed to spend that much personal time with the guys, watching everything go on and hearing some cool inside info that we probably shouldn't have heard. We met several different people while hanging out and really liked Peter's tour bus driver (nice guy).
I had brought the FRAMPTROIT 1999 shirt backstage (the one I wore in Detroit to the soundcheck, just like Peter's). Bob, John and Chad all signed it along with Steve's FRAMPTON FLOAT shirt that he was wearing.
I did want to tell you one thing John mentioned to us that I thought was so sweet. John said that he was very touched by the large white rose that Betty Ann had given to him in Detroit and that no one had ever done anything like that for him before. I thought you might enjoy knowing how special you made him feel. John also mentioned that he would really like to get on the computer and start reading the message board. We quickly warned him to be prepared, especially about Tyna and Roseanne (just kidding you two!).
Peter finally finished with business and grabbed a glass of wine and John introduced us. Peter loved the shirts, I told him about his shirt, he said he hadn't seen it yet. We chatted for about 10 minutes and he mentioned that they were working on changing his website and that he would be interested in using my stuff to sell on it. Peter asked for info on how to contact me and I gave him more business cards. Peter then signed both of our ticket stubs and the two shirts. By now, Peter and the boys were being rushed to head for the hotel. Steve and I were alone in the dressing room, so we gathered up our stuff and found our way back to the front of the stage. The place was cleared out and as we walked in front of the stage, the crew yelled "see you guys in Idaho!" How funny! We were starting to feel like a couple of groupies. As we left the venue, we walked by a huge group of people all waiting for Peter to come out. They were going to wait a long time because Peter and the boys had loaded up in a vehicle with tinted windows and had left already. Steve and I watched them get in while we were leaving the dressing room.
While backstage, we also met Chuck, Peter's tour manager. He's the gentleman in the vest that brought us all our Meet & Greet passes in Detroit. Anway, he invited us to come backstage to the Sandpoint concert because cameras were not allowed in the Seattle venue. So we weren't able to get any photos with Peter backstage. We were taking Steve's daughter to the Sandpoint concert for her birthday and Chuck said we could get a family portrait with Peter!
So, the rain held out and what a beautiful night it was in Seattle. I don't remember getting much sleep that night!
When we got inside we put our blanket out and settled in. We knew that Peter hadn't arrived yet because Chuck had told us in Seattle that this concert was going to be what they call a "Drive By", meaning no soundcheck and they leave right after they finish. Just a quickie and on to the next.
Steve met up with Eric and the boys. Steve ended up getting to know Mason very well in Sandpoint and spent most of the time with him before and after the concert.
Peter and the boys finally showed up right before Eric's band was to go on. Not long after Peter arrived I caught John Regan walking across the venue. I jumped up to chat with him, gave him a hug and he started asking me questions about the shirts I would be doing for them. He mentioned that he and Peter had come up with an idea for a series type shirt to produce and sell on the website. (At this time I don't really want to mention what they had in mind in case they don't want it revealed until the new website comes out.)
Chuck then came out and told us to be ready in 15 minutes and that he would escort us backstage to visit with Peter again and get some pictures. Eric and the boys were already on stage and just about finished with their set by this time. Steve was feeling pretty cool by now because Mason kept acknowledging Steve and pointing at him during the whole concert and everyone would turn and look to see who Mason was pointing at. At one point during one of their songs they say the word "FRIENDS" and Mason turns right to Steve and points at him with a great big smile! While we were standing next to the stage waiting to be taken back, Eric and the boys finished, all four of them walked right over to us and started talking to Steve. Steve introduced his daughter to the guys and they all signed her and Steve's CDs. Steve also took pictures of Eric with Nichol. Eric was so sweet, he gave Nichol a birthday kiss and Steve got a picture of it.
Then it was time to see Peter again. We got backstage and he was chatting with some local folks. We knew that Peter didn't have much time because he had to go onstage in a few moments, so we quickly introduced Nichol and her stepsister to Peter. Peter was so kind to take a moment and ask Nichol how long she had her drivers license and if she had a car yet. Steve and Peter talked for a few minutes about cars and insurance for young teens then it was time for autographs and pictures. Peter signed our Sandpoint ticket stubs and then signed my "I'm In You" picture disc. He signed it "To Anne, My Thanks, Peter Frampton". Steve then took a picture of Peter, the girls and myself and then a picture of just me and Peter.
Just before Peter and the boys were to begin, we spotted John and Bob onstage. We got Bob's attention, he came off stage and greeted us near the stage. He shook our hands and Steve gave him a hat that I had made since John had gotten one and we all chatted for a few minutes. Bob said some really nice things about my work and then invited us backstage after the concert to hang out with them again. (What a wonderful, sweet guy!) He jumped back onstage and put Steve's hat on backwards to show it off to John. (What a tease!)
The concert was incredible and, again, the boys were having a great time, so relaxed and having fun with the crowd. John's still holding up the applause sign when he's introduced! I've got to say that Bobby has an incredible voice, I wish we could get to hear him sing more.
When the concert was over we caught Bobby (sorry, I just like to call him Bobby, it's more fitting for me) with the hat on that we had just given him. I guess he really did like it! We tried to get back to visit with everyone, but Rug (the production manager for the Sandpoint venue) told us that the guys were going to leave really soon and they wouldn't have time for us.
I just want to thank Peter and the boys for being so gracious to us during both of the concerts and allowing a dream come true for me. Eric and the boys were just as wonderful and Steve made some new friends!
One week after the Sandpoint concert, Peter Emailed me to let me know that his Executive Assistant would be contacting me in reference to the shirts. I received an Email from Lisa the following Monday and then a phone call from her on Tuesday. She was meeting with Peter that day and would call me after their meeting. Peter asked that I send him my shirts. He wanted to look at all of them again to decide what they wanted to do with the merchandise on his new website.
I recently received my shirts back with a note from Lisa stating that they have not yet decided if they want to sell Embroidered shirts on Peter's new website.
While backstage at the Sandpoint concert, Peter signed my picture disk: Peter signed our tickets in Seattle! He also signed our tickets backstage before the show in Sandpoint. Eric and the boys signed our CD for us as well. And Eric signed a CD especially for Nichol for her birthday! Share your thoughts!
