I live in an area where we occasionally get snow during the winter. As a child, I looked forward to snow because it meant I could go to a nearby hill and go sledding. The hill is one of my favorite childhood memories. I can't remember a time that I went that doesn't bring a smile to my face. The hill was divided like this: one side had a gradual slope and the other had a steep slope. Of course, everyone went down the steepest part they could find. It was the most fun. Why am I writing about some fucking hill, you ask? Because as I drove past recently, I noticed that they had fenced off the top of the hill so that children could no longer sled down the steep side. Needless to say, I'm fucking pissed. The hill lies on city property, so they're concerned that some kid is going to fall of his or her sled and break an arm, and then sue the city for making the sledding hill too dangerous. What kind of asshole parent would do that? You'd have to have rocks in your head to think that. Kids are kids. It fucking happens. The same age kid can go to a mountain, strap a couple of boards to his feet, and ski down the fucking mountain. But it's too dangerous to sled down a hill that isn't more than a hundred feet tall? You have to be joking. The hill is free. Skiing isn't. I know plenty of people that ski, and many of them have hurt themselves, many more people than I can remember ever hurting themselves sledding when we were kids. Do you blame the mountain when you fall down when you're skiing? No, only a moron would blame something other than their own clumsiness or underestimation of their skiing skills. It's ridiculous. Let kids be kids. Sometimes they get hurt. It fucking happens. Get over it.
